Prius Vs need MODDING!
I bought my Prius V for its roominess and fuel economy. Then I found it lacked a lot in handling. Better than a Prius sedan but still lacking. The long body is a "dishrag", begging to be stiffened. Luckily I found "Juiced Hybrid" in Redwood City, CA and the parts I needed to make it go really handle as it should. Now, with all handling parts installed it handles FAR better and is much safer in emergency maneuvers. I've installed: 1. three underbody stiffener braces 2. 17" ENKEI RPF1 wheels and Yokohama V rated 215/50/17 tires 3. front and rear sway bars 4. strut tower bar 5. 5% stiffer and 1" lower coil springs 6. INJEN cold air intake system with MAF sensor attachment port (slightly more power and slightly better highway mpg.) I've installed some electronics mods: 1. Prius V specific LED fog lights 2. LED running lights (in the grille) 3. shark fin antenna (body color matched) 4. LED interior lights 5. hard-wired line for my Garmin GPS 6. LED lighted rear bumper lights replaced the reflectors My next hybrid will likely be a Toyota RAV. I need more road clearance and AWD. Plus the hybrid RAV 4 is much quicker than my Prius v. Toyota needs to improve its hybrid electric motors. More POWER is needed! BUT... after driving the Hyundai Ionic hybrid I would definitely purchase it over any Prius if I got another hybrid sedan.

Boring reliable economic transportation and little else
Could have been a better car. Driving Controls are ok. I don't even mind the central gauge cluster, but it looks looks horrible. The infotainment system is slow. The nav in my 10 year old BMW was faster at imputing destinations and finding routes. It has a resistive touchscreen which is also horrible. The Prius power train is not very refined carrying around the extra weight. A boat-like feeling at any speed and numb numb numb, but above 60 mph, the car has an unsettling unstable feeling. Brakes are overly grippy at low speeds and mushy at high. Besides my gripes, it is excellently packaged. It carries what I need it to carry and gets north of 40 mpg in mixed driving.

11 month Owner Review
The Prius V poses the following suggestion by Toyota: Reliability being the cardinal feature, you are going to have to make significant compromises, but still pay the big bucks for some kind of a vinyl interior and a paper thin shell, because it is a Toyota and the general consensus is a Prius will still get you there the vast majority of the time without hiccups and do so without the mandatory toll on the pocketbook from exorbitant gas prices. The vehicle gets a poor safety rating from the IIHS, so regardless of whatever merits the Prius V may or may not possess, you might still get there, but without legs or head intact.
Great Family car except...
Great overall design and gas mileage for a family vehicle.
