Rather uncomfortable is odd ways
The car absorbs big bumps pretty well, but the ride is always a bit unsettled and jiggly whereas I find the ride of the Hyundai Sonata and Genesis and Kia Optima more solid, settled and premium feeling. The front seat bottoms of the Avalon are small and thinly padded as one would expect of an economy car. I've noticed Toyota's little Corolla S with sport seats actually has larger, more thickly padded seat bottoms hence are more comfortable on longer drives than the front seats in the Avalon. The air conditioner fan is weak - on hot days I have to keep it on high speed which makes for a noisy, economy car like driving experience. The roof of the Avalon XLE is very thinly padded - has almost no padding or insulation so on hot days you really feel the heat of the sun radiating through - which once again detracts from a premium comfort experience a car in Avalon's size and price class should deliver. The 4 cylinder engine / continuously variable transmission combination are powerful enough, but quite noisy during acceleration - which once again contributes to an economy car like driving experience. About the only time the car felt premium was while driving around town at low speeds when the ride was quiet due to the acoustic windshield and side glass. At higher speeds road and tire noise are fairly high - about the same as a Camry .

Sleek hybrid
Sleek hybrid with great styling and terrific instrumentation. Wonderfully comfortable I've been getting 40 mpg.

Great Comfort, Luxury, Reliability and Efficiency
I bought my '17 Avalon Hybrid Limited a year ago with 47K miles and have since added another 10K trouble-free miles. This car replaced my '05 Prius with 227K trouble-free miles. The Avalon Hybrid is truly an amazing car. I average 38-39 MPG in mixed driving, and normally get 500+ miles on each tankful of regular gas. I have had two regular service visits to the Toyota dealer, one at 50K miles and the next at 55K miles. Each visit was about $70. The ride is quiet, smooth and comfortable, and the seats nicely fit my 5'8" 250 lb. body. The back seat is cavernous! Plenty of legroom to stretch out. The trunk is also generous. Four of us recently spent a few days in Vermont. The Avalon had no trouble swallowing all our luggage plus a walker/roller. The car is peppy. I let a friend borrow it for a few days and he was impressed with the acceleration, previously believing that hybrids are slow. Not the Avalon. It has plenty of power to merge and keep up with traffic. I love the auto-dimming inside and driver's side mirrors! Every car should have that feature. I like that the two outside mirrors tilt down when the car is in reverse. That's helpful. I also like the white ambient lighting, although it is a bit faint. I have only a few minor complaints about the car, as follows: The JBL sound system is good, but not one of the best I've heard in a premium car. The ventilated seats are OK, but are only slightly helpful in helping to cool the seat. Lastly, the charging mat is slow to charge my iPhone. It's much faster to use the USB cable. That's it for my minor gripes. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my Avalon Hybrid Limited and would highly recommend it to others!

Big Prius Sometimes Better Than Sometimes Not
A great used car value. 40 MPG no problem in Eco mode. And you won't even notice lower performance. Comfortable car with a big car feel. Left BMW i3 electric after too many big repairs at low mileage. Good: mileage, comfort, safety, quality, standard features, reliability. Could Be Better: wobbly ride, cumbersome transmission shifter, dark interior, small trunk. If not this car try the 2015 Lexus ES 300 hybrid. Another great used car value. My dealer had a used one but it had been in an accident. Same great 40 MPG as the Avalon Hybrid.
