I am having a problem I think. It feels like when my transmission goes into gear it feels like it is slipping. Is this a problem. I don't remember it doing this in the past. I have about 75,000 miles on it. Someone suggested that I pour two cans of carbueter fluid in it. Is this safe. Could it be a sensor?
Hi I'm having the same problem, but continues until 45mph or 50mh then start again when driving at 60mph, so I haven't go above that since long, long time ago. How did you fix the problem or what is it? Thank you for your time. Jeff.
I'm in the process of replacing the TPS sensor, however, I have read in several places online that I must calibrate the TPS once its replaced. I have a digital multimeter, however, I'm not really sure how to calibrate the TPS. The TPS looks as a plug and play type of sensor, but it does have a spring in the back that looks as it can be rotated for adjustment, Is ... Read More

The only change is a reduced color selection? Still underpowered. Still a plastic-encased mall cruiser. Still too 2001. Too bad Mitsubishi is letting one of the toughest real SUVs around simply die from neglect. Dont try to avoid tax, CA will easily catch you unless you have something like 7500miles on the car it is considered new and CA will tax you. You can legally buy in OR and pay CA "use tax" I think it is called but check with your DMV for sure. The bottom line is you wont be able to avoid taxes. (Why do you think everyone is moving up here ... Read More
Try Puente Hills Mitsubishi. As I've mentioned before, they have about 20-30 Montys, both XLS and LTD. Ask for Omar at (626) 964-5111 and tell him Jimmy referred you. I purchased a silver LTD about 3 weeks from him. He was the first I went to, and after about 2 weeks searching both the internet and other dealerships, his offer was still the best. Give him a price you are willing ... Read More
That's hard to believe the dealer reneged with the whole market so soft now. I would not want to do business with that kind of two faced dealer. Please publish the dealer and sales manager's name, we might all like to send him a little love note! Good luck! I bought my 2001 Monte Ltd.s in Feb. for $34,000. + T/Lic @ 4.9% rate, w/rear air, factory hitch and front bug ... Read More
Agree that the Monte, with its V-6,is not in the same class as the Landcruiser. The Monte is kind of a 'tweener between mid sized and full sized SUV's, although practically speaking, it is a mid-sized SUV, with many of the advantages of a full size (towing being the one glaring exception). With regard to why you see more LC's than Monte's on the road, remember that for 2001 Montero only ... Read More
I just got a price quote for a Montero Limited 2001 from a dealership in a suburb in Chicago. They quoted me $34300 which includes rear air, destination charge and ad fee. Is it a good price? Is Montero reliable? I heard good things and bad things about Mitsubishi. Do they honor the warranty usually. Is it they don't want to fix problems if it is under warranty? Last question. I ... I don't see very many people in my area with the new 2001 Montero. I didn't think I would enjoy being different, but I do. We just got back from a snowskiing trip in Colorado. We were shocked to see so many Monteros in the Hertz parking lot at the airport in Denver. When our "full size" rental car turned out to be too small for four occupants and luggage, my ... Read More
I just bought 2001 Montero xls. Just liked the car. Salesman (Poor knowledge)did not explain difference between the xls and ltd, per him oh some extra gauges, & compass etc. We falled for it saving couple thousand. We still needed leather interior, so the dealer said they will convert with additonal cost. The purchase price came out $32,800. After looking the gage now really missing should have bought ltd for 1200 ... Read More
Heard on the o'dark thirty news this morning that Misubishi had announced another $several million recall, but that it affected mostly vehicles sold in countries other than U.S. Couldn't wait for "more details later in the broadcast", Anybody know anything more? PHOnos, 2001 White/Silver full size Montero w/ rear A/C; build date July; $34,500 + TTL, August, 2000, Orange County, CA.
I too, am almost ready to buy a Montero Limited. I appreciate all the info on this forum. I'm just wondering about a few things. I had also been considering an Acura MDX but I just don't know if the car is tough enough for bumps and ruts that we tend to find. I also found the seats a little stiff . I also am leary of the estimated high gas ... Read More
Hi Montero Owners - I own a Montero Sport (1999) and wish I had waited for the new full size to debut for I am finding the Sport smaller than I would like. In Scarborough Maine, the Mitsubishi dealer wants MSRP (36717) for a Limited with no real effort to accept less. Where are you folks finding the Limited (w/rear air) for 34500? It appears I'll be ready for a serious ... Read More
i looked at the 2001 montero,it has seats for 7, i think this site really supports this car maker, you should see what the jeep grand cherokkee site says about the jeep, they all seem lke lemons, but sounds like folks have had good luck with the mitsubishi. i really liked this car, tho a bit bigger than i may need.anyone have any other advice to offer?
Why reliability is the concern? Read all the posts that have misubishi in it and you will not find problems. Actiually, there are some, but it is not as global as other makes. Mitsubishi hid some recall info, but it was more of the "image" thing and the most outraged was the government, not the customers. I did my homework too, as in post #59, Lexus RX300 was my first choice, ... Read More
Edmund's road test of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XS is now available. Here's the direct link to First Drive: 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XS, by Ed Hellwig. What do you think? Happy Motoring. ;-) Pocahontas, Edmunds.com/Roving Host
Go to the FullSized Montero conference. There are people who took theirs 2001 off road. New Montero has a monoque body which (according to the Mitsubishi) has a better performance than the old frame.
I'm a big fan of the new Montero (off-road ability, unique styling, etc.), but the new crash test data kind of alarms me. The Insurance Institute gives it a "POOR" rating stating: "Another poor performer is the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero with about $9000 damage in the Institutes's 5mph bumper test. Once again, the rear tailgate and glass were crushed in the rear-into-pole impact by the spare tire mounted on the back. ... Read More
