The good: better ride, more supple and softer suspension with improved cornering abitity, better appearance inside and out, plenty of important standard features. mpg is good for class, I average 28-30 back and forth to work. Power is superb and instant. The bad: stereo sucks!! 95% of sound comes from front speakers no matter what you do. One time transmission slammed so hard in reverse I honestly thought I crashed into the car parked in front of me. It was that loud! When you want power transmission often shifts down too many gears. Acoustic glass not available on base ES. Come on lexus! the base chrysler 300 and avalon comes standard with it! Not kidding here folks..the rear side glass is much thinner than the front..why you ask? to save $$. No wonder it sounds a bit louder towards the rear while driving. Touch controller is an ongoing issue with lexus. no problem since I do adjustments before I drive. Overall though my car "base model" is better than my 2017 in most respects..a bit quieter, sleeker, more comfortable ride, more power.

Great vehicle- best value for luxury car

Great car- my third ES and just as good as MB E350 I owned previously. Plus I don’t have to pay $350 for an oil change. Quiet, smooth and the gas mileage is incredible for a medium size V6. Plus, not paying for premium gas.

F-Sport avoids looking like your grandparents car

2020 Lexus ES 350 F SPORT 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 8A)

Started leasing an F Sport ES 350 in Feb of 2020. Was a bit of an impulse buy. Was driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 before that had loads of service issues. While the 300 was very comfortable, it would lean too much in turns and was just boring to drive compared to this car. The F-Sport gets dinged for not having more powerful engine, but the 302 HP is plenty unless you want to race high horsepower opponents on a regular basis. It is front wheel drive which might bother some, but it hasn't impacted daily driving experience in my opinion. The car will get up and go, especially in Sport Mode. Car slides down the freeway at 85 mph with tachometer at less than 1800 RPM. The best part of the car is the handling. The tuned suspension makes going around curves and turning at speed feel solid and confident.... always! Brakes are good, never nervous about getting from 60 mph to 0. It is a very nice balance of being tight but not rigid. I bought this car instead of a 2017 Mercedes CLS 550 due to back seat issues. The Benz was essentially a coupe with tight seating in back for smaller individuals. I'm 6'3 and usually that means the back seat behind the driver seat is useless. This car can comfortably fit a grown family of 4 in it for a longer trip. Head and leg room in the back is excellent. Front driving position is good, but could use a little more leg room if I am splitting hairs. B pillar does impede vision for me with seat moved back fully. Interior is generally very nice. The gauges on the F-sport and brushed aluminum around the dash give it a tech-aggressive feel that I like. The upgrade to the high end stereo would have been nice, but it required changing the head lamp configuration to small LED lights which are not as attractive as the base head lamps in my opinion. It was also a $2800 package upgrade. Only complaints about this car are that the standard stereo. When all windows are up, the surround features work well, but it needs to be louder when driving at speed with sunroof open, windows down. Also, to use the Apple Car Play need to plug into the jacks in front of shifter. Cord has to travel back to arm rest from there. There is a phone slot in front of jacks, but doesn't work with larger screen phones. Would have been nice if that jack was in arm rest. Agree with comments about the touch pad; it isn't great when driving. Not tactile/ specific enough. Have to spend more time looking at screen and fiddling with it than you should be when in motion. Outside of that, you might have to get used to the newer body lines (I did) when considering this car, but the car has good width and length dimensions. It has more presence than an Accord, Nissan, or Infinity which tend to be rather narrow. Stance could be a little more aggressive, but overall this car delivers if you want something that is comfortable, quiet, with a little edge. I think the standard model of this car suffers from the smaller wheels and the more standard instrumentation when sitting inside it. You would also miss out on the improved suspension of the F-Sport, which is no small matter if you are looking for a driver's car. It is a very fun car to drive and spend time in during your daily commute. Love the reliability so far and customer service of Lexus. It will be hard to shift gears to another brand once this lease expires.

New 2021 ES 350 One Month In

This car, when bought right, is an excellent value. Reasonable price can be negotiated for a whole lot of car. Dealers are very flexible in discounting the price of these cars and Lexus tossed in a generous $2,000 rebate to boot. It finally came down to this car or BMW. Couldn’t tolerate that Automatic Stop Start feature on the Euro-Lux cars. Also don’t care for the harsher ride of their run flat tires and the inability to repair the run-flats. The Lexus eliminated all those negatives and provided an incredibly smooth ride and iron-clad, trouble-free reliability level absent on so many of the European brands. Very pleased with our new car one month and 450 miles in. Unhappy with two shortcomings. First, the Apple Car Play is not wireless. To use it, a cable is required right in the middle of the front of cabin. BMW is wireless. Even Buick is wireless! On a car of this level, there should not be cables visible in the cabin. Second, ventilation of the ventilated front seats is weak and tepid. The air used to ventilate the seats is not actually cooled. It’s simply cabin temperature air recirculated through the seats. I was expecting cooled air as provided in many other luxury cars. The seat heaters are fine. No road noise, beautiful upholstery, more than adequate standard sound system. Lexus cargo net is small and overpriced. Extra bonus: for most drivers, regular gas will do the trick. SIX MONTHS have passed since delivery of Lexus. Still very pleased. Excellent value. The car is well made, hopefully perfectly reliable and delivers all it promises. I’m glad I bought it. Now: 1.5 years of ownership. Perfect performance. No problems. Still very pleased. Predict this car to perform flawlessly over the long haul. Ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) is taken for granted. In this day and age of radical change and price escalation in the car market, I consider this car a safe harbor of reliability and safety. Sadly, I expect it and the other few remaining 6 cylinder ICE sedans like it, to vanish forever from the market over the next few years.

Mixed feelings after a year

JustinS, 08/27/2021
2020 Lexus ES 350 Luxury 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 8A)
13 of 13 people found this review helpful

I purchased a 2020 ES 350 Luxury in June 2020 and sold it just over a year later in August 2021. This review will give you my impressions based on approximately a year of ownership and 14,000 miles of driving. THE GOOD: * Comfortable - the car was extremely comfortable no matter which seat you were in. Front seats were incredible and back seats have so much leg room and head room, you feel like you’re in the LS and being chauffeured around. * Quiet - This car was dead silent when driving. The Luxury trim brings dual pane front windows, and I had the 18” noise reduction wheels. Anyone who rode in the car commented on how quiet it was. * Smooth driving experience - This car does a fantastic job isolating you from the day-to-day road imperfections. * Quick acceleration - I enjoy a nice quick car, and I always felt the ES had more than enough power. * Peace of mind in knowing that it “should be” mechanically reliable long-term. This engine has been around for a long time. Lexus IS known for reliability. I knew if I wanted to keep this car for 10+ years it would be perfectly fine. * Mark Levinson - Sound was really great when tuned correctly, with audio plugged in via USB, and volume up loud. If these weren’t the case, I found something a little bit off with the speakers compared to the Mark Lev systems I’ve had in other Lexus models (with the most recent being in a 2018 RX Hybrid, which sounded better to me even though the specs aren’t technically as good). 12 inch screen - this is a must-have in my opinion. The standard screen makes the car feel outdated whereas this was a bright, modern screen. I actually did not mind the touch pad and lack of touch screen whatsoever. * Luxury trim features were well worth the upgraded price. These included driver’s seat thigh extender, power rear sunshade, more details on seats and armrests, softer material on back of seats, additional wood trim, etc.) * No need for premium fuel. This car takes and recommends regular gas. * Maintenance costs were low. Other than the fit and finish issues that were all under warranty, I only paid for the standard 5k, 10k and 15k mile services. THE BAD: * Rattles - this car had rattles in both front doors and the dealership had to address them multiple times. When I traded the car in, it still had a rattle. They kept coming back. * Center armrest console - This thing creaks really bad when you lean on it. It drove me nuts. Also, the passenger seat was much too close to the armrest and whenever I would go around a corner or bend in the road, and I had a passenger, the seat leather would rub against the center armrest and make an annoying sound. I’ve never seen this on a car before. * Cupholders - The way the front cupholders are designed is terrible. The one closest to the dashboard is just fine, but the second cupholder closer to the driver was more of a square shape and my drinks (water bottle, or a cup from a restaurant) would also slide or slightly tip over. There’s also a button to expose or hide a plastic piece to control the depth but I always found it either too deep or too short and resulting in the drinks tipping over even more often. * Rear seats don’t fold flat. You’re basically limited to just the standard trunk and no way to accommodate larger items. * Dashboard easily scuffed - I’m not sure what material Lexus is using in this model but the slightest impact with the dashboard just above the glovebox resulted in scuff marks. It was so bad that even taking a brand new microfiber cloth to wipe dust off would scuff it. This is very common on the forums and there’s no fix. * Head-up display appeared crooked and blurry no matter how much I adjusted the rotation or position. I realized this was due to the windshield angle/design and the HUD was actually perfectly aligned, but this was frustrating being that HUD was one feature I loved in my previous 2018 RX 450h. Overall, I would give this car three out of five stars. It was a comfortable car and I know we will see these on the road for YEARS without issue, but I couldn’t get past the imperfections and I felt it was lacking personality on the outside.

This Automobile easily beats out a Mercedes E 350

I owned a MB E550 AWD and that car was a bit over 85,000 optioned as I wanted it. I took delivery of a 2021 ES 350 Ultra Luxury with every available option except AWD which I do not require given where I live now. The fit and finish is as good as Mercedes and any other fine automobile. The pure luxury inside is unsurpassed in any vehicle in this price range of $55,000 up to and including the MB. The ride is ultra quiet and smooth but gives the driver a solid feel for the road. If this very automobile were to be re badged and presented as a Mercedes they could slap an $80,000 price tag on it and no one would give it a second thought.

Serene and Engaging

Loyal Lexus Driver, 03/05/2020

The 2020 Lexus ES offers a near perfect driving experience. This car allows you to be perfectly insulated from surroundings, but driver engaged at the same time. Excellent handling and the lane assist keeps you perfectly in lane, even around curves. The Bridgestone Turanza tires could be less roll-resistant but are quiet and comfortable. The seats are very comfortable - perforated Nu-luxe man-made leather is as comfortable as real leather. I'd prefer a bit wider front seat - they must have taken an inch off to allow the center console to have more storage - it opens from either side! The driver seat front surface is a little too firm - sort of like an exercise ball, but you sink into the seat comfortably and it offers lots of adjustments to help with long drives (passenger as well). The often criticized touch pad can be adjusted by the dealer and is easy and accurate to use after the adjustment. I suspect Lexus did away with acoustic windshield as you can barely hear the wipers - not so in prior model. One especially new feature is the cruise control does not shut off if you slow to a crawl - it remains engaged - nice improvement. Mirrors self close with the Premium package or higher - a nice feature if you park in a small garage. The standard Pioneer 10 speaker stereo is crystal clear with great sound in the front but virtually no sound in the rear - making the surround sound a near impossibility. Lexus will have to improve the one weak rear speaker in the trunk. The interior and exterior are innovative and beautiful and the wrap around optional wood reminds me of the high end Lexus Models and the Jaguar XJ, costing much more . The paint is self sealing - something not available from many competitors; I’d suggest looking at eminent white pearl and also nightfall mica (dark blue) in direct sunlight to experience the amazing color changes - they have to be seen to be believed. car, rated a very high 87 by a major consumer organization, is a very good value and provides an exceptional ridership experience.

Replace 2017 Lexus ES350 with a 2021 Lexus ES350

900 Miles in a day with my 2020 ES350 F Sport

I took delivery of a 2020 ES350 F Sport about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love the interior and the Mark Levenson audio system. The acceleration reminds me of my Benz E350 and the profile of the car looks so nice. Did I mention that it is the quietist car I've ever driven. Last Friday, I drove 900 Miles in 14 hrs from Michigan to Boston in my ES350 and it is such a joyful trip. I took advantages of the radar cruise control and lane centering function to do a lot of semi-automatic highway driving and then listened to my music and podcast along the way. I can't believe that I ended up with 35 MPG using 87 regular gas. Initially, I was a little concerned about the seat since it is harder than a regular ES350. However, at the end, it has been very comfortable! Can't say enough about the good things about ES350. Love it!

I just bought an ES Luxury and it drives ok; however, in Texas with the sunshine the windshield becomes a mirror and makes it a hard to see the road when the sun is shinning brightly. The windshield wipers don't go all the way - leave surplus on the windshield. I am really disappointed in it as this is my 6 lexus. When you stop and start up again the transmission jerks. The FWD sounds like the tires are coming loose. I have to put a cover over the front windshield to prevent the sunshine mirroring.

This is a great car but the emergency brake sensors ruin your brakes and rotors. Service tried to say it was from hard breaking. Nope because I have NEVER had to replace any of the brakes on any of my precious owned vehicles. $1600 later!

Long time Lexus ES Owner a bit disappointed

Long time Lexus Owner, 07/21/2020
2020 Lexus ES 350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 8A)
33 of 39 people found this review helpful

This is our fifth ES. As the models have changed over the last 13 years the console design and storage has continually gotten worse. Leaving no place for sunglasses; top deck USB ports that interfere with what little space is provided and if you get the wireless phone charger option it takes up valuable console storage space. A poor interior design with little to no emphasis on delivering a stylish console with well designed and ample storage. The radio in the 2020 ES is not very good. The 2017 ES audio system blows the 2020 away; can't imagine what the Lexus engineers were thinking with this significant downgrade in base system sound quality. They have also eliminated the names of the XM stations on the display, even with the the over-sized screen. A car in this luxury class should have a base audio system that is simply outstanding as it was prior to 2019 model year, versus being the subject of numerous complaints. The emphasis starting with the 2019 ES moved to 'Sporty', which resulted in the car sitting lower and being less comfortable for short drivers, and is harder to get in and out of for all passengers. The smooth luxury sedan feel that the 2017 had is gone. Lastly the transmission is no longer silky smooth, now with hesitation upon acceleration from a stop.

After having a "17 and "19 ES 350's let me say that none come close to my ultra lux version. For whatever reason it is much quieter and absorbs bumps better even with the larger/wider 18" tires. The noise reducing wheels substantially reduces bump impact noise. It has laminated glass to further enhance the low noise of this vehicle. No squeaks or rattles and fit/finish are almost perfect with the exception of the front bumper to front fender as it wont form a nice smooth circular arch. That and the glass roof wind noise at highway speeds, a bad shock on a brand new car, thin door panel sheet metal that vibrates/flexes/moves when closing doors and thinner rear side window glass are my only and probably trivial complaints.

I purchased a 2020 Es 350 new since than the vehicle with less than 5k miles had to have the entire front brakes replace because it was shaking when I apply the brakes. Also the entire safety system fail at 4K and the dealership had it for a month trying to figure out how to fix it after a month it still wasn’t operating 100%. Father more at 75 miles per hour when turning their a shaking sensation. The moral of the story is this car look good but have issues which have not been fix, I believe the Audi A6 have this car beat by a mile performance wise and reliability it’s sad I own four of them and the 2020 looks nice however doesn’t drive like it looks.

My 2012 Lexus LS 460 was in the shop and the dealership gave me a 2020 ES350 as a loaner. It's not a bad car, I'd probably never buy a new one given it's just a more nicely appointed Toyota Camry/Avalon. Coming from the Lexus LS 460, I immediately notice: 1) The quality and weight of the switches and buttons is lower. 2) The doors rattle a bit when they close hard. 3) The driver seat is flat, narrow, hard, and the bottom cushion is also pretty short (I'm not particularly tall and have an average build.) Two-way adjustable lumbar support is disappointing. I wouldn't want to take this car on long trips. 4) The base stereo is atrocious, just inexcusable in a car this expensive. 5) Backseat space is surprisingly close to my short wheel-base LS. As for the drive, apart from the seats themselves, it's smooth but unremarkable. This definitely corners better than my LS. The V6 engine is peppy but coarse and the transmission unrefined. It's quiet and the suspension is well dampened until you hit an expansion joint or something similar with the eco run-flats. The steering is tighter than in my LS but not particular linear. I found the front wheels jerking a bit more than I expected when turning moderately hard. I do like the size of the steering wheel (smaller) here better than the LS. All in all, glad I got this as a loaner but wouldn't ever consider buying a used one without the Ultra Luxury package and the Mark Levinson stereo upgrades.

Purchased the Lexus ES 350 F sport with the adaptive suspension, and I couldn’t be happier. Seats are unbelievably comfortable, the ride is smooth, and the car looks sleek and sporty with 19 inch wheels. Plenty of trunk space. I was under the assumption that when the car is in Eco mode, it wouldn’t have very much torque. That’s not the case with this car. I was surprised at the “get up and go“ in Eco mode. The mouse pad is a bit tedious, and takes some getting used to. Information screen is beautiful. All in all, I would say to anyone that is shopping for a Mercedes or BMW: give this car a test drive. Luxury and sport packed into one, and priced reasonably to boot.

Built In Kentucky With Pride

Full disclosure - I am from Kentucky lol. Awesome how you can have such a stellar automobile built in the states that competes steadily as firmly with European mid range sedans (MB E, BMW 5, Audi A6) Regular Gas makes a big difference, silky smooth V6 that’s powerful with 300 horses. Excellent build quality and fit and finish. Honestly, and this may upset or surprise you..this car and Lexus in general is better than money pit German sedans ..criticism...Nav should be standard, CarPlay should be wireless and the multi view camera also standard - those improvements would perfect the sedan

This is still a great vehicle, but they've traded some serenity for style (what sells?). The sharp edges and low-profile tires are not optimal for a quiet cabin. The tires start to produce road noise once you have 5k+ miles on them and, if you tend to exceed 65 MPH like I do, you will hear wind noise from the side windows that was pretty much non-existent in the older, more rounded, models. My son is driving our older 2007 model and I actually find that to be a little quieter/more serene.

Pros; the Ride...., comfort, quiet and smooth. Dependability, It's a Lexus--I could easily drive this car 15 years and over 200,000 miles. Quality; The materials and craftsmanship of the interior are extraordinary. Gas mileage; I have been averaging 25 MPG...impressive considering I have 302 horsepower at my command. Cons; size.....The ES is small in a lot of ways. Trunk and glove compartment both small. Also don't care that the USB ports are on center console,(hate having wire showing and heck, in the way. Wish it had a glasses storage,(many times my sunglasses are just laying on passenger seat). A Great car that happens to be a bit "small" in many ways.

We bought 2021 ES350 Base with Premium, BSM and Navigation Packages which gave us 12-inch display but somewhat awkward interface. ES350 ride is as luxury as we expected it to be. V6 is strong enough to accelerate. We are satisfied with the quality of the car and price value.

I have been fortunate to be able to own and drive Lexus 350 ES sedans since 1998. Toyota motor manufacturers has exceeded the pace of all competitors in terms of technology, safety; reliability, luxury, comfort, and price - a lot of value for your dollar. The 2020 is the best I have own! Oh what a feeling!!!

This is a top notch automobile for a quiet luxury ride. It's comfortable front and rear. There's a lack of space to store your phone and other small objects like sunglasses although the console and glove box are spacious enough. The standard stereo is called premium audio. It sounds very good but is not really in the league of high end audio. I'm sure if you want to spend the high price for the MarkLevinson system you'll be more than pleased. After owning the car a year now, I have to say that I would have gotten the luxury model instead of the sportier F Sport I've ridden in both and the regular suspension definitely has a smoother ride.

An easy smooth drive with great handling and acceleration. Takes some getting used to the touch pad on the console, and wish it had more cup holders up front. Seats are very comfortable and both the front and backseats have plenty of legroom.

This is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned - and I have owned many. However, this is my first luxury car. The ride is quiet and smooth and it has all of the bells and whistles one could want except navigation. However, for navigation, I use Android Auto that came with my Lexus ES350. Some of the extra features are cooled and heated front seats, heated steering wheel, programmable adjustable seats and steering wheel, side view mirrors that fold in with the push of a button, adaptable cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, Satellite radio, SOS button for roadside assistance, and many other features. I bought this car certified with only 5K miles on it. My warranty is good until February 2026 with unlimited mileage! I anticipate a great resale value.
