ROCKLEIGH, New Jersey — The 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription, a new long-wheelbase version of the Volvo S60 midsize luxury sedan, will start at $39,695, including a $995 destination charge, when it goes on sale at Volvo dealerships in the U.S. this summer.
The base price is for the S60 T5 front-wheel-drive Drive-E Inscription.
The top-of-the-line 2016 Volvo S60 T5 all-wheel-drive Inscription starts at $41,195, including shipping.
The S60 Inscription will be built at Volvo's plant in Chengdu, China, and will be one of the first Chinese-built vehicles offered in the U.S.
Rear-seat passengers get an additional 2.9 inches of legroom in the S60 Inscription. Volvo said its customers have been asking for a stretched version of the S60.
Luxury details include walnut inlays in the cabin, along with interior accent lighting, a power rear sunshade and silk-finish metal trim.
Engine choices include a turbocharged T5 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged T5 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine. Both are linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The base 2016 Volvo S60 T5 front-wheel-drive Drive-E model starts at $34,945, including shipping, reflecting a $270 price increase over the 2015 S60.
The 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country, which adds 7.9 inches of ground clearance, starts at $44,405, including shipping.
Key competitors to the Volvo S60 include the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CTS.
Edmunds says: Volvo introduces U.S. buyers to the stretched S60 by keeping the base price just under the critical $40,000 mark, which should tick the right box for many consumers.
