TRD OFF ROAD PREMIUM:
My first Toyota. Overall we love this vehicle but it has weak spots. My biggest complaint is the anemic engine and dated 5 speed transmission. The brakes feel spongy and a little under powered. The build quality is excellent. It rides and handles well for its class. We have the optional KDSD suspension which keeps it flat in corners so I give it an A plus. Limited … off road use other than logging roads. So I can't provide any insight for off road use but I'm confident that it's excellent. The mpg has exceed my expectations. 22 plus MPG during daily use with the wife driving, I usually do better. Hwy mpg is around 20 but we're usually driving at a high rate of speed. We've exceeded 24.5 mpg hwy when driving at the limit. The rest of my issues have to do with Toyota. First let me say that this vehicle was almost 50k. I was very disappointed that it didn't have remote start. I specifically ask the salesman about that and stated I need to download and use my phone. LIES. Secondly it's not equipped with automatic headlights--Really at $50k and not standard equipment. WOW! TIRES---Let me remind you this a "TRD OFF ROAD PREMIUM" came equipped with Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 P265 70 17" rated at 300 tread wear (lowest rating possible) B Temperature B Traction, what a disappointment. Why would you put a "P" passenger rated tire on a vehicle marketed for OFF ROAD? If you were going to do that at least put on a premium or middle of class tire. OEM Tires were horrible, they wandered on groved pavement, hydroplaned when it rained and horrible in snow. The came home after the first snow and complained that the tires were dangerous. New Michelin tires solved the problem. Most of my complaints are with Toyota's marketing/cheapness not the vehicle.
