transmission stuck
Was in 4Wd backed up tried to disengage 4Wd and couldn’t disengage go forward or backwards. Called the dealer they had me shut the car off in neutral THEN I could disengage the two locked up transmissions and move. I luckily was in my driveway don’t know if this a new car problem. Less them 100 miles on this car purchased brand new
Great at some things, bad at others
Pros - feels like a tank, build quality is superb, tall seating position, lots of interior room, apple car play makes the otherwise dated tech livable day-to-day Cons - lots of wind and engine noise above 70mph, while the engine feels adequate around town, seems to work extra hard above 70mph and with any sort of grade, 15mpg around town. I'd recommend the 4runner if you plan to spend a meaningful amount of time off-road. If not, what makes the 4runner great will be outweighed by the areas where it underperforms - old tech, not enough power for highway speeds up any sort of hill, and pretty embarrassing fuel economy. I ended up selling mine after only 5 months and a road trip where I had to reduce my speed to under 70mph to reduce the wind/engine noise to make a conference call.

Traded in a Highlander for a 4Runner :-(
We had a Highlander and we traded it off for a 4Runner. When we test-drove the 4Runner we really didn't drive it out of town to recognize it was underpowered, nor did we sit in the back to recognize the 4Runner had less legroom for the rear passengers than the Highlander! While the 4Runner is bigger on the outside, the volume inside seems smaller and it feels like your sitting on the floor. It just seems underpowered and shifts a lot when climbing hills at 60-70 mph and it doesn't like pulling a small trailer. The reliability has been good, but we have only had it less than a year.
