2023 Nissan Titan
Mine is a 2023 Platinum Reserve, which I purchased as a CPO in June of 2024, so I've been driving it for almost a year.
Let's get the cons out of the way:
The camera image for the back-up cam is laughably bad. I mean, it's usable, but there are plenty of 10 year old cars out there with a better implementation. Strange that Nissan let the truck go out the door this way. The actual … screen seems to have good resolution. I think it's the camera. The overhead view feature is nice, though.
Rear doors don't open wide enough. It seems like a small thing, but it's annoying sometimes. You'll see what I mean, if you get one of these trucks.
Gas mileage. It's a big V8, so no surprise here, but it's too bad they couldn't squeeze a couple more MPG's out of it. Still, if you compare mileage figures from comparable engines from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc, the Titan is in line with those, maybe a bit better. I drive mine like it's a school bus, and I can eke out 22 MPG on the highway but more like 15 around town. On the other hand, my 2012 V6 Pathfinder got almost identical mileage, so the technology keeps improving. The current generation of Titans have the GDI motor and the 9-speed transmission, so they are much better on gas than previous years.
Resale value will not be good, since this is a discontinued model. If you're someone who hangs onto a vehicle, this isn't as much of an issue, though.
If you're into customizing your truck, there aren't nearly as many after-market options for the Titan as there are for the big three, plus Toyota. Z1 Offroad has some good stuff for the Titan. (I am not connected with them in any way.)
If you have a trailer hooked to the truck, the back-up sensor thinks it's a hazard and the buzzer goes off constantly. You can manually switch back-up alert off, but why didn't they just make this the default behavior?
The blower motor for the climate system is a bit noisy. Maybe it's just my truck, but most vehicles I've been in have a quieter fan. It's not brutal, but you notice it if the radio is off.
Really, that is about all I can think of to complain about, and it's not a lot. For the most part, my experience driving the Titan for the past 11 months has been great.
The motor is great. Quiet, smooth, powerful. They "recommend" that you run 93 octane fuel, but that is so you can achieve the full, rated 400-HP output from the engine. It will run just fine on 87. I usually compromise and run 89. I tow a small pontoon boat, and the truck barely knows it's there. There is no auto stop/start feature, nor is there any cylinder-deactivation or turbo-charging. These features might help a bit with economy, but they are also additional points of maintenance/failure. I'm happier without them.
Ride quality is excellent. The cabin is quiet and comfortable. Mine has the 20-inch wheels, which I think helps to smooth out the ride. Seats are very comfortable. I've done several 6+ hour trips and I've never gotten saddle-sore. The newer ones (2021 and up, I believe), are equipped with Apple Play, which is great to let you enjoy music, pod-casts, traffic apps, etc. Mine has the upgraded Fender sound system, which is more than adequate for the quiet interior of the truck. I've heard the base sound system, and it sounds quite good, too.
These trucks come with a bumper-to-bumper 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, which exceeds what every other truck manufacturer is offering. I take it as a sign of Nissan's confidence in the engineering and build quality of the truck. Hopefully, that's an accurate view. I have not had any issues so far (at 27K miles), and the truck has a solid, quality feel to it.
Seriously, if fuel economy is an issue for you, consider the Ford with the 2.7, or the Duramax 3.0 from GM. (I seriously considered the Ford. The 2.7 is supposed to be a great engine with adequate power, but the model years I was shopping for - 2021 & 2022 - are experiencing problems with the 10-speed auto, and I was nervous about becoming a statistic). Otherwise I can confidently recommend the Titan. It's sort of the forgotten full size truck, since Nissan didn't sell too many or market the truck very aggressively. I feel that it is an undiscovered gem. As others have pointed out, the Edmunds review of the Titan seems pretty unkind. My experience with the truck has been much better than the review implies. Take advantage of the lower resale value and pick up a slightly used one for a song, then go out and enjoy.
