Still a great value
I just bought a 1994 Montero needed a bigger car at this moment, this SUV is a great buy, bigger than I thought, stronger than I hope for. Great in any weather 4 x4 is a great feature. My SUV have 140k miles I hope that it will run for many more...
Owner of a Gen2 Montero
I've had my 1992 Mitsubishi Montero for 3 years now. It's worked out very well for our family as a dog hauler, people mover, furniture mover, etc. I've spent much less in repairs and maintanence on it than I did with our 1994 Land Rover Range Rover, but we expected that. I had the infamous smoking exhaust/worn valve stem seals occur during my second year of ownership, but simply replacing all of them with new seals cured that completely. I'd buy the truck again if I had too, so that probably is the best review I could give.
Great Truck
I have had this truck for over 7 years now and still enjoy it as much as the day I bought it. Very reliable, very comfortable and tons of room for passengers and cargo. With 150,000 miles on the odometer, the truck is slowly starting to wear out. Frequent leaks, and parts that are breaking. Almost looks like it reached its design life.
Swiss Army Knife on wheels
I've had it for 8+ years now and still enjoy it. It has held up extremely well. Will soon replace a clutch (5 speed manual) but other than this, it has had only scheduled maintenance. It cleans up well - looks almost new. It is loaded with features for both off-roading and going to the opera. The manual box is the most versatile off-road transmission on the planet. Engine shows no sign of aging - an extremely smooth hummer. It's not fast, and it definitely handles more like a truck - but this is a very capable off-road (and soccer team) seven seater. If the new models were not quite so ugly, I'd buy a new one.
Great Winter Ride!
I bought my Montero my first year in College, and loved it! I immediately put bigger wheels and tires on it and took it kayaking, mountain biking, and skiing. Opening day in 2001 it snowed 72" in 36 hours in the NW. We were the only people at the mountain, no one else could make it into the parking lot before the plows came. I had to replace the intake and exhaust valves at 100k miles as well as the head gasket. This is a very heavy vehicle, the V6 is too small in my opinion for it, not very much power. Other than that, very nice vehicle.
