Unlikely Standard

The 1995 Mitsubishi Montero SR that I bought in June of 1996, as a left-over, has proven to be the best vehicle I have ever owned. 202,000 miles into my experience with this car has shown me that it is capable of handling any driving conition that I have encountered. In my search for a replacement, I am left wanting. No other current model of any brand has felt as sturdy, on center and in control as this Montero. This car does nothing but what I ask of it and has maintained its looks throughout. Good, solid, safe, reliable and extremely under-rated, this vehicle has set the standard for its class.

The most reliable vehicle that I have owned. 236,000 miles, no major mechanical problems and it's still going strong.

Unbelievibly reliable

This is my second Montero. I had a 1990 previously. Both of these cars have been incredibly reliable, especially for a 4wd. I sold the 1990 and nothing had ever broken. I have 130k miles on the 1995 and it runs like new. It is easy to park and is fun to drive because of the visibility. Once this one dies I will run not walk to my dealer to buy another Montero. ps. If you buy an SR beware of the timing belt. It is much longer than the timing belt in the LS and needs to be changed more frequently.

It took 80000 miles to trust

Purchased new after a Chevrolet dealer gave us the run around, my wife was instantly smitten with the Montero SR. This is a true 4x4 and should not be confused with a Tahoe or even a Jeep as it has locable differentials and true grunt.Disappointments have been few,AC compressor stopped at 38000 miles (no warranty) and cost $1200.00.available. The timing belt replacement at 70,000 cost $1200.00 from the dealer! This was a rip off. The unit has leather interior, however this is top surface only and the vinyl on the drivers side is worn out and was worn out before 50K.

Built to Last

I've had this SUV for one year. It currently has 120k miles. After fixing the water pump, the engine has worked great. I love the roominess, compass, four-wheel drive, height, reliable engine, two extra seats in the back. One time I took ten people from Harlingen, Texas to Monterrey, Mexico. It was packed, but we made it. One main thing I don't like is the rough ride.
