After weighing all of my options, looking at competitors vehicles. I decided on the best car. The Jetta 1.8T w/ the Tip-Tronic and 17" wheels. The other cars were boring and all looked the same. This one stands out for performance and the "Fun Factor".

I bought my VW in May of 2002. It was a great car for the summer, but once I moved up North the problems started. The doors squeak incessantly -- taken to the dealership 4 times, been told they were fixed each time, but still have a squeak. The only option they gave me was to tighten the doors, but then I would have to shut them harder, causing rattles down the road... Passenger side window fell into the door, followed by a giant (10") spring flying out from under the seat. The driver's side door handle is covered by some material that began peeling off the day I drove it off the lot. I'm waiting to Lemon Law!!

Wolfsburg Jettas are better

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

I have really enjoyed my Jetta Wagon. The build quality is excellent with none of the squeaks and rattles that so often plague Puebla Jettas (all wagons are made in Wolfsburg while all No. American bound sedans are made in Mexico). It rides better than just about any small car (the Ford Focus comes close)and has a tight steering feel and excellent brakes. The interior (especially leather like mine) looks like an Audi and much better than any other subcompact car. The seats are very firm, but comfortable for long-distance travel. If it were stolen today, I'd buy another one, but probably one with manual transmission.

Within the first 11 months, I had the car in for unscheduled service 9 times! First the tires were wearing prematurely and needed alignment. The mechanics (Springfield Auto Outlet in PA) told me it was my fault! I had to replace the tires after 25k miles! Then the ignition coils went...again and again and again. The window regulators have gone multiple times. The interior rattles. Arm rest broke. My signal lights are constantly burning out. My temp light goes on for no reason. The car stalls frequently after starting it up. Thank goodness there is a 50k warranty. I got VW of America to credit me one car payment for all my troubles...thanks for nothing!

Happy and Sad

Purchased this used vehicle for my 90 mile a day/6 day a week job. Right away noticed that at least twice a year something would go wrong requiring $500-1200 dollars to fix at the local dealership. Now with 156000 miles my little yellow light told me it required a new transmission. Bummer as I wanted to fully test the longevity of the diesel engine. It reminds me of an expensive girlfriend that you really love, but have to lose to keep your sanity/money. Hence the bipolar ratings I gave this car.
