2005 MGM - Where's the Coolant!!

Wanted to change coolant on my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. Cooling system capacity is supposed to be 13.6 quarts. System was full up to the line with the old coolant. Drained old coolant into clean container. It ran out smooth and fast . . very little debris. Everything looked good. But after I drained out six quarts of coolant there was no more. What happened to the other six+ quarts of ... Read More

  • Grand Marquis with Ford Emblem on the steering wheel

    Written by: mark_farm on Jan 4, 2012 12:32:59 PM

Hi. I have a Mercury Grand Marquis GS 2005 with optionals, like leather wrapped steering wheel, etc. It's a Mercury with clean CarFax history and only 37k. No accidents and air bag never deployed. However it does show a Ford emblem in the center of the steering wheel. I was wondering if an aftermarket unit was installed at the dealer or if Ford made some Grand Marquis with the Ford logo ... Read More

I had a really nice 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS back in the day. It was white with a dark blue leather interior and dark blue vinyl "landau roof." It also sported the turbine alloy wheels and nice wide whitewall tires. I called it "the poor man's Town Car." I think it was a much nicer car than my current 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS which I consider nothing more than ... Read More

Sounds like one of two things. Either a COP (coil on plug), or a fuel or head temp. sensor. When the car stalls do you have to let it sit for a while (cool off time)? if so its probably the head temp. sensor. If not a dwnld of ecm will show a bad coil, or fuel temp. sensor. Auto zone will dwnld. for free. These sensors don`t always set off ... Read More

Without illuminating the CEL, but with 86k, it would not surprise me if it needed new plugs and wires.

The car has approximately 86,200 miles on it. The fuel filter was changed back on July 31 as far as I can recall.

I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis that starts with a fast idle and then settles to a rough idle after 30 seconds and then smooths out after the engine warms up. Still, it isn't very smooth when the car is stopped in traffic. Occassionally, the car will stall out when stopped at a traffic light for an extended period. There are no check engine lights on the instrument panel. I ... Read More

I wholeheartedly agree. Ford's making a mistake killing off the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car. I also agree that they're still really nice cars; let's just say that they're behind the PAZAAZ curve. Ford owns the police cruiser market, the limo/livery market, the full size GSA/fleet/rental market, and the 65+ geriatric/55+ near-geriatric (of which I'm a member) market. Who in their right minds would abandon all that? The Panther ... Read More

That exact color was offered in 2005 on the Town Car and the LS. I own a black '05 Lincoln Town Car Signature L, and when I was shopping for my car, I considered Norsea Blue. It was a nice color, but I chose black because it was a more formal color, and I wanted formal elegance. Norsea Blue is not purplish at all, and is no where close to sky ... Read More

I can't address the 2003 cars because I never have driven one. But I do own a 2005 MGM LS with south of 13,000 miles on the clock. It has the Michelin tires. The car rides like a truck but it corners like a sports car. In addition to my MGM I own three British classic sports cars, all now antiques, as well as a Ford F350 mason dump with the ... Read More

I have a similar problem on my 2003 Crown Vic and 2004 Mercury Monterey minivan. I feel reasonably certain it is the Goodyear tires I have on them. On both vehicles, the tires need rebalancing after about 3000 miles. Always, the balancing weight position has shifted. The LM dealer eventually decided that one of the tires on the Monterey was bad and after replacement, found a very noticeable improvement but at ... Read More

I'm new to Mercury and new to this forum. Just bought a Grand Marquis LS. Always have owned GM autos (e.g., Buick) in the past. But GM has all but abandoned RWD so I abandoned them. Did not want to buy a foreign car. Made the exception for Canada. The car is used. It is a gold ash 2005 with under 12.5K miles. Paid $14.7K. Car has Michelins, leather, standard instruments ... I've learned the life of the little power window motors can be extended by closing the doors gently. The insecure "macho men" non verbally assert their "masculinity" by slaming car doors, talking loud, & insist on riding in the right front. However, when I have to put up with these types they are reminded to close the door gently and the Right front seat is reserved for my wife! :D

I have a 94 GM with 203k miles. Just had the third power window fixed. One left to go. I'm just waiting for it to fail, too. Not a cheap fix. This last one -- motor and regulator -- cost me $429. The other two were just regulator failures, they were a lot cheaper. I sure hope all the windows keep working until I decide to get rid of the car. ... Read More

Indeed, there are some insulation differences and such, but it is hard to justify forking out the extra money just to get the Mercury name; nowadays, "Mercury" doesn't mean much. As an example, when i was shopping for my car, a dealer had a 2004 GM LS for $27.7k, all taxes in and everything (these are Canadian dollars, don't forget). I ended up getting my CV, with more options, for $24.1k, ... Read More

I've been reading Mercury's web site and Edmunds and both claim a $5000 cash rebate for the 2005 Grand Marquis. Although I'm seriously considering buying one, I'm yet to find any favorable reviews and recommendations. In 2000 I came close to getting one but I opted for a Sable S.W. Now the bug bit me again. I really like both the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis, but there is a $3000 ... Read More

why Ford Motor Co seems to put the Crown Vic behind the proverbial "8 Ball"? Let me explain...my local Mercury dealer quoted me $20,831 after $4500 in rebates ($3500 on the car and $1000 when using Ford Credit) on a 2005 Grand Marquis GS Convenience Package. This car has traction control and power adjustable pedals and stickers for $26,535. My Ford dealer has a 2004 Crown Victoria LX without traction control ... Read More
