Hi Dear, Did you find any solution for this problem...? I have the same issue with my 1998 Mitsubishi Montero. Please let me know. Thank you
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero. The back cargo door won't open. I can't find any access to the latching mechanism while the door is closed. I'm pretty sure the thing just needs lubed but I can't access it to lube it. Would any one know how I can get in and lube that latch so it will open while the door is stuck shut?
2000 Mitsubishi Montero AC compressor turns off when fan is set to 4. I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero with a strange problem. The AC compressor works when the cabin fan is set to 1,2 or 3 but the fan won't work. I can tell the compressor is on because cold air seeps out. When I turn the fan to setting 4 it starts blowing but the compressor turns off. Click ... Read More

I've been have the following problem, think its a transmission & sensor problem. After have the transmission flush and new (only Mitsubishi's ATF) fluids added, the car still will not shift from 2nd and 3rd gears until it's warmed up (about 10 to 15 mins and about 6 miles staight driving). Once it shifts, it will start shifting after that on its own. AutoZone did an analysis and it came back ... Read More
Two questions - we bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport a couple of months ago and so far love it. Question 1 - The owners manual was not in the glove box and we need an owners manual, but the dealership wants to charge us $49.00 Any suggestions?? Questions 2 - I had to disconnect the battery and clean the posts, as the vehicle wouldn't start. When I got it reconnected, ... Read More
I have a 2000 mitsubishi montero sport. I have the compass and temperature reading on the rear view mirror. The compass is working correctly, but the outside temperature gauge is flashing OC. Does anyone know how to reset this to make it work correctly?.
Unless you guys are talking about Drew's post back in Nov. comparing the Murano & Montero, try this blast from the past: 2000 Honda Passport, Toyota 4Runner or Mitsubishi Montero Sport, which is the best buy? Ok, it's the Sport and not the "pure" Monty, but I'm still lost about the Murano talk :-) Steve, Host
Post 2175: I have no idea what is your point. I ALREADY admitted that the G500 is a more capable off-roader due to it's locking diffs. What is your point??? Please RE-read my earlier post. Post 2176: Ok, so what?? Motortrend picked Acura MDX the year before?? Does that mean it is better than everything else?? So, are you saying the new Volvo is better than Range Rover?? Interestingly, it should ... Read More
I will get the article but they said something like the 4runner came to an imediate bog with the system on and they had to turn it off. The same thing happened in a Sequoia test going through a sandy river crossing where it bogged down. I dont rememeber if the reviewer got stuck but he was the one who wanted it "cut" with wire clippers by the end of the ... Read More
I lease both a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero and a 2001 4Runner. I would go with a 4Runner; wins hands down. You can still get a great deal on a 2002 models since the 2003 are out now. Don't go with a Montero. I can't wait for my lease to be over in 2004 so I can get myself a used 2002 4Runner. The best SUV out there.
Here is an Australian review of the 2000 Pajero which is identical to the 2001 Montero except they can get some options we dont have. I like reviews from Countries that have real world experience with 4wd. Notice at the end they mention that the Montero is in the running for top spot for family 4wd wagon. http://www.4wdonline.com/Mitsubishi/Pajero/200009.html
Mikestl: Agree with Phonos. My dad had a terrible time with his GJC and the lemon law issues related to the 99 and 00 problems there. They were smart and changed the vehicle this year. I have read numerous accounts about toyota providing poor service and they have good quality vehicles across most of the vehicles they sell. I have had some issues with my local service person who I feel ... Read More
FWIW: Got the driver's side front finder plastic cladding sideswiped while my wife was putting the gas filling nozzel back on the pump. Damage was minimal, just about 12-16 inches of paint and the plastic slightly gouged. I thought a little rubbing with sand paper and crocus cloth and some paint was all it needed. But, no. The body shop (which by the way, does excellent work and is used by ... Read More
No, I'm afraid my statement was accurate. As the link says, Consumer Reports runs SUV's through their emergency avoidance tests (two of them, actually). As they say, the tests are not specifically meant to detect rollover but they regard any vehicle tipping as a serious indicator of a greater propensity to rollover given the condition. They've run the short course test (which is where they failed the Montero) for over 13 ... Read More
My mom has 2000 montero sport and she drives hers like a sports car and I have never been worried that the montero would roll over. I know she has montero sport and not big the montero, but my point is mitsubishi makes good suvs and cars that are safe. The reason why CR is coming after mitsubisi is that it is smaller company than ford or nissan. If you look ... Read More
They have to make statements like this since it wasn't tested. But it makes as much since as stating the first one tested was red, the second silver. As if color would make a difference? What I cannot understand is how Mitsubishi would even market this vehicle in this country, knowing that CU might perform this test. Something doesn't seem right here. The test has been around for a long time, ... Read More
After I read what I posted above, I can see I didn't make the situation exactly clear. We went with the Mitsubishi dealer financing of 4.9% for 48 month on the Montero but declined the extended warrenty. We then purchased, later in the week, the extended warrenty through the credit union. Haven't had one normal warrenty claim on it in 16,000 miles. Haven't had it in for anything except normal service ... Read More
Manik.com is where you want to go for manly guards. My local speed shop can get them in 1-2 days. The front guard is available in black or chrome and covers the front grill and headlights. The rear has taillight covers but no full rear brush guard. Side rails, I believe are also available. The black guards are much cheaper than the chrome. I got these black ones on my silver ... This is the same basket offered for a substantially higher price at the Mitsubishi dealership. I plan ... Read More
August 14, 2000 article from AutoWeb.com.au Posted for informational purposes only. "'In its first full month since the launch of the all-new NM series, Mitsubishi's Pajero has blitzed its opposition. Well, I finally broke down and bought a new Montero Ltd w/ Rear AC on Friday (Black/Sudan Beige). I used the Edmunds forums and other info a great deal in both my decision making process as well as in determining my price negotiating strategy, so I thought I would post the results... Using dealer invoice data from Edmunds and other Internet sources, I calculated a range of percent-over-invoice values. In addition, ... Read More
Why reliability is the concern? Read all the posts that have misubishi in it and you will not find problems. Actiually, there are some, but it is not as global as other makes. Mitsubishi hid some recall info, but it was more of the "image" thing and the most outraged was the government, not the customers. I did my homework too, as in post #59, Lexus RX300 was my first choice, ... Read More
