Dissapointment
Subaru knowingly has an issue with the cooling system. The car does not have a heat guage that would indicated tge car is getting hot until uou blow a gasket, as with my 2002 Foester. I bought the outback cause I like Subaru and thought I just had bad luck with the 2002. Well, on this car thank goodness we did not blow a gasket because the hose to the radiator popped off several times on same day. We drove it to mechanic, he had to replace entire radiator as the connection point from radiator to hose was broken. AND SUBARU KNOWS ABOUT PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING!! Instead they extend the mileage warranty ( according to another consumer). The electrical system stinks. At the 1 yr mark our front lights had to be replaced. At the 4 yr mark the calling system does not function, if I try to make a call, I can not hang up using the panel on the steering when..I have to use my phone; so no calls! Also, my window control buttons on driver side does not function for front passenger window. And finally, 'creme de la creme!!' The electronic brake gets stuck. When you pull to release it only beeps and the brake light indicator on the dash panel blinks!! And you are STUCK! You can not drive!! The worst part is Subaru also knows of probkem as my husband called and they told him there is a tool underneath the spare tire compartment so he can do the job of releasing the brake!!! SOOOOO disappointed!! No more subaru!!

Perfect car for northern snowy states
If you live in an area that gets quite a bit of snow and ice and you want to be able to get around relative safely, invest in good snow tires and an all-wheel-drive like this. Fantastic traction even going up snowy slippery streets and roads. It is so good that you forget about it and tend to go too fast. The braking because of the snow tires is also improved but one has to be careful so you don't get too overconfident. Going on dirt/gravel Crouch roads are great even when the roads are muddy and wet. Slight lag on the acceleration when you punch down because of the CVT, but not a deal-breaker when you compensate for it. A little underpowered, but we have not had any trouble driving in heavy city traffic and making quick passes and quick lane changes. My next Outback may have a turbo-charged engine if the price is not crazy and the insurance is also not crazy. Had to get a gasket leak fixed and some problem with the transmission but was covered by our extended warranty. As complex and expensive as cars are getting to have repaired, I would suggest this for any new car nowadays. We love our Subaru.
