Great Ride!

I agonized over buying this car for weeks. It was between the Jetta, the Acura RSX, and the Honda Accord. After test driving, I picked the Jetta. It came standard with more features (especially safety features) than any other car I looked at. I mean, come on, everyone drives a Honda, be different. Plus, let's face it, it looks cool. The ride is smooth and the interior is great. I love the leatherette seats...all my friends think they are real leather. The heated mirrors and seats are great in the winter. I got the Option 1 with Sirius stellite radio...now I wished a picked XM, but the car is so versatile that I can get XM later if I want.

The standard features on the new Jetta seem endless. I was on a budget, so I bought the base model, and I am still discovering new features. Volkswagen designs their cars specifically for the driver. Volkswagen is to the automobile industry what Apple is to the computer industry. It's not a machine to get from one point to another, it is an experience to make the journey as exciting as the destination.

Fun to drive costly to repair

This is a very fun car to drive with plenty of pep for a 1,9 diesel. Rear brakes go out first not the front as with other vehicles. The design and engineering is second to none for ergonomics and style but very poor quality of parts. The driverside window motor was replaced, the wiring harness is a common point of failure and the vent grills break easily. You will like the feel of this car but not the expense to own.

Just picked up my new Jetta. It handles beautifully. I wanted a specific color and a manual transmission, so it took a long time to get. I had a Passat before and can truthfully say it drives just as well or better. Overall the car feels a lot more cramped, I guess I'm not used to such small confines. It gives me "sports car" fun.

I'd done a bit of research here at Edmunds.com and decided that a Jetta diesel was the economy car for me. I've owned Infiniti Q45's and Mercedes E-Class cars in the past. I wanted something that would get me great milage with reliability. I bought the automatic with package 1 (my wife must have heated seats) I've had the car for 4 weeks and have averaged 38 to 40 mpg on 4 tanks of fuel, doing combo highway/city driving. The car is fun to drive and really feels tight. I love the 6 speed auto transmission. It feels much quicker than it really is because of the torque. My only complaint is that it's a bit noisy on certain road surfaces at speed. The fit is good with everything feeling tight.
