Used 2006 Jeep Commander Consumer Reviews
I Love My Jeep So Far!
I have only had my Jeep for a little less than a month, but I am enjoying it a lot. It only has 20,000 miles and it's a V6 AWD, and that has plenty of power as far as I am concerned. I am getting about 16 mpg, and that is way better than our Suburban (what I was driving) and as good or better than many mid-size SUVs, such as Explorers. I love the way the Jeep drives, I drove an '06 BMW X5 before and I think the Jeep drives just as great!!!! I would definitely recommend a used one if you can find a good deal, mine was only $14900, that is way better than buying a new one! As for being an 18 y-o with his first car, I feel very save in it, especially with all those airbags.
Love it
So i just bought a 06 Commander used. Its the 3.7L. I love it, except for the gas mileage. My co-worker has the 4.7L and gets better gas mileage. I think part of the reason is because it takes a lot less effort for the V8 to move the vehicle then it does he V6. If i could buy again I would get the V8. Otherwise, I love it

the new Jeep
Very fun car; not great on gas, great design! Front seats are very comfortable. Limited 2nd row/3rd row only good for kids.
The Good, Bad and Hard to Deal With
During our first month of ownership we drove our Commander across the country. We drove from Washington, DC to Yellowstone Park. The Commander gave us a great ride with poor gas milage even on the highway and the gas tank is too small for the Jeep. You can't get 300 miles out of the small tank. We averaged over 8 hours a day driving time and didn't feel the fatiuge that we have with other cars on this typa of trip. Over all we like the Commander and that is why we purchsed a second one.
Fun to drive
Except for the gas mileage, I'm totally in love with my Commander. It handles great in any condition, and it just feels like a luxurious vehicle on the inside. I love the way it looks on the outside...not cutesy or overly "tough" like the Hummers. I did have to take it in twice already, though. First was to fix the whistling noise, it was a something about the seal of the front windshield, and was done for free, and the back windshield wiper broke because of a cheap plastic part. Be careful with the back wiper...it breaks easily if you pull it out to change the blade like any other wiper. Overall, I love my Jeep, but if gas keeps going up I may have to get a cheap fuel efficient car.
