Overview
The 2022 Maserati MC20 is a two-seat mid-engine sports car, the first Maserati to use that layout since the MC12 nearly 20 years ago. Unlike that car, the MC20 is a bespoke Maserati product that doesn't share a platform with any existing Ferraris, though Maserati say that the MC20's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine uses parts derived from the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team. We always step into an all-new sports car with mild trepidation, but after time behind the wheel both at the track and on the street, we walked away hugely impressed.

The MC20 is fast but approachable on a racetrack thanks to a sporty-but-complaint suspension, strong brakes, and one screamer of an engine. The V6 makes lots of turbo whooshes and packs a sharp exhaust note, especially toward its lofty 8,000-rpm redline. It's chorus-like without being obnoxious. At highway speeds, road noise is prominent, and you hear every tiny pebble strike the underside of the carbon-fiber tub.
We appreciate the MC20's ride and handling, which strikes a balance between supercar performance and sports car comfort and utility. It rides well on the street and doesn't punish passengers with stiff seats and a backbreaking ride. It features all-new in-car tech too, though we found the interface frustrating at times.
In the narrow gap between sports cars and supercars, there are few vehicles that are competitive with the Maserati MC20. They include the Audi R8, Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren Artura, Mercedes-AMG GTC and Porsche 911 Turbo S. In the end, we think the 2022 Maserati MC20 is a super sports car with a dignified demeanor. It's a sexy coupe that can thrill any driver, yet it's relatively easy to live with, save for limited storage and visibility.

Which MC20 trim does Edmunds recommend?
The MC20 only comes in a single well-equipped flavor, though there are plenty of options you can add on. Besides performance options like an electronic limited-slip differential for improved traction and carbon-ceramic brakes, we suggest adding the nose lift and blind-spot monitoring, which are some real quality-of-life features. Springing for the MC20 Master driver training course probably wouldn't hurt either.
