Wow, you and I have had exactly opposite experiences with GM and Mazda. Back in the 90's, I owned two Buicks that pretty much disentegrated mechanically in the 50-60 K mile range and got traded immediately with expensive problems that I refused to pay for. I've also owned another 5 or 6 GM products over the last 50 years and never had one I would call a reliable vehicle and never ... Read More
My two-year old 2009 Mazda5 (Sport, MT) doesn't start this morning. After a Mazda dealer checked it, I was told the engine was flooded and the computer showed that "gas pedal depressed when starting". I know for sure that I didn't step on the gas pedal. So I checked the internet and found a lot of discussions about the flooding problem in RX-8, e.g., at http://www.rotaryinsider.com/faq-tac40/rx8-preventing-flooding-gap44.htm. According to it, if the ... Read More
Your steering problems sounds like it might have been related to the massive recall of Mazda5s due to power steering failure, but I think they only recalled 2007 to 2009 models. See the following article: http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/19/mazda-expands-recall-for-power-steeri- ng-problem-to-500000-cars/ However, I had suspension issues with my 2007 that were resolved with a Technical Service Bulletin that my dealership claimed did not apply to my model. If you look at the new Consumer Reports buying guide for 2011,it shows the same all black circle for 2009 Mazda 5 "suspension problems".I assume it will be the same for the 2010 in next years edition, after more miles are put on people's 2010 model. All the preliminary tests I have seen for the "new" 2012 Mazda 5 indicate no changes were made to the underpinnings,so I must assume the problem will ... 2009 Mazda's have new generation of old problems. The reply about the yellow shocks is a good solution option. There are not many options for solutions to Mazda5 problems. The problem with paying $60-$100 for a 4 wheel alignment is that the dealership can show you ... Read More
Yes, you're probably right that the dealer split the $1,750 engagement cash from Mazda with my wife and me. So, if you take the perspective that the invoice price, as a result, should be adjusted downward we paid over invoice as you indicated. In regards to the key, I informed Mazda about it. Here's their reply: Hello Ken, Thanks for contacting Mazda. I regretted to read that the actions of the ... Read More
While you were anywhere from $700 to $1000 below invoice on the price of the car itself, you have to remember that the dealer actually had $1,750 of engagement cash from Mazda he could use to discount the car if you arranged your own financing. It sounds like he basically split that with you, so you ended up anywhere from $750 to $1,050 OVER invoice after factoring in the $1,750. Agree ... Read More

Test drove the Mazda5 this weekend and loved it. I understand the '10 models have stability/traction however I am a firm believer that a well trained and attentive driver doesn't need it.
