Used 2021 Toyota 4Runner Consumer Reviews
Biggest (49k) mistake of my life
This was my first time buying a Toyota. Before this I had multiple Ford Explorers over the years (old frame). Since Ford changed the frame I did months of research and ended up buying a Toyota 4runner. What the research didn't tell me is that the paint on these things are horrible. After only the first 4-5 months I had all sorts of paint chips all over the front of the vehicle, front bumper, hood, windshield pillars, roof....and I only drive on paved roads...the same roads I drove my ford for 10 years without ANY paint chips from daily driving. less than a month in and this thing needs an entire paint job. Complained to the local and corporate, they won't warranty the damage even though I spent 49k on this vehicle. Wish I never bought it and would not recommend it to anyone, unless you plan to repaint your vehicle yearly. I had always heard great things about Toyota, someone needs to make this well known so people know what they are getting into, especially when spending more than what they would on a Ford or GM.
I may have to keep my 08 Limited V8
I leased this without ever test driving it. *Hint - go through a broker - Hint* So the ride home was horrible. They left the tires at 60psi, never prepped it, etc. After the tires were set and all the electronics were programmed to the right country and time zone it was ok. I think the Off Road suspension is to stiff. Its 2021 you can dampen a vehicle, especially an off road vehicle, to like being driven on road also. Its quiet, nice layout, but there are flaws. Its and old chassis with modern updates. Im sure its going to be great offroad but seems to pretty boyish for me. I like driving cars with no options, and have that old smell. My 02 530i is a prime example. My 08 4runner is another good example. The running boards on the 21 just like the 08 need removal. When you step on them you can pretty much climb on the roof. Theyre pointless to the extreme of having to be 4 foot 2 to be fuctional. Back to the ride. Its without a doubt quieter then my 08 at speed. They both dont have rattles but the 08 still feels more solid. The power with the V8 is RIGHT NOW compaired to waiting until the upper RPM for some power. Around town the 08 rides better with 121000 miles more than the 21. The 21 is just stiff but may have to play with tire pressures more. I dont look at gas mileage but the V8 gets 14 and the V6 gets 17ish max with mainly highway. The 21s suspension is hard to explain. It almost makes the car feel very light, with the stiffness. It does not like wind. Crosswind you will feel to the point of you having to steer into it to stay in lane. The new dash and infotainment is pretty decent. The JBL Nav in the 08 is pointless. I know how to use the volume and tuning knob, THATS IT. If i had a choice I would pick the V8. The only reason why I got the 21 is that it has a warranty, the next gen looks like a 4cyl hybrid, the chassis is proven, and the residual is the best. Ide recommend driving ine before buying it. Understand that the pretty boys who commented above are comparing apples and oranges. They both drive cars, with bubbles on the back, unibody, independent suspensions, and want to take their living room for a drive. These are built on land cruiser frames, solid rear axels, meant to tow, go camping, and designed to live in the middle east. Dont be confused, these are not lifted cars.

No surprises
After reading up on the 4runner, I knew what I was getting into and not disappointed. Sure, I would like more power but I'm unable to complain after driving on the hilly Pennsylvania turnpike with cruise set at 75 and able to maintain without even 1 mph difference and averaging a no surprise 20 mpg. It could be a little quieter but I just crank up the very good audio system. The retractable rear window is great for hauling lumber. Only two complaints, the running boards are too narrow. I'd take them off if it wasn't for the stone chip prevention. The second is the odd tire size which is only offered by a couple of manufacturers. This thing is awesome in heavy snow. Changed cabin filter after 14000 miles and the thing was so full of leaves, bugs, and feathers that I had a hard time removing. Few of the leaves made it into the blower and had to use a vacuum to clear.
