Used 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Great Car
As an owner of the previous generation Jetta, I can say without a doubt this is the greatest exectution yet. I shopped the Audi A4 and BMW 325i and while no one can deny their great attributes, my Jetta GLI had something about it that I couldn't resist.
My 2.5 Volkswagen Jetta
Getting a Jetta was the best decision I have made when buying a car! I love this car. It suits me perfectly. I love the way it looks, the way it handles and how much more luxurious it is compared to previous models. The only thing is I wish it had a more ponies under the hood. For some reason my fiancee's Beetle, with the same i-5 engine and and only 150 lbs lighter, has more punch! Other then that, and a few warranty issues, it has been my most enjoyable car yet!

GLI = FUN
I picked up my GLI last week after seriously considering the Accord Coupe V6 6MT and the Altima SER 6-speed. The GLI blows both cars away when it comes to the "fun to drive" factor. Yes, it has its typical VW "quirks", a minor rattle in the dash that will get fixed at its 5,000 mile service, and the stereo system is not terrific, but you don't buy a GLI to listen to music. Punch the acclerator in 3rd gear, listen to the amazing 2.0T spool up and say goodbye to almost anyone in your way. Watch out for the flashing lights though...
Problems....
I am currently trying to sell my Jetta now that the transmission has gone out and will cost $3,000 to replace. In addition to the transmission my trunk never closes the first time around, I avoid using it just so that I don't have to attempt closing it 50 times before it clicks. The first day of a new job, the key would not fit in the ignition. I had to have a tow truck come down and the dealership said I might needed to replace the ignition. The interior radio and window buttons have bubbeled and peeled, and as of today five of my six CD's are stuck in the CD player. I am really disapointed and will most likely get a horrible return on what I thought was a great investment.
Bought it for Milage - Wow with extras
I researched my purchase for a long time. I wanted something that would not hold me hostage on gas price changes every other day. The TDI has been the answer. Its mileage has always been over 43 mpg (mostly city) and I can easily get over 600 miles on tank refills. The suprises for me were the comfort level (package 2), quiet ride, and fit quality ended up being much better than I expected. Throw in a quality dealer and this is one of the best vehicles in my 40 plus years of ownership.
