Used 2006 Jeep Commander Consumer Reviews
Great SUV
This vehicle is fantastic. The styling is timeless and it gets a lot of attention when I drive it. Interior (saddle brown) is gorgeous and very comfortable. Lots of room inside but the back legroom lacks a little. All gauges and switches are conveniently placed. This truck handles very well for almost 5,000 lbs. and the hemi has good power. Fun features are automatic wipers, headlights and Sirius radio. All in all a great truck and I highly recommend it.
First Jeep
Wow, This is our first Jeep and compared to other SUV styles for size and price the Commander won hands down. We were looking for a car for my wife to haul kids and groceries. It took us several months and drove a lot of cars before deciding on this SUV. After a test-drive my wife and I really loved the car. We both knew this was "the" car. This car is just right for a family of four and the occasional neighbor kids and friends.

Very Disappointing
We had an ongoing issue with the engine stalling out. All 4 brake routers warped in the first 18 months. Needed a full brake job with 14,000 miles on it. Nothing was covered. Many electronic items have quirks; seat memory, outside temp, and others. Have replaced the windshield 3 times in 26 months for cracks from road stones. It seems to catch them all.
Windshield noise & engine quits
Has been at the dealer 5 times for wind noise coming thru the windshield at high speeds. Applying for the Lemon Law to have Jeep replace the vehicle. Motor has cut off several times, taken to the dealer twice.
The Jeep I was waiting for
As a previous owner of an XJ Cherokee, I am partial to the boxy styling. The Commander is what XJs should grow up to become. I have the HEMI. Bought it used with 38K. Has the comfort and ride of a luxury car, but has the power of a sports car. I needed more comfort, room and power and boy did I get it. While there are some squirrelly issues with it, I think it is nit picking. Any major issues have been addressed with TSBs or recalls. Know that any enormous SUV will have bad gas mileage. That aside, this is another keeper for me for some time. Do your homework if you want one, and just pony up for the HEMI. I would not buy new - buy used and take advantage of the depreciation.
