A Real Stormer!
I have had the privilege of owning this car for 10 years now. I bought it from my neighbor for $1000 in the spring of '04 as it was hit in the back end. I fixed it up for another 1K and for 2K I had a real rocket ship. Power is unbelievable! will plaster you to the back of the seat in first four gears! Stay out of the turbo and get 30 mpg on highway. Who could ask for more? I have restored it in last couple years and looking forward to many more carefree miles. If you get a chance to get one...JUST DO IT!!

The Basics of the Basics
I recently got my 90 eclipse base and it's 1.8 L non turbo FWD. and it's my first car so I'm kinda disappointed because it's not what I thought I was getting it's only got 94 horsepower but it's a great car for gas. I'm at about 174,000 miles and there's nothing wrong engine wise except that it's not fast at all. i mean this car has never even heard of the word torque. but it's a good car for saving gas.and if your only taking about 1 person with you. and my hatch arms don't hold it up to i gotta get some new ones but i hear that happens all the time.
Great car
Owned the car for 10 years and replaced the battery and tires and did routine maintainence, that's ALL. The car was quick with loads of torque steer, awesome car.
Fun to drive-- for a single gal
Sporty car with a bad paint job.the factory paint was sun bleached and peeling in 1998! Lots of fun to drive-- smooth shifting and little bouncing/rattling. It got about 28mpg. Problems I had with it: wouldn't idle when the engine was cold, stalled as soon as you took your foot off the gas. It burned a lot of oil, but NEVER leaked. Temp.guage also failed. Other parts that I know fail on early 1990s mitsubishis are the hydraulic arms for the hatch-- mine never worked, neither did those on a 1993 Eclipse I drove. MUCH roomier than Honda Preludes, but there's NOT enough legroom in back for your standard adult.
17 years of owning this car
With 17 years of owning this car I have to say it has been fun. A rebuilt trans, a new engine and many other things but I have gone 175,000 miles with it and gone all over the country. many memories and it still looks almost new, which surprises even the dealers.
GR8 Ride
GET ONE NOW. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST INVESTMENT THAT YOU COULD SPEND YOUR MONEY ON. THIS IS WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER A LITTLE FIRE CRACKER. IT ALREADY CRANKS OUT 195 HP FACTORY FOR A 2.0T. WITH MINOR ADDITIVES SUCH AS PLATINUM SPARK PLUGS AND A K&N AIR FILTER YOU WILL GET WELL OVER 200 HP.
Never Buy Mitsubishi
I purchased this car in 1999 at 105k miles. It ran great and was very fast until around 110k. Around that time the engine began to leak a little bit. I started to experience rough idle around 115k and by time I hit 120k the engine was leaking excessively. The brakes on these cars tend to squeek a lot even if you replace them over and over again. The temperature sensor gauge went auto on the vehicle as well and made is difficult to start at sub 50 degree temperatures. The turbo, also, now around 130k miles does not function properly. I will be dumping this vehicle soon.
Great Car
I think its a great car
Chaos Review
I really like it, I hate to sell it. I love my 1st gen eclise.
Reliable car!
Got this car in 2001 with 120k miles. Just sold it with 122k. Reliable. Didn't spend any money on it until now when the ECU (CPU) went dead. Seemed a big deal according to the mechanic. It turns out I found out about the folks at www.ecutogo.com here in Houston. They fix and sell rebuilt ECUs that you can install yourself. Fairly easy problem to fix, that seems to haunt almost every Eclipse. Besides the ECU problem, only minor stuff like the lift arms on the hatch. Just go to Autozone and get a new pair, not a big deal either, you can even install yourself, but it's kinda tricky. Other than that, the car runs good, doesn't fail on you.
Fun And Fast
This car is a really fun fast car to drive. As soon as the turbo hits it gives you a feeling of immense speed. I love this car! Until a couple of months ago the turbo stopped working and now I burn a lot of oil when I drive. Need to get that fixed so I can have some more fun. Looking forward to havinging it fixed by the summer. Don't know what all is wrong with it.
My beat up jewel....
My previous car was a 1990 crx - automatic, dx. That I didn't want to sell because was so dependable but I needed the money. A friend of mine sold me the car cheap- dirt cheap ($600). As you can imagine, the car was in need of some major "tlc" but it ran and was a 4 cylinder. The first time I drove it I fell in love. As beat up and horrible looking that it was, it got up and went like it had been hit in the rear end by a locomotive. I haven't regreted the purchace since. It's never left me anywhere stranded, always starts and is a blast to drive.
Best Car I Ever Had
Though it had its faults, torque steer being one of them, this is the car that I still think about.
A "poor man's Porsche"
I owned my 1990 Eclipse Turbo from mid-1990 to the end of 1998. In that period I logged a bit over 46,000 miles in this little rocket, and enjoyed the heck out of it. I sold it only because I'd heard that that the turbo engines were developing problems after 50-60,000 miles, and my wife didn't like driving it once the roads started filling up with huge SUVs. In retrospect I wish I'd kept it a couple of years longer. The torque steer when you accelerate is noticeable, but manageable. Overall, a lot of car for the money!

My first car
This car was given to me by one of my father's friends a couple months ago. After replacing 1 power steering hose the leak I had was gone. It runs very well and has amazing pick up and handling. The gearbox positioning is something to get used to but after a while it's fine. It has no issues mechanical issues other than the power steering leak I had and has been running perfectly with no issues since 80000 miles. Its not in the best physical condition as there is a smallish dent from an accident in 96 and the paint is peeling but overall I just love this car. The one downside is the back seat. I'm 5'5" and I can't sit up straight without my head hitting the ceiling. I still have the original speakers which sound like crap after nearly 30 years but it works. Overall this is very reliable and fun to drive. Gets good mileage if you avoid using the turbo. ( I don't and you're a fool if you do.)

My first car, still own it
I love this car. I begged my parents for this car when I was 16 back in 1990. My parents surprised me with it and I’ve Loved it ever since. I added a giant stereo to it with a custom boom box and shorted out the electrical system a few years back but I’m dying to get it figured out so my kids can drive it when they turn 16. It’s the ultimate shifting car. It goes extremely fast and I did get a lot of speeding tickets in this car. My cars not even turbo. One was for going 123 on the lonely stretch of highway going from Vegas to Mexico. It’s fast.
