2025 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Pricing
Underrated car - here's why
If you listen to car reviewers, they'll say to get the SE version because it's worth the extra price for the features you get. The reality is the S gives you everything you need: comfy seats, all the VW IQ Drive features and the same zippy engine and transmission. And it has the fun VW feature where you can lower all the windows with your remote before entering. We live in a value era now and this fits. Save your extra $$ for a new couch or something. I used Edmunds to make an informed choice. They also helped point me to dealers where I got an excellent price. Some are a bit wary of manufacturers operating in Mexico and lower build quality than say Japan, Germany or the US. VW has been in Puebla, Mexico since 1966 and this is where all Jettas for the US market are made. If anyone has Mexican manufacturing dialed in, it's them. The 8 speed automatic is nice and it's an Aisin unit, made by Toyota. I've driven many CVTs and this feels better. Acceleration is amazing and freeway entry is no longer a worry. In a nod to the past, my S still has a key, not push button start like the other models. You also need to press the brake to start. Some people dislike this but it's always been a habit of mine. The S also has a very simple head unit with few buttons and easy to use controls. The AC controls are all manual knobs which is nice. Some cars have everything in the head unit and you're in trouble if it ever breaks.

Good Vehicle
I purchased 2024 Jetta Sport with manual transmission. Overall it's a decent vehicle for a very reasonable price. The seats are comfortable enough except that passenger seat is positioned very low and cannot be raised. The car pillow fixes that. Front seats are heated and material is nice. Audio system is very basic and there is nothing to brag about. Digital instrument cluster in front of driver is very clear and provide plenty of information with different screen modes. Infotainment screen in the center is very small and I need to put my glasses on sometimes to see the detais. Visibility is very good on all sides. Manual gearbox is awesome. It is very easy to operate. The gears are tall and 6th gear keeps low RPM which translates into amazing fuel economy. I achieved 50 MPG on a highway easy. Engine is a different story. Power delivery is inadequate at low RPM and turbo lag is significant until 1500 RPM. Lower gear is needed sometimes whenever other cars I drove before did not require that. Using premium gas improves this a bit, but not much. I am also not a big fan of "rev-hang" when changing gears, but it is there. Trunk is a good size. No complaints there. If it wasn't for the engine, I would give it a perfect score. But, still you can't buy today anything as decent as Jetta for this price. I can recommend it.

Best Car I ever owned
I'm 60 years old, I've worked on cars all my adult life and I've owned many cars, Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Honda, Toyota and on and on, many. This 2023 Jetta would be the first VW I've ever own. I've only had it for a few months, 7 to be exact, and so far I LOVE this car. with todays high cost of gasoline 42 to 44 miles a gallon is a blessing. It handless just a good as a A4 or 3 series BMW. it be silly to compare it with a Audi S5, witch is what a drove before but then again a S5 is a $75.000 car. for $24.000 this car is a better choice, hands down. bottom line if your in the market for a reliable, fun, good looking and well priced car, this is definitely one to consider.

Nice Car
I have only had my 2023 VW Jetta Sport for a little over a month. So far, I have only one major complaint that I am deducting one star for. This car does not come with a spare tire!! I had to shell out an extra $300+ to get a compact spare, jack, and lug wrench. This, in my opinion, is a major mistake on the part of the manufacturer for not including one. The Jetta Sport is an overall nice vehicle. The ride is comfortable but, a little stiff. The suspension along with the limited slip differential lets the car corner nicely without any indication of wanting to overbalance. I haven't really pushed the car while cornering but have taken sharp turns at or a little above the posted speed limit without having to back off the accelerator as I would in other cars I have owned. There is some lag in acceleration from the turbo when starting from a dead stop. However, this is a non-issue unless you are trying for best time in the quarter mile. There is also plenty of power for passing on the highway. The driver assist features are nice, although I have not tried them all out yet. The lane assist is a nice feature. It only served to tell me I am almost always staying in my lane. An audible warning would be nice if you edge out of your lane as you have to constantly look at the dash to see the warning. There is also a little icon that pops up if you get too close the car in front of you so you know to back off. Hopefully, I will never have to find out if the Intelligent Crash Response System works. The issues that other reviewers have voiced complaints about (too much plastic in the cockpit and the center console rubbing your right leg) are negligible. The plastic is mainly on the door and center console and makes clean up of spills and dirt a lot easier that if they were covered in expensive leather. Overall a nice riding car with plenty of room, a large trunk, and a body that does not look like every other car on the road. Oh yeah, I am averaging 39 mpg!

MY VW, "Looks like your Audi " LOL
This is my first VW Product and i must say the overall Value is quite impressive. Priced in the mid to low 20,000 range, the sport version is a value package you should consider before stepping our to the SE and SEl. However, i was on a budget and it works for me. go. If you're looking for a refined look without lots of flash, the sport pkg offers very nice features and the ride is European engineered. Fuel consumption is exceptional. And the Sport trim is nice looking and offers everything you need in a car. Overall, the VW Sport Jetta 2024 is more expensive looking that the actual cost would imply. If you like the Audi 4 , you'll like the VW Sport Jetta in 2024. I was at a traffic light parallel to The Audi yesterday both cars in white. aside from the emblems on the vehicles, you couldn't tell the difference. I proudly joked with the other owner! Saying, "MY VW Looks Like Your Audi!... LOL BTW Jack Daniels is very Nice to do Business with...

Exceeded Expectations!
I ended up getting a 2024 VW Jetta SE and could not be happier. It is a great car to drive. Very smooth, has good pick up, and an overall perfect ride. The standard features on the SE compared to other cars, like the Honda Civic Sport, are much better in my opinion. It has a stylish, yet modest look. For the price point and class of the vehicle, it is very fun to drive. Bonus points as well for it being quieter than other cars in its class. With the incredible fuel economy and standard tech features, I really believe the SE is the best compact sedan on the market. Love my Jetta!

GREAT VALUE- SAVE THOUSANDS OVER HONDA
Let me preface that I have owned many vehicles with many different domestic and foreign manufacturers and I find the Jetta a good value. VW hasn't had the best historical quality ranking reviews online, however their better than industry warranty for 2019. It's the only car that the more I drive it, the better the gas mileage I get... over 40-45 mph... a great 1st car for my son. We purchased him in 2019 a new R line. He still drives it with no manufacturer issues other than a chip needing to be replaced. I can say we are satisfied 6 years later & we bought a new 2024 SE for my second son. I offered to swap the 2024 for the 2019 with my first son so he could have the newer car, and he declined. He loves his 2019. So now we have 2 in the family and I'll most likely purchase a 3rd for myself later in the year. Love the sunroof and pleather seats are easy to clean. Local dealer service has been great. Includes 2 years service free of charge. Wish the lower trims had heated steering wheel and rear seats. A little more pep would be nice but it's a give and take, and I prefer the better gas mileage. Having owned a Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, GMC, BMW, etc., in my opinion I don't think this car is lesser a value that other brands and I don't think it's worth paying $2-3000 more to buy a Toyota or Honda. I've never had the experience where I got more money for a trade because it was a Honda or Toyota. The way I see it, if later down the line I have to spend $2-3000 on a repair, I'll call it even, and if I don't, great! I'm ahead. Plus they've been making this body style for a while so the kinks should be worked out. Just my two cents.

Suspiciously good mpg
I love this car. Can get it up to 50mpg on the highway with the ac running. The lane keeping assist and acc are handy on long highway trips. The XDS from the gti is fun on the sport. The interior is clean, sharp, driver focused and you can get it with a manual! My few dislikes are no auto ac, and the suspension is a bit rough off-road.

VW Jetta, Lots of Car In A Small Package
There is virtually no road noise when driving, the gas mileage is great (I am getting over 600 miles to a tank of gas and the car doesn't even have 2000 miles on it yet). It looks like it spent last night on the showroom floor! The feel of driving and riding as a passenger is solid and handling is a dream. For a small car, it's a got great big personality!

Even Better than an Accord
This car holds the road, has pep and goes over bumps very smoothly. Different drive modes are available on the SEL.
Manual Rev Hang
2024 Jetta S 6 speed manual has nice clutch and decent gear box. I will average over 40 mpg and satisfied with the vehicle for the price point. The main issue is pronounced rev hang at all rpm's. I'm not sure if this is programed into the throttle for the 8 speed auto but it's a mess while going up through the gears. Ironically it doesn't hang on the way down - heel and toe somewhat possible with the pedal placement. I expected some turbo lag and it is slow to spool up. Overall a solid body with minimal wind noise - definitely not a sports tune on the handling.

Manufacturer does not honor warranty work
First off I like to say that I always like Volkswagen friends and family has them, but I never given the car as crappy as the one I bought from executive Volkswagen and New Haven, Connecticut. Since day one, I drove Off a lot with the vehicle, I noticed clunking coming from the front end. The transmission is very jerky And wants to shift down Shift. The alignment went off at least eight times. I’ve been to 3 different dealerships Also, also in communication with the manufacturer with my Concerns and complaints they all Gave it an alignment and did not replace one time bolts only. When I receive the alignment printouts back, they were still in the red. They cannot correct the alignment repair attempts were made, and they still will not refund my money back. These cars are riddled with issues Apple CarPlay continuously disconnects. Climate control only blows, extreme hot or extreme clot, but nothing in the middle. Driver seat is jiggly on the track and door does not close properly. The list goes on. But nobody wants to take responsibility. The dealership say my car is perfectly fine. I have friends and family, the same exact and there is nothing to compare My car is clearly Faulty and the manufacturer does not want to take responsibility. Fathers and sons Volkswagen and Springfield ma Volkswagen of North Hampton ma And especially executive Volkswagen these guys are all criminals. They do not provide any valuable information or answer questions regarding technical Range of the vehicle when they describe vehicle is fine. And when you say you wanna record their phone call, they suddenly stop talking . I think this company went downhill, including their dealerships. They do not correspond with dealerships to make them take responsibility for damages. They cost of vehicle or manufacturing issues. Constantly give me the runaround. I’m currently working with a consumer attorney multiple specialist looking at my vehicle and they still deny it . I’m not sure what to do. I need help and I’m making payments on this vehicle and it’s leaking oil as well and they do not take responsibility. I can’t stress enough.

Not Made for new England Weather
I purchased a brand new 2025 Jetta SEL in early October and traded the car after 3 months, at 2.5k on the Odometer. From the first day, the car started to have issues. The electronics did not work correctly due to freezing screens, pairing issues, and a broken seat memory function. Functions are embedded and hard to deal with. The sliders are useless in the cold. The interior body panels began separating. Due to poor insulation and poor-quality tires, the interior is extremely loud at highway speed. Once the weather gets below 40, The mileage drops dramatically. The entire interior begins rattling, especially the sunroof, glovebox, and any body panels snapped in place to the point of separating (driving normal paved roads). The car exterior has too many gaps, and you can see the rubber seals in every gap (which adds to the noise level). The interior of this car is louder than that of a Jeep Wrangler (in my opinion); it feels like you are driving a Tin can because of all the noise. The entire interior is made of different qualities and densities of plastic (the Beats sound system is not very good). The plastic door hinge in the rear caused the door to freeze a quarter of the way while trying to open (misaligned hinge and lack of grease). Besides the noise level and poor fit and finish, the leading kicker was the transmission buckling and jolting because of a sensor (required a multiday dealer visit). These are made in Mexico. I don't know about quality control protocols, but this Jetta is not made for New England weather. The dealer did fix the transmission issue, at least that's what they said, and the memory seats. They could not fix the rattling and the road/interior noise; according to them, it was expected, and they told me I should replace the new stock tires as they are considered garbage by them. After the transmission issue, I didn't feel the car was safe and reliable, so I traded it for a Toyota ( who offered a better trade-in value then than my VW Dealer). I should have kept my 2017 Passat. The Jetta was my last VW after being a VW driver for over 30+ years. The quality is just not there. I would be afraid to drive this on any trip. If you buy one, do not get a sunroof car. Maybe you will be luckier than I was. Forgot to add, the safety sensor for front end assists is located in the VW badge, as soon as there is snow or ice out and covering the badge , the system deactivates and the dash lights up with with all sorts of warning lights.

Enjoyable Commuter and w/6sp
Like many we've owned most brands, Honda, Toyota, and Mazda and lived with VW growing up. Our new 2024 Jetta Sport w/6sp manual is a good blend of comfort and fun. Our trim has all the necessary features like connected Android Auto and Carplay, along with a host of safety nannies features like blind spot monitor and adaptive cruise control. The 1.5t engine has plenty of pep and the 6sp really makes for a fun experience. The shifter is precise enough and the clutch is light with a grab point is easy to feel. Full LED light clusters on front and rear are nice touches. The interior materials are not going to compete with the soft materials of other popular brands. But having had both Toyota and Mazda, we don't miss the difference. Spots where you mostly contact like the steering wheel and arm rests have leatherette or cushion. The other areas are more for bragging rights when you boil it down. The rear seats have plenty of leg room and while all have cloth, they are comfortable and soft with no weird spots that are uncomfortable. Having a sedan reminds us of how practical they can be and easily fit the stuff we haul on the daily, like grocery or a Costco run. We have a CUV if we really need to haul something larger which is really seldom. I do most of the maintenance on our cars so I'm not too concerned about longevity. We're expecting 8-10 yrs from our Jetta like our other vehicles so resale isn't that much of a concern either. We managed a decent OTD price and with other cars with a manual gearbox either not available or with MSRP+mkt adjustment, we are really satisfied with our purchase. Every mfr has dealt with reliability concerns in recent years so we're approaching our ownership with slightly guarded optimism. Initially we couldn't be more satisfied and the mpg average borders on hybrid territory without paying the premium up front. A bit of nostalgia based but I intend to thoroughly enjoy this sensible commuter w/6sp manual gearbox and it has a manual keyed ignition. Buyers that want the latest tech aren't going to be satisfied with a model like this but to each their own...

Good Value as long as there are no tariffs
This is a very complete car for the price and I was surprised by all the equipment it came with. The SE offers leatherette perforated seats, LED exterior lighting, digital cockpit and AC controls wireless charges and appleplay, Chat gpt integration and a pleasant interior layout. It is not a breakthrough inside and out but a conservative and well executed refreshed design. Mine had a big sunroof a frameless homelink rearview mirror and all the goodies that this trim offers for a price around 25K. This car is not compact at all, very roomy and I believe is the largest in the segment almost into midsize territory.. Did not give the 5 stars due to the annoying turbo lag and the sensors giving false malfunctions from time to time. But let's not forget this is an economy car and it costs half the cost of the average new car transaction in the USA. So far I'm happy with it. Had a 2018 before this one with104K miles with no issues at all in all those years.

DO NOT BUY A 2025 VW JETTA
We purchased a brand-new 2025 VW Jetta with only 13 miles on it. After driving it for just 10 days, the transmission began to slip. We took the car to the dealership, and now, 43 days later, we still do not have it back. The salesperson failed to mention that these new Jettas come with a Hyundai transmission after knowing that we did not want anything to do with Hyundai. If we had known this, we would not have made the purchase. Volkswagen calls us every other day with the same update: "They are still working on the car." We considered opening a lemon law case, but according to the Georgia Attorney General's website, they cannot compel the manufacturer to buy back the car, which could take months. Most likely will have to get a lawyer involved.

Worst brand new car I ever own
The bad: I had the car less than a month and the SOS module already failed and this is something Volkswagen has had problems with for several years. I just don't understand if they can't get it working why not remove it. The passenger seatbelt warning keeps going off even though nobody is sitting there when it hits a bump, I was told that's normal and I told the dealer my other car doesn't do that and the service tech responded not all car are made the same. They did fix it with the SOS. Apparently some are made defective. When I received the car back, the second key stopped working. The IQ drive is the worst semi-autonomous I had used. It's straight out dangerous. During long drives the IQ drive starts to drip from the middle of the lane into the middle of two lane fighting the driver for control and yes it has tried to throw me onto oncoming traffic in a two lane highway. The only way to correct it is by turning it off and on or changing lane. It is also unable to stay in the lane on curves. I own a Chevy with super cruise and driven Tesla and Hyundai semi-autonomous with Chevy being the best, but Tesla and Hyundai was reasonably safe. VW service is horrible, same level as Chevy dealers. VW experience and good: I've own a 2008 VW Jetta in the past and it was a good car with good gas mileage and great on curves. This Jetta which is the reason I gave it two star is still great on gas surpassing it's EPA rating, the only car manufacturer I've ever known to pass EPA rating same as my old one. I have done the calculation on how much actual gas it uses, it even surpasses the dash MPG by 1 MPG. This is why I gave it 2 star. Dash says 42 MPG, but using calculation car actually is about 43 MPG with mostly freeway driving. Steering is worst that my 2008, but the same as any other car. So if you want that European car steering feel, skip Volkswagen it does not have it anymore. Will I buy it again: NO!!

Jetta flawed acceleration
2023 Jetta with manual transmission - ECU programming gives exaggerated acceleration delay to response from pedal input. During normal driving, after depressing the pedal and expecting the vehicle to accelerate accordingly, there is a delay of about two seconds before the vehicle suddenly and rapidly begins to accelerate. This presents two related safety concerns : The vehicle will not accelerate when needed to avoid an accident - the vehicle accelerates too rapidly after the delay, which has the potential to cause an accident if the vehicle cannot be slowed in time. Additionally, this repeated sudden and rapid acceleration and deceleration is likely to cause premature engine and drivetrain component wear/failure, as well as decrease fuel efficiency. Volkswagen told me the vehicle operates as intended. I'll pursue aftermarket ECU tuning software to correct this problem - which will cost several hundred dollars - and if that endeavor fails, I'll trade the Jetta for another Toyota. Either way, because of Volkswagen's response to my concern, this was the first and last Volkswagen I'll ever purchase.
I LOVE this car!!!
I shopped for months for a new car. My top priorities were safety, gas mileage and reliability. Hit the jackpot on all 3 with my new Jetta! I've had 2 VWs before and I've always loved them. I was picking between a K5 and the Jetta. I loved the technology with the K5 but when I opened the door on the Jetta I could tell the difference immediately in quality. The doors were heavier on Jetta and just overall a better made car. Great warranty, love how it handles, sunroof, heated seats, it's a great car! Only thing I would wish for is wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay.

2023 jetta
We bought 2 brand new 2023 Jettas. Both of them have mechanical/electrical issues that the dealership could not fix. I don't recommend buying any VW model because besides the horrible poor quality they now have you will also be dealing with bad customer service. So Hondas and Toyotas are the best for sure when it comes to quality and service.

Traded in at 30k
I bought a Jetta sport brand new in 2023, immediately had problems and decided to cut my loses at 30k miles. Brake pads had to be replaced at 6k miles (model issue not driver), had to refill coolant multiple times (dealer said no leak) and the rear brakes would scream when in reverse. The final straw was was when the ESP light came on at 30k miles and I was unable to accelerate. Sharp looking car, fun to drive and great on gas. I really did like this car but knew it would have a ton of future problems. I would have been better off buying a Honda or Toyota,

Good features, uncomfy ride
First purchased the vehicle on a Saturday, was ecstatic with the features the car had, sunroof, leather, acc. Yet I failed to realize just how the car was. After a couple days driving, I realized I got a headache from it, the brakes grab too much at the low end, even at the top they try braking too quick, the toque wants to drive if you were in a sports car. Overall I was not the only one sick from this car, maybe it’s the stock tires, or the ride height, or lack of tints. Just overall unpleasant to drive. Also a lackluster audio system with no Bluetooth CarPlay.

Quality has gone down on Jettas
This is my third Jetta, a 2023 Sport. Sadly, the rear pads and rotors need to be replaced after only 13,000 miles. Deal cost is over $600, and it's pretty ridiculous to be replacing brakes at almost every oil change. I drive really mellow to save gas, use the engine to downshift when possible, and have mainly freeway miles. I wrote VW and they said they won't cover it. There must have been issues with these because they issued an extended warranty on brake pads for 2 years or 24,000 miles, but I came in for service 2 months too late. I miss my 2016 Jetta that got better MPG, had no hesitation on acceleration like the 2023, and the brakes lasted about 40k miles. The steering was also more responsive than the new design in my opinion. The new design for the air vents / AC is also poorly placed. There's no way to get it positioned to a comfortable place, and definitely not if you're trying to adjust it for passengers as well. I'm glad I got a deal on mine, and it's still one of the best for the cost, but not after you factor in the crazy repair costs. I'll be doing my own repairs as much as I can after this, and probably buying aftermarket parts because the VW OEM have gone downhill in the last 10 years.
