never in 21 yrs given MB less than 5 stars, but...
I guess every maker has a bad year. I think it’s MB’s turn. I’ve had this new 2019 S560 4matic sedan 5 months, and all 5, battled operational and technology issues, PLUS, a dealer who has REFUSED to fix the car! And MBUSA has refused to get in the middle. The car will not shift - 3 times in one day, it’s confused, won’t shift into park, and the shifter operates the NAV screen! I felt like I was being taken over by a machine in Terminator and my car was rebelling. Many technology issues, such as not using a contact for directions - it tells me info is missing, even though it’s there. Won’t load all my contacts (yes, I’ve done everything all the books and MB says), my doors suddenly won’t unlock and I have the key fob. All except technology failures, are intermittent but enough I can not trust the car again. It doesn’t help the dealer actually refused to take the car, won’t send anyone to view the problems so I can create them, MB executive relations won’t get in the middle, and I’m stuck with a car I rightly can’t trust to drive.

Back In The "High Life" Again!
This is a truly refined automobile. I traded in my 2017 BMW 740i for the 2018 S450. There is very little comparison to the two cars. The Mercedes is quick, smooth riding and handling, stays in a straight line with little driver input which was not the case with the BMW 7 Series. The vehicle corners precisely and does not handle like a 4500+ pound luxury sedan - but more like a 3800 pound vehicle. This car is, without doubt, the most beautiful, fun-to-drive and most comfortable luxury sedan I have every driven - and I have owned more than 40 luxury sedans in my lifetime. The pricing on this car is about $10,000 less than the S560 - mostly due to the V6 bi-turbo as opposed to a V8 bi-turbo. I drove both models and found the S450 to be a bit more nimble. Be prepared to surround yourself in the epitome of luxury, performance, audio, as a well as a myriad of driver safety features like adaptive cruise, adaptive lane departure, adaptive blind spot monitoring (which cause the car to remain in the lane if a car is detected on either side of you. Self-steering is precise as is the adaptive cruise. I'll update my review as I build up the miles. In summary, this is a luxury sports sedan while the BMW 7 series tends to be a more sporty handling vehicle. The new 9 speed transmission and driver-selected ride and handling options (Comfort, Sport, Economy) make the world of difference in this new S Class entry. Audio System is not to be believed - like listening to a live performance.

AMAZING LUXURY SEDAN 2018 S560
This is by far the finest luxury car I have ever driven. Read all the owner reviews. When Mercedes redesigned the S560 in 2015 they had to get it right to reclaim their status at the top of luxury cars. They did get it right and even owners of a Bentley and Rolls have told me it is superior to their sedans. It is perfection on wheels and the awesome technology wraps you in safety as well as comfort. The refined Distronic Plus allows you to sit back and relax and let the car drive itself for you on the highway. It has been upgraded from my 2015 and is far more refined on the highway tracking your lane exactly. You will not be disappointed in the car. It is truly amazing.

2019 Mercedes S 450 problems
A month ago I traded in my 2015 S 550 for a 2019 S 450, my 4th S Class and our 7th Benz. It has already been in the shop twice -- the nav system can not find certain mature house numbers and zip codes and the onboard owner's manual does not open. The folding mirrors have failed to fold twice when the doors are locked. The Merecedes shop keeps talking about software upgrades which makes me wonder if all 2019 S Class cars have these problems, or only mine. I have sent e-mails to Mereceds-Benz Germany, who says that the responsibility is with MBUSA, and MBUSA armwaves saying the car has a warranty. If the Mercedes shop is unable to fix the car the warranty is useless. Not what one would expect from a company that brags "Das Beste oder nichts". After six visits to the shop the nav system is dysfunctional. I recently checked a 2019 CLS 450 --- same problem with the nav system as on my S 450. My 2019 S 450 also developed a problem with the Easy Entry/Exit system. The steering wheel no longer moves up or down. The shop fixed it but the fix did not last long. The car is a Lemon and MB bought it back.

UPDATE ON MY S 450 SEDAN
My S450 now has 6350 miles on the odometer. It continues to be problem free - never have had to return it to dealership for any adjustments or problems. Fuel economy continues to excellent - 31.5 mpg highway - 21 mpg around town - 23.5 mpg average. The twin turbo V6 engine continues to awe me because I still can’t believe the power and acceleration in this car. It still rides and handles the same as the day I picked up the car new. I really can not recommend any changes to this vehicle - it is smooth riding, handles effortlessly, is comfortable to sit in any seat (front or back), the audio is crisp and clear like sitting in a music hall, 360 degree camera shows your car’s position relative to the surroundings, interior is exquisite and functional for driver and passengers, and the adaptive cruise control is a treasure when driving on the interstate for an extended period of time. I’ve tried the self-parking feature but prefer not using it since I never have to parallel park. Technology is impressive - but I caution those interested in this vehicle that the learning curve for the myriad of technologies and their use is long. I would estimate that it took me 3 months of driving it to master most of them. Every so often I come across something new that I did not know existed. I guess it kind of awes you as you learn more and more about this car’s capabilities. This one’s a KEEPER! I LOVE THIS CAR!

Buyer Beware!!!! Defective Car - Bad Care
I bought this car new in September from a Sonic dealership. Gorgeous car. By the first week of October, it was in the shop. The convertible top started to raise, then froze with the boot open. The top could not be raised or lowered. After 8 days, service manager of dealer called to explain that it could not be repaired, that this was a problem with 2018 S class cabriolets. He says that production has been canceled and that MBUSA had just bought about 10-12 of the cars back. I asked about a loaner and was promised one -- three separate times. I never got one -- apparently they know this will be a long process. Service manager advised that Mercedes wanted me in any other car ... just not an S class cabriolet. I researched and made a selection. At one point, my sales person even sent me a link to the proposed replacement car, at another Sonic dealer. After a couple of weeks, I called and asked where the car was. Difficulty dealer trading for it, I was told. Furious, I called MBUSA, who denied knowing anything. Then my dealer sales person texted that MBUSA was going to buy me out, and it would be an "ordeal." MBUSA denied when I called, said they had issues with the dealer, and said they would be back in touch. Days go by before I hear back (despite a promise to call me the next day). Eventually, I am told that they are recommending a buyout, but it will be 2-4 weeks for regional "approval." Fortunately, after pitching a fit, I hear the next day that I will be bought out, but it the process will be turned over to a third party logistics firm to handle. I got all documents to them within 24 hours, and have yet to hear anything; they advised process will take up to 4 weeks. In sum, I bought a new Mercedes flagship vehicle; it was operated over about 2.5 weeks before it ceased to function; my dealer tells me it's defective and promises a new, slightly more expensive and different car (but never responds to requests for a loaner); I call MBUSA; dealer and manufacturer point fingers at each other; eventually I am promised a buyout (MBUSA never answers directly the question of whether this is a recurring defect for S class cabriolets); and I am still waiting on my money, paying insurance since I still own the car, more than 5 weeks after the car left my possession and almost four weeks to the day I was promised a new car. I've owned a Porsche, a Range Rovers, BMW M3, 2 Audi A8Ls, an early Infinity Q45, and two Hondas in my life. All great cars. This has been the single worst customer experience for any product, let alone the most expensive car I've ever bought.

2020 Mercedes Benz S class
Great driving car, had a 2013 S class that I trade it in for the 2020. The 2020 is a S560 AWD. The all wheel drive is a big difference how the car handles taking curves. The interior and finish of the are are of excellent workmanship and quality material. I recommend this car. Only problem I had was the run on flat tires, they do not last. Had to replace three, two with side bubbles and one just blew while driving. They are expensive and depends where you are, it may take days to get a replacement. Finally I got rid of all four tires. Why does MB use these tires? Don't recommend them. Best to have a spare.

Best car I have ever owned
Twin turbocharged 6 cylinder engine develops 382 horsepower. This car has plenty of pickup for driving in city or on highway. I consistently hit 32 MPG on highway, using the self adjusting cruise and lane retention features. The technology is amazing. It virtually drives itself, maintaining in lane, adjusting speed to traffic, and self parking. The finishes on the exterior and interior are excellent. After driving several other Luxury brands, I will have a tough time leaving my Mercedes.

Not a great car for the money.
I Purchased a 2017 S 550 after driving it for one day I realize there was something wrong with the ride I took it back four times and they still couldn't fix it. They were saying the tires were capped and that they replace them but they didn't and then I finally got him to replace the tires and it turned out that the rims were bad. Even after they are done room replacement supposedly it still didn't ride properly. I told them I didn't want to car. After going back-and-forth with the regional manager we agreed that they would give me the price that I paid for the car and then I bought a new one 2018 was supposedly going to have 1200 miles on it but when I got the car and ended up having 2800 miles on it. Having dealt with this for the last three weeks I was wanting to have it be done so I took the car. Unfortunately was having the same problem with the runflat tires and the car ran terribly they replaced all the tires on the car and it was better but the front right seat what is vibrating so I took it to a local tire person and had them high speed balance the tires and they told me that the rim on the front right tire was bent so I took it back to the dealer again and they repaired it not replaced repaired. Anyway finally have the car still does not ride well on the highway I think part of is it to do with the runflat tires. I had a 2012 the car road like a dream. I think Mercedes need to do something about the runflat tires. I'm just about ready to try to get up the energy again to go back and have them try to fix it again. Not what I'm looking to do with my time when you spend $115,000 on a car. Beware of the runflat tires I would not buy another car from Mercedes my next car will not be a Mercedes

Overall it is a great luxury sedan. It handles very good on the road. Eco start/stop feature is annoying and creates uncomfortable driving specifically during frequent stops. It should not be used during comfort driving.

S500 2021
Although I’ve never written a car review before, I feel it’s important to share my experience with this vehicle. Since I purchased it, I’ve encountered a series of problems, starting with a fuel pump failure that stranded me on the highway. The electrical panel malfunctioned three times, and I faced alignment issues—one was a recall, while the other was due to improper alignment. That was an ordeal itself. I was left waiting over two hours on two occasions for Mercedes to tow the car to the dealership. So much for Elite car services. Despite bringing the car in multiple times to request an inspection of the brake pads, mine you the car had less than 15,000 miles on it.I was incorrectly told that they didn’t need replacement. Eventually, I consulted an independent mechanic, who confirmed they needed to be replaced and that I had been driving on worn rotors. Overall, in just a year and a half, the car has been in for repairs seven times for a number of reasons. I have had to rely on loaner vehicles five times, each for over a week, only to find the repairs were still incomplete. In my 30 years of driving, I’ve never faced such a nightmare with a car. It’s such a shame because the car is beautiful!! Regrettably, I had no choice but to trade it in for a different vehicle, and it’s not a Mercedes!

Best Ride Yet
We have owned at least one MB since 1998, 4 S class's one being an AMG. We have never had many mechanical issues other than the tires. Like most, I hate the run flat tires. Recently we had one flat in the driveway, it had a small nail in the middle of the tread. I called the dealership and asked for a tow as car was under warranty. The told me to drive it in since it was a run flat tire. My wife drove the 3 miles to the dealership expecting the tire to be repaired as the tires were almost new and nail was very small. She was told it HAD to be replaced since she drove on it at their request. $450+. How do you feel safe on a long trip if you can only drive 50 miles on a run flat tire and they are very hard to find? And there is no better way to travel than the 2019 S450 I now own. Best ride of any car I have ever owned and that is many. The massage seats are extremely comfortable on my bad back and constantly in massage mode. the car is surprisingly quick for a 6 cylinder in a big car. Very quiet on the interstate and floats. I have the max driver's assistance options and let them guide me down the road. I have had this on my last several cars but this is by far the best for letting the car drive itself. I am averaging 23mpg in town and get just under 30 mph on highway, which is about 10mpg better than the 2016 GL550 I traded in for the 2019 CPO S450 that only had 18000 miles on it and a late year sale made the CPO basic warranty extend to late Oct 2024 and I have the option of adding 2 more years of CPO to that for just over $5k, which I consider a bargain as even though I have had great luck with owning MB, the newer electronics and drivers assist options can only be fixed by MB and I will either decide before this warranty expires to go to dealer to buy another CPO S class before the warranty expires or buy the extra 2 years on this car. IMO, the best deal on the big Luxo cars are the CPO MB. I bought my wife a 2015 a few years ago that was low mileage, less than 3 years old and sticker was $134k as it had every option including the rear executive seating. The local MB dealer here was asking $62,900 as a CPO. So, the original owner took a huge hit and we got a like new car at well over a 50% discount and a warranty close to 3 years. It had some type of double air suspension option for $5k but drove no better than the 2019 S450.
The best since the sherman's of WWII-No turret
Not much in the way of dislikes - I drove the MB almost back to back w/s 750i BMW. The BMW was my favorite by a slight margin. It had AWD std. & seems faster. Both quiet & smooth. I believe the Benz would suffer severely from bear tracking in slippery conditions. This is not good for a luxury car, esp its passengers! Like the exhaust sound of the BMW when first cranked for the day.
The Mercedes is not as reliable as a Lexus LS
The Benz value drops like a lead balloon and drinks gas a lot faster then a BMW 750 I TWIN Turbo

I like the comfortable ride, the ease of steering, the dynamic cruise control, I dislike the jerky engine feeling when you are in an idle or stop position. A few times the engine stopped. It was a very frightening feeling when that happened. I took it back to a Mercedes Benz dealership, they said they couldn’t find anything wrong as to why the engine stopped.

100 Star Mercedes-Benz S-Class 450
Luxurious and comfortable!!! I am in my car 4-9 hours a day so I needed this comfy car!!!
S580
I have owned this vehicle for 4 months. I looked at cars for about 6 mos before I bought it, for the last 10 years my daily driver has been an 11 MB E-Class from which has given me great service, almost 300K miles on it. The S-Class is very nice, its Black and gets attention everywhere it goes and I mean everywhere. It has lots of tech, the ambient lights, seats are comfortable. The car is very quick but you have to make it go very quick, it prefers to be a cruiser. I've taken it on a couple road trips and you arrive at your destination feeling fresh, little or no fatigue. I normally drive the car in the comfort mode but occasionally find myself switching to sport mode, sometimes the floaty feel aint what i'm feelin. There are so many great things to say about the car but here are couple small problems with it, 1st as mentioned earlier, everthing is done via the tablets, for instance, you can adjust seat comfort a million ways but you do it on the tablet, kinda completed, sometimes when you change a setting it changes a setting you'd already set, for instance, I took the car out of town last week and before I left I had the car set to fold the mirrors when I exit the vehicle, somehow it stopped working so last night I changed it back, but when I got out the car the illuminated MB star that normally shines on the ground when I open the door wasn't there, so I had to go back to setting and turned the locator off then back on and I changed setting to fold mirror to off then back on and it started working again, quirky stuff. I've also experienced when I crank the car using the app on my phone, sometimes when I get to the car there is a strong gasoline smell in the car, it never happens when I use the push to start. I also own a CLS 550, a Porsche Boxter, an E Class and 330 BMW Vert, wife drives a 19 X5, now the X5 is sweet also, very comfy and fast. While the S is fast but you have to make it go fast with the X5 you have to make it slow down as it pulls hard.
