Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsContrary to most CVT programming, the Subaru makes slightly quicker times in "M" than in "D." If left in "D" the tach lazily gets up to 5,500 rpm at 65 mph. On the other hand, in "M" it goes all the way to redline by 40-ish then "shifts" back and forth between 6,500 and 5,500. Adequate power, smoothly delivered.
Braking ratingGood
Braking commentsMedium-soft pedal and noisy tires but good fade resistance. Straight stops with some dive and respectable stopping distances.
Handling ratingAverage
Handling commentsSkid pad: Yeow, do these tires scream! Lots and lots of roll -- so much that I believe I was hearing the tires rub against the struts up front. Steering gave me some info, but the tires couldn't shut up about something. Slalom: Tendency to build oversteer with each successive transition, and the car doesn't have the hp or smart AWD system to use it as an advantage. This is also compounded by the all-season tires that let go early. Quick turn-in, but otherwise slow response.
