Sad to Say Good Bye

My wife purchased this vehicle in 1995 saying she would keep it for ten years - I laughed - yeah right. 10 years later it is being sold after no major problems, just routine maintenance; never even had to replace the battery and we are in Canada. With four snow tires it would go anywhere and with the 5 speed manual it gave a good top end on the highway just took time to get there. Highly recommend this vehicle and great fuel economy to boot.

ehh... not so bad

First car I ever drove. In all honesty, for what this car is it's not too bad. Did all the regulars, radiator, water pump, alternator. No major problems yet(nock on wood), but at 160k miles I definetly have the bus route on hand. With a manual it's a little peppy, it's no rally car but it still supprises me at 100hp. Definitely don't get 40mpg, more like 30, but haven't had a tune up in God knows how long. Almost bulletproof, it made it through my abuse this long (no oil for weeks, left rotors on with bad break pads until there was a pinky size indent on the rotors, etc). Does burn a ton of oil though, but all and all, I would definitely buy a Saturn for my kid to abuse, but not 4 me

Leaves something to be desired...

I got the car used from my mom after she stopped being able to drive. I'm glad I didn't buy it new. It's a little underpowered and the 4 spd auto has very strange shifting patterns. I also wish the gas mileage were a little better. My Geo,with a 1.8L does much, much better.

Great Little Car

My grandfather bought the car new and got ALL the upgrades, so I've been with it from the start. I got the car a little under a year ago, and it has been a great little car. I'm 18 years old and drive it pretty hard, and I have had no problems whatsoever except for the usage of oil. I have to add a few quarts every 2,000 miles because if I don't the engine runs dry pretty quickly. Impressively, esp. with an automatic, at 6,500 RPMs (from the twin overhead cam engine) right off the line I can compete with most other cars on the road. Only other complaint would be slight interior rattling (noticed especially after the installation of an all after market sound system).
