    Undersized brake rotors and undersized transmissions do count in quality control, design, and reliability.     the ridgeline and I think pilot have a different tranny. And the ody switched over to that model trans in IIRC 2007? Still seemed to have TC issues, but the fatal issues of the earlier ones don't seem to be there anymore.

    FYI, the ridgeline, pilot, and odyssey all share the same engine & transmission setup. I would avoid all V6 Honda products until they figure this thing out. We had a '10 pilot with engine pinging problems also. Traded it for a 4cyl CRV they are supposed up be reliable. My neighbor has '05 Toyota sienna with 110k never had one problem with it.     The problem is if you're looking for great reliability in a minivan you won't find it. Even Toyota has issues with the Sienna (esp. the AWD model). The only thing that you can do is minimize the risk. For example, avoid the power sliding doors for all makes and models because nobody has got it right. Check the forums.     Absoultly not true! They don't ALL have major trnasmission problems. I will say that a lot of them did have trouble which is uncharastic for Honda but the majority of owners didn't excperience this. It has to be remembered that many Odysseys get subjected to extreme use.     1. 2X on 2000 Odyssey - 90k & 100k sold at 155k with clunking gears 2. 1X on 2003 Accord EXV6 - 58k sold at 65k 3. Currently having torque converter failure on 2006 Odyssey started around 55k miles. Personally, our family is finished with Honda V6 products. The 4-cylinder models like Civic, CRV, and 4-cyl Accords are very reliable. Our next van is Sienna...maybe mid-model change in 2013?

    My 2003 Odyssey tranny started to slip. Took it to a dealer and got a quote for over 5K. American Honda provided a "goodwill" help for about $1000. We eventually traded it in. I would be very careful buying any Honda big cars with automatic transmission. Smaller Honda cars seem to be doing fine. I still own a manual Civic. It has been doing fine.

    If you look at customers' reports [reliability dots] on Cconsumer Reports 2003-2006 and 2008-2010 had best reliability in transmissions for the Odyssey. 2007 is bad news. You need to read more on Edmunds.com & OdyClub on what members have to say. I trust Consumer Reports more than any other magazine because they purchase vehicles where the dealers do not know that they are Consumer Report people.

    Correction! The 2007+ Honda Odysseys got the newer 5 speed transmission that went into the Acura MDX 2003+, Acura TL 2004+, Pilot 2006+. The old 4 speed and old 5 speed had the engineering flaws. The newer 5 speed is showing excellent reliability.     You are absolutely correct. The 4 speed and old 5 speed transmissions had many problems. They were replaced with the new 5 speed in the 2007 TL, 2003 MDX, 2006 Pilot, and 2007 Odyssey.     5400.00 sounds very high for just a convertor! Just curious, how long do people expect a transmission is a mini van to last? 100,000 miles? 200,000 miles? Forever? After being in the automotive field my whole life, I just have to wonder just what people expect? Seriously, I'm just curious. Few cars have a rougher life than a minivan. Even a Honda will break given enough time, miles and abuse.
