HIGHLANDER IS GREAT
PURCHASED THIS SUV USED WITH 44000 MILES. BEST DRIVING EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD.
HLNDR
So far, I have no complaints. The auto is relatively expensive when compared to similar vehicles. It does take some time getting acustomed to dropping 30K on a truck. I expect it to pay off 8-10 years down the road.

Excellent with a few quirks
I love this thing! Lots of power, lots of space, great sound system, handles well for it's size/weight, mileage is good too. Only minor issues: slippery leather, poor stock tires, break shims had to be replaced on one wheel (bought it used at 30k miles though).
Family Guy
Pass a highlander on the road and it caught my attention! Showed one to the wife and she said she hated the look. We started to look at jeeps (Grand Cherokee). After talking with the Jeep Dealer, I convinced the wife to test drive the highlander anyway. To make a long story short, we purchase the highlander. The one we purchased we reserved before it it was delivered to the dealer. This was after the Jeep dealer had done a dealer trade for the exact jeep that we requested.
Nice
Just bought this vehicle for my wife to cart around our 2 boys and already love it. Compared to newer American vehicles we test drove, it was built much, MUCH better. I hope it gives us the longevity others say they have. We bought with 50k miles... how sad to say that this vehicle in the test drive had a better ride to it than the 09 American vehicles we test drove? GREAT resale value as well. No junk vehicle here!
Loaded Highlander Limited
I have now had my 2002 Highlander Limited for 1 week and am absolutely impressed with the ride, build quality and performance of this car. Six months ago I traded our '99 Lexus RX300 for another car for my wife. The Highlander is our second car and I see many similarities between it and the RX300. This truely surpised me considering a new RX will cost around $40k and I paid invoice of $29k for my Highlander! I cannot say enough good things about the 2002 Highlander Limited!
A Great SUV
Has never broken down. Gets about 30 mpg on the highway. Can tow a trailer. Very comfortable. Over all a very good buy. Would get it again
Very Good
I fell in love with SUV and finally it made to buy it. It is wonderful.
Great Vehicle
I could not be more pleased with my Highlander. Mine is one year old with 15,000 miles. It has not had the first problem. What more can I say?
GREATEST SUV FOR YOU MONEY!!!
I bought this SUV March 2001, own it for almost 1.5 years now, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT VEHICLE, NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER!!! RECENTLY ADDED THE SIDE RUNNING TUBES. LOOKS GREAT!!! BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM MY TOYOTA DEALER!!! JUST NEED A REGULAR OIL CHANGE/ROTATE TIRES EVERY 5K MILES. I THINK IT'S BETTER THAN PAYING DOUBLE FOR A BMW X5. SAVES YOU MONEY, NO LUXUARY TAX! AND BEST OF ALL IT'S A TOYOTA!
The Perfect Car!
In 2001 I discovered the Toyota Sequoia, and I watched as it increased 10K in price in 14 mos. Then I found the Highlander. It is the perfect combination of truck, performance, reliability, safety, cargo, quality, and comfort available for the price. Expensive? Perhaps, but compared to EVERYTHING else its a steal. If you have 50K for a car, get a Sequoia, but if you have 50K, why not just get the Lexus! For the rest of us - Highlander!!
Great Crossover SUV
I bought the Highlander after totalling a minivan in a rollover accident. This is the second Toyota product I have owned and am always pleased with the engineering and quality of construction of the Toyota line. The Highlander is no exception. It rides like a dream with the visibility I was accustomed to in the minivan but without the mommobile stigma my teens objected to. I did lots of research before choosing another vehicle and the safety of the Highlander was of great importance. So far so good...
One Year - No Problems
I have been driving my Toyota Highlander for a year now and have yet to find a problem with it. Unlike GM cars that I owned during the previous 25 years, it never had a failure requiring a warranty trip to the dealer. There was one non-urgent recall that I took the car to the dealer for, but the machine ran the same before and after the repair.
Quite pleased
Test drove the Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, and Chevrolet Trailblazer I found the Highlander to be superior in most catagories (especially comfort). So glad to be rid of my Merc Mountaineer which was very crude by comparison. It's a shame the U.S. automakers are still lagging far behind most imports. We are all driving Japanese at our house with my wife driving an Acura RL.
Great vehicle for the price!
I absolutely loved this vehicle when I first drove it. I got a year end blow out deal from the dealer so I paid a good price for this upper class SUV. Great performance and handling as well as build quality. Excellent reliability. The only knocks I can see are the fuel economy (ave. 23mpg) and the poorly located and impractical cupholders between the two front seats. But all in all the best vehicle that I have ever owned. Will defnitely purchase one again!
Great SUV
Coming up on 120,000. I guess I'll get a tune-up. Every time I take it to the dealer they say it's fine. Replaced the brakes once and had a ball bearing replaced. Other than that, it runs great. Husband bought me a new VW CC as an early Christmas gift - but I can't give up this SUV, so he'll have to take the new car. I know this sounds crazy -- but why replace it if it's running great!!! Plus it has more room and can haul more.
Colorado Highlander
A great little 4 cylinder SUV. Nice ride, good visibility, good overall quality. I like the way the Highlander drives, handles in the snow, and looks when I clean it. I've had some problems with fan noise and dashboard rattles. I plan on getting 150k out of this vehicle - just like my old Ford Explorer. For the money Toyota builds a great vehicle. I wanted a Camry station wagon & I think I got one.
Excellent Car
Having own this vehicle for a short time has made me love it...really love it! Interior design is well built and exterior is up to date with present designs and looks like it will never be outdated. Acceleration is great, brake system is excellent, overall performance is just what I was looking for. The dealer was very helpful and able to give us what we wanted.
Typical Toyo
Bought it, without telling the wife. After the fallout, let her have a long drive and, well. Lovely car. Manly truck. Smoooooth powertrain. Excellent visibility.
Awesome Vehicle
I absolutely love my Highlander. The smooth ride and performance is incredible. I test drove the competition before making my purchase and this is by far the best ride. Taking Toyota's reputation for excellence into consideration, this is a vehicle you're sure to love.
Worth the $$$$$
I have owned many different vehicles, mostly american made, but this was my 1st non-american made vehicle, and should I add... BY FAR the BEST of ALL!! I am sold on my Toyota. Great mileage, freat ride & handling & gives me the SUV look & room that I love. What more could you ask for?
Take the HIGHLANDer
What else would you expect from Toyota? The Highlander has the legendary quality and performance in a package that also has the SUV look without having to pay the price in ride or economy.
my car
This is really very well built car. Car not truck. Just took it to camping on rough road - very good for family treveling.
Great Car!
This is truly a great mix of an SUV and a car. With the added payload room of an SUV and the drive of a car it is an incredibly versatile and pleasant vehicle to drive. Coming from a full size SUV I appreciate the better mileage and much smoother handling.
Wow - what a steal!
This is a great SUV. It drives and handles like a car; and, it has ground and curb clearance like a truck. I have driven it on and off pavement and found that it works well either way. I did learn that SUV's hydroplane just as well as cars do...but I don't think its the SUV (if you get my drift). The Highlander is a handsome car with very easy features internally, like collapsing the back seat (VERY EASY), and changing CD's while driving. Everything is made easy for the driver and passenger!!! Great Car!
Great deal for a quality product!
I have owned this for 1 year now and am pleasantly surprised what a delight it is to own. This is my 3rd Toyota and I am just in love with this company. Their cars are far superior to all others I've owned... Chrysler, GM, Ford... none of them compare to the quality of Toyota. I was happy with the 4 cylinder over the 6, because the difference in power was not very great, and I was able to use the money I saved on upgrades like leather and sunroof - aftermarket ofcourse. I get loads of looks and questions from all kinds of people about this car. They are all surprised at how little I paid for it. $27000 new with everything. Highly Recommended.
Best car/SUV I have owned
My wife and I absolutely love our Highlander. It is the best vehicle that we have owned. It is peppy, fun to drive and has the feel of a car not a truck. I also own a Honda Accord and the handling and feel of the Highlander seems the same. It is an excellent cross-over vehicle. I highly recommend it!
I love my new Highlander!!!!!!!
This drives so much like a car and not an SUV. Believe it or not I chose this over the Lexus RX300 and not because of the price!!!
Just Plain Good Toyota
Excellent vehicle. Averages 20.5 MPG in city driving. Limited, fully loaded. Good cornering, excellent ride. OK on LIGHT off road. With traction control and vehicle skip control - the very best in wet weather.
Good SUV
This is a good SUV, met expectations.
The Best Out There
I absolutely love this vehicle, finally a great suv that doesn't feel like a truck. I could not be more pleased.
2002 Toyota Highlander
We have only had the Highlander for one week and have driven about 450 miles. This SUV is very smooth and quiet; very little wind noise and low levels of road noise even on concrete pavement. It handles very well with its tight turning radius and is easy to maneuver in a parking lot. Front seat comfort is excellent with the optional 8-way power seat. We traded in a '99 RAV 4 for the Highlander; there is no comparison between these two SUV's. So far, we could not be more pleased with this purchase
Awesome! Simply Mahvelous! Wow!
Wow! What an incredible vehicle! We traded up from a Camry and glad we did! From the outside it looks small, but once inside it has an amazing amount of space (especially after folding the back seats) Can carry lots of stuff (use often in our craft business, garage sale shopping, etc) Doesn't feel too big and can see everything on the road (unlike the huge SUV's) Doesn't feel like an SUV, but like a large Camry. SMOOOOOOOOOTH! Highly recommend. Can be a bit pricey but well worth the money. We purchased the 6 Cyclinder and love the get up and go! Thanks Toyota!
Great for our needs for under $24,000
We needed more room for yearly trips to Florida. We knew we had to look into an SUV for more room. The compact SUVs were cheap, but just too small. The midsize SUVs were out of our price range, until we found the Highlander. After driving it we knew it was the vehicle for us. We purchased a base model 4 cyl with a few minor upgrades. Let me tell you, this is great vehicle. It has everything you need. The 4 cly 2 WD FWD is great on snow covered roads and the engine has plenty of power for normal driving with the benefit of 22- 27 mpg. If you don't go off road and your looking for a vehicle for more room and a low price this one can't be beat.
Toyota's Lure
Outstanding Vehicle. My "test drive" was when I needed more cargo space for a trip to Wash DC last year. I rented a Highlander for the 14 hour, one way trip. It was so comfortable and tracked so well on the highway! I bought one a couple of months later. I hadn't planned on this major purchase, but the long trip decided it for me. Great gas mileage, the cargo I needed, nice styling, and drives like a car. Absolutely no problems, and complete satisfaction except for "annoyances" of cup holder and OD select mentioned below. 3.0 six cylinder is engine of choice.
The best midsize suv
Pleasure to drive, excellent fuel economy, toyota reliability, toyota quality, inside and out.
BMW to Highlander
I have driven a BMW for 9 yrs. I needed a new auto for our infant. I researched autos on Consumer Reports and this car was highly rated. I was hesitate at first since I loved my BMW. I decided to go with the Highlander for comfort, reliability, and price value. Great auto.
4 Cylinder - Better Than You Think
I think most people assume that you need the V-6 option with the Highlander, but if your driving is mostly suburban, the 4 cylinder is more than adequate. The 4 cylinder also does well in highway driving. I chose the 4 cylinder because I wanted to maximize my fuel economy, but still get into a somewhat larger SUV. (I used to drive one of the mini-SUV's)
I love my Highlander
First trip 1500 miles thru the West Va mountains. It handled like a dream. Smooth, quiet and comfortable. Excellant pickup, Seats are great, Bose sound is wonderful. Auto climate control works well. What more can I say.
I LOVE IT!
HANDLES VERY GOOD& NICE LOOKING WITH GOOD PRICE.I HAVE MANY PEOPLE IN CHURCH WHO,WANTS TO PURCHASE AFTER SOW MY HIGH- LANDER.
What a great crossover vehicle !!!!
This is my first Toyota and it is absolutey awesome. The quality of vehicle is superb. I still can not believe it is an AWD vehicle, because it does not drive like one. The brake is excellent with excellent fuel efficient. It is the best SUV I have ever bought. The push bottom and knobs of A/C are elegant. It "feels" great.
No Regrets at all
Dealer took 2 weeks longer than initially promised to get it in (in the Bluestone metallic). My wife and I love the car. The interior is very comfortable and stylish (the two-tone leather is great looking).
Good Switch from a
Having worn-out our second Blazer we hit the lots looking for another SUV. Tried the new GM products...Envoy, Trailblazer, Tahoe...but one drive in the Highlander and we were hooked. The Camry base is evident over the other SUV offerings, with a car like drive and handle...smooth, comfy and hugs the road. We do not tow but appreciate the peppy V6, traction system and mpg...a quality buy!
wonderful car
i love this car
I love this car!
This is my first SUV and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's very fun to drive - great transitions and breaking. Also, it holds everything!
Highlander On Target for Everyday SUV
The Highlander Limited V6 mimics the Lexus RX300 in many ways but more reasonably priced. Comfort and build quality are top-notch. More usuable storage than the Lexus. Drivetrain and ride are similar to a Camry, not like a typical SUV. Exterior size is about the same as a Honda Accord, which makes it easy to maneuver, park, and fit in your garage. The Limited is missing some things that would be expected on a vehicle over $33K, specifically steering wheel mounted audio controls. The stereo is first-rate, however. We've had the Highlander only a month but it is great and deserves serious consideration for SUV buyers.
Love the car
I have no complaints at all. Car is quiet, comfortable, and has tons of power.
Swan Lake
This truely is a dream like machine. Perfect quality, not a single blemish, not a problem in the 1st 6,700 miles we have driven, great snow traction, a head turner as you drive, a joy. Interior, console and trim are what you expect in a pricier Lexus. I read that Toyota uses the same suppliers as the Lexus. Our choice between the roomier Acura MDX ($3K more) and Highlander. Our Honda Accord experience was so bad that we decided go for the Quality leader. MDX reviews say Transmission Clunks and windows/sunroofs leak. I am glad we stuck with Toyota.
AWESOME SUV
Test drive the six and the four cylinder. The six cylinder is definately the choice model. It has been about a year since i picked up the 2002 Highlander and it has been perfect. Smooth and powerful v-6, comfortable interior, great handling for Suv and good gas milelage. Everything you need is a mid-sized Suv.
Another Toyota Winner
I was a little apprehensive about the Highlander at first - but after 6 months of driving this vehicle is a real winner! I know it's a SUV that that will never see more than a dirt road but it doesn't need too. The majority of the SUV buyers over pay for off-road capabilities that they never use. Stop pretending and save some money.
