Chevrolet Blazer Brake Problems

  • ABS

Written by: duntov on Mar 5, 2012 2:16:52 PM

The 1990-2001 S10 and Blazer ABS system is a poor design and the 1995 - 2001 ABS was improved over the 1989-1994 ABS system. With ABS brakes it is important to flush the brake fluid every 10,000 miles, including the ABS modulator. It takes special equipment and technical knowledge to flush the ABS modulator and unfortunately, most auto repair shops don't have the expertise to bleed the air out of the ... Read More

The one-piece rear crankshaft seal can be replaced with the engine in the car. The oil pan must be unbolted from the block and dropped down one or two inches, the starter, transmission, torque converter, and the flex plate (flywheel) must be removed so you can un-bolt the old seal and housing from the block so you can pull it off the cranksahft. . A new main seal and housing assembly ... Read More

1986 s10 blazer engine swap

  • 4.3L engines

Written by: duntov on Apr 15, 2010 2:51:58 PM

A 1987 - 1991 S10 Blazer will have a 4.3L engine with a one-piece rear seal and is designed for a roller tappet cam. If you rebuld the engine use the same crankshaft and rods that originally came in the engine. Those engines do not have a crank sensor and they can use the more common parts for a 350 Chevrolet V8 engine. Maximum over bore is .030" oversize (4.030" bore) ... Read More

I have a 1991 S10 Blazer 4WD, 4WAL ABS brakes. I have the "ABS Blues" and it will cost about $800 to replace the EHCU (electro-hydraulic control unit) and bleed the 4-WAL ABS brakes. ABS brakes are the most stupid and useless feature that the federall government has made the automakers put on their cars. However, my Blazer is 18 years and is in such good condition with pefect paint, body, ... Read More

Well, not an "overdrive bearing" per se, but there is a sun gear that will shut things down if it breaks. Did this come on suddenly, or were there earlier symptoms?

Forget the "buddy" and find a reputable garage to look at the vehicle. Might cost you $100 for their diagnostic services, but save you thousands in an unwarranted repair. There is no such thing as an "overdrive bearing" in an engine.

I took my Blazer to a buddy for him to look at and they told me it was the over drive bearing. I have never heard of an over drive bearing They told me that my whole engine had to be replaced and that just didn't sound right to me. Because Overdrive has everything to do with the transmission now if there is such thing as over drive bearing it would ... Read More

I can change a 1991 Blazer headlight blindfolded. They can b e replaced from the front just like all GM headlights have been replaced as far back at 1948. All you need is a wire coathanger with a little hook on the end, a long, thin, flat-blade screwdriver and a little stool to sit on. Reach in with the hooked-end coathanger to pull out the headlight spring and unhook it from ... Read More

Take it back to where it was checked last and tell them to take it out. Most automobile repair and service garages as well as the fast lube establishments are notorious about over tightening oil drain plugs and oil filters . One reason is that they do not want you to change the oil and filter youself. They want you to bring it back to them for that service. If that ... Read More

The price you were quoted is fair depending on what parts the mechanic uses. The OEM GM hub bearings w/ABS rings has a MSRP of $1084 a pair with a jobber price of $564 per pair. However, the you can get excellent quality aftermarket hub bearings w/ABS rings for $270 a pair from places like AutoZone. If you have been using metallic brake pads, the ABS rings may be clogged with ... Read More

Book says with parking brake on, loosen swivel nut on linkage, put shifter in N, go down to trans and find N for sure in the trans by pushing shift lever forward then back to second detent, tighten swivel nut, check to see if all OK. Hope that fixes.

Hi, My 4.3 liter 4wd automatic transmission has slipped its linkage. I re-adjusted it so it would lock in park. Afterwards it would not shift into drive and would start in reverse. I did it again and now the lever range is all drive and I cannot put it in park to remove the keys. No neutral or reverse. Have to start in drive. When I checked the linkage the dedent ... Read More

Hello Everyone! I just registered for this list. I have a 1991 S-10 Blazer with 190,000 miles on it. I have only 2 basic complaints about it -the paint was awful and lack of power (have to turn off the AC to pass anyone). It was garage kept for all but the last year. The paint started peeling off in sheets about 3 years ago. Until this year the only thing ... Read More
