Factory and Differential Issues
Bought a new 2021 Tacoma TRD OR 4X4 in November 2020. Had to take it back to the dealer to get the bed realigned and the rear bumper replaced because it was not put on correctly at the factory. I also had to get the sheathing on the steering wheel column replaced because it was not put on correctly and rubbing on the steering wheel at certain points. Now, not 6 months later, and at 7K miles, the rear differential is howling at speeds between 50 and 60mph. Taking it back to the dealer this week because it sounds like the diff is in premature failure. Research online shows failing differentials in Tacomas is a well-known issue, and even a TSB for the 2016 and some newer models. You would have thought they would have fixed this issue by now, but 2021 owners are saying they are having similar issues. While I love the truck, these types of issues are red flags. I wanted this to be my last vehicle because Tacomas are supposed to last forever, but I have seriously doubts now. I need a reliable truck for off-roading and pulling a camper, and while it's done great so far, I am having serious doubts about it's longevity.

21 Tacoma SR5 Trail Edition
Great truck , priced well. 99% happy with it. Sincerely would recommend one to a friend. One curious observation more than a complaint- Toyota: Why put a chromed grill piece on a vehicle that has every other accessory, badge, or trim piece either blacked-out or body colored ?

Very happy with the entire package from exterior trim/color to interior especially the infotainment center and ease of access. Ride is very smooth and transmission shifts smoothly. Extremely comfortable seat.

Why would anyone buy this?
I'm currently renting this vehicle because my 2020 F-150 with the 3.5 Eco boost was in an accident. Of the many vehicles I've driven The F-150 is by far my favorite. The Tacoma's V-6 engine is noisy, not smooth and not particularly powerful. The handling is wobbly, the interior is from a 1990 Lumina. When you shut the doors they sound hollow and cheap. My wife won't even ride in it. I've never disliked a vehicle more. Update; After looking up the model code GRN305L-PRTSHA, which is supposed to have a tow capacity of 6400 lbs, I decided to tow my boat with a gvw on trailer and gas of 4300 lbs to the lake. It struggled the whole way. My wife commented on how hard it was to even pull the empty trailer out of the water. Page 183 of owners manual essentially says it’s not designed to tow

Steering is terrible
The steering on the 2021 Tacoma SR5 is terrible. Very little feedback on hi-speed curves feels like it wants to oversteer. The bump steer at higher speeds is dangerous, my truck jumped almost 1/4 lane after hitting a minor bump at 60 mph. The roof has little insulation when you are in a rain storm can hardly hear the radio. I traded my 2018 colorado extended cab in for the tacpoma crew cab, really miss my chevy. Only has 3000 miles, can't wait to trade it in for a vehicle that I will feel safe in. I travel back and forth to Florida and will not take this tacoma, feels unsafe, only has 3000 miles, can't wait to trade it in for a vehicle that I will feel safe in.
