Timeless styling, Luxury, in a small package
I own a J30t that has been my daily driver for 4years now. Very reliable, sturdy handling and strong powertrain. The car is esthetically very pleasing yet I can't help feeling like I'm driving Grandmas car. I meant to buy the Q45 4 years ago and got impatient for one to come along for $5000. I bought the J30t with 59000 k miles in perfect condition and so far its proved to be a very reliable car. No problems except for the factory stereo went out but I replaced with new stereo that's compatible with the factory Bose speakers. Dash light switch is querky, and I had to replace a relay in the Headlights because one night they just randomly started blinking off and on.
Classic luxury sedan, high build quality
I've loved J30s since they came out. I bought my J from its original owner who took very good care of it. It has a beautiful interior with high quality materials. I've heard some people say these cars are like Maximas, but they are definitely of a higher caliber with respect to fit and finish, ride, and noise level. The engine and trans are very smooth with adequate power. The ride is smooth and comfortable. I have not had to do anything other than regular maintenance.

Good car, bad problems
I bought my j30 from a one time owner who maintenanced every 2-3 weeks. (I know it sounds ridiculous but he had all the receipts). It's a wonderful car, and it's in pretty good condition. But as with all cars, time wears them out. The problem there is the cost of everything. (these are what I paid at the time, may be different) 80 dollars for a rebuilt waterpump, 600 for the labor. Also have had problems with the stereo, 1100 for the plugs, brakes, and struts. Overall car is good and has lasted well. If regularly maintained and taken care of, it's fairly decent. Just a few minor issues with electrical things, but long lasting vehicle for sure.
Frequent problem
I love my infiniti, I bought it with 115000 miles. When I got it it would not run in cold weather or rain, I replaced the Temp Idle sensor located next to the the thermostat, took care of it. Previous owner said he spent 1200.00 trying to fix the problem with dealer, never got it fixed, so he sold it for $1000.00. Great investment.
14 Years of Reliability
Bought J30 in 2000 w/80K miles. Mileage concerned me, but test drive hooked me. Felt solid, expensive, & fast. Now 14 years old with 170K miles on it. Mechanically, has not spent a day in the shop other than oil changes. Most reliable car I've ever owned. Had to know if 150mph speedo was fluff, so one time I took it up to 140 mph and it didn't miss a beat with the 300Z engine. Very impressive. Only flaws: rear end will break loose on you if you corner too aggressively, and isn't worth a hoot in snow (needs sandbags in the trunk in the winter). Sunroof failed so I sealed it shut. Auto door locks and dash lights malfunction occasionally. Exceptional build quality & no body rust. Keep forever.
Great buy
I purchased my J30t about two weeks ago, and I must say I've been very impressed with it thus far. I've read a lot of the reviews on the car and many of the problems items talked about in the other reviews...i.e., tranny, radio, had already been replaced by the previous owner. It's a great car.. I got it for just over 5 grand. The styling is great..really sharp for a ca as old as it is. It still turns heads. It's jet black and chromed out. I put 18 inch rims on it along with toyo tires. And I must say it looks even meaner.
my car
Ive had absolutely no problems with this car. I would recommend it to my FATHER!!!
Is it "All that?"
I have owned my Infiniti J30 for 5 years now. Thank goodness I got the extended warranty when I got it. Whew!!! It needed major tranny work, but it was covered. In addition, thanks to the warranty, I got new shocks on the car. When I purchased it there was 44k on the clock. Now that all of that was corrected....This car has been running like "butter" ever since, and I have not experienced any other problems. Over all....Excellent automobile.
Great Car
I purchased my J with 100K miles and she now has 130k miles. This car offers a great ride, great performance and a very nice interior at a great price, people constantly mistake it for a 30,000$ car (nice feeling). Alot of people complain about reliability of the car. It is true that the car is plagued by many small electrical problems such as dash dimmer, side mirrors, CD player and a few others. However, the transmission mostly fails in areas with very warm weather. Up north it is rare for transmission problems to occur with the j30. Heat will decide if the transmission will last 60K miles or 200K miles. The car is a very good buy and is well worth the few electrical problems it has.
J30 - A Gem
I have been driving my "J" since April of 1997 and no other car compares to the feel or looks of this car, for me. I've had it to 100mph and feeling like a cruise at 50mph. The "J's", in my view, started it all, for the Japanese luxury cars, and that includes Lexus. I've had the "tranny" replaced which was problematic, locally, but Nissan came through. I intend to fix all problems (sunroof; stereo; body- work/paint) and keep it another 4 years, hopefully. They nailed it calling this a "personal" luxury car...Bose almost makes it happen, alone. They should bring the "J" back. It's a "Gem", and, reminds me of the big Buicks of the early to mid 60s, brand new. I'm very glad I own it.
Great car
I have owned a 93 Infiniti since 1998. When I bought it I had the dealer to replace the sunroof motor and detail it. I had to replace the transmission (with a used one) at about 115,000. Went out on a hottttttt day (about 100 degrees). No warning. Was running fine then would not pull at all. Since I went used, I got this done for around $1000 (vs the $6,000 quoted by the dealer). The only other problems I have had are that the radio lights don't always work, and the left rear window switch has quit working. Other than that it is a great car. I now have 133,000 miles on it and it runs great and looks great.
The Best
I bought this car 5 years ago from a friends parents in high school, it had 155677 miles on it and i paid $500 for it. it was a total steal! My sunroof and keyless entry stopped working in 2008 but a new battery in the remote and some fresh grease on the tracks of the roof and it all worked great again. they were the only problems i had with the car other than routine repairs. The car now has over 293,000 miles on it, and the only thing that doesn't work is the original cd player, but the speakers and the rest of the Bose radio still work perfect! the exterior of the car still looks brand new and has never been garage kept. The interior is also in beautiful condition.
best qualtiy car I ever owned
My J30t has been such a pleasure to own and drive that I am having trouble finding a good reason to move on to my next car, although the new G35 really wets my appetite. It could be the first car that I think is worth the sticker price.
expensive repairs
I love this car, but not the repair costs! Sunroof Motor (100k and $1700), left door window motor (105k and $450), Timing Chain (98k and &700). Now it needs struts and they are $386 each before labaor costs! I love the way it looks, handles and rides. For a used luxury car, it still looks luxurious. Held up well for 10 years. I would not buy another one, though.
J30 4 dr sedan
I have owned a 93 Infiniti since 1996. I had to replace the sunroof which simply got stuck one day. Also the radio just went out don't know if tht is part of the electrical system malfunctions or what but makes you suspiscious after looking at other reviews. The front driver side window switch has quit working and I had problems with the ignition sticking and had to have the starter replaced both of those under dealer warranty. Other than that it is a great car. I now have 149,000 miles on it and it runs great.
Nice car but has some problems
I've had my J30t for about 6 months. I loved the car from the very beginning , especially it's interior design - just wonderful. But as I drove the car more and more I had too many "small" problems with the car. The biggest of those was engine hesitation when hot and rough transmission shifting. Smaller ones included unoperable suroof and malfunctioning door locks. Buyers beware of the sunroof problem - it is guaranteed yours will get broken unless it's been fixed before. Also the tranny/engine problem never got me stuck, but forced me to sell this beautiful machine. It was sad...
I love my J
This car has been one of my all time favorites. I like the way it looks,it's been very reliable, and it rides and handles very well. The only drawbacks are a small trunk and winter driving in the snow is not good with rear wheel drive.
Wonderful
I have had my J since 99'. I bought it with 97,000 miles, and I now have 123 g's on it. I have had ZERO problems with it mechanically. I just had my routine maint. done, and that set me back $1100 dollars. Other than the CD player which has been fixed 3 times, this car rocks!!
I like the car
I like it. it handels well, has a big engine, is very reliable, and looks like a jag.
hmmm.....
I bought my J30 about 6 months ago from a dealer. The car has a great look, very stylish and sleak. However, about 2 months after I boutght it, there were huge hesitation problems. There was a crack in the exhaust manifold, and the camshaft was warn badly ($2800)@ 114k. Also my dashboard lights and right headlight do not always work. It's kinda embarrasing when you have a lady in your car and the dash lights don't come on.
My First Car!
This car handles very well. In fact it handles better than any car i have ever drove.
j30 great used car
I really like the car and the prestige associated with all Infinitis. It is still quiet after 100k and everthing still works very well. Albeit, you must bang the rotating dimmer switch to get the lights on the dash to glow and I keep catching the leather b- pillar cover on entry.
reliable transportation
this car is very reliable since i had it i kept the maintaince up every 3 months i have replaced the fuel pump and redid the brakes other than that i have had no problems
Can't believe the bad reviews
I bought my J nearly 9 years ago, used, with almost 39,000 miles on it and have driven it low mileage ever since, but it is THE BEST car I've ever owned. Had a problem w/ the sun roof, but bitched to Nissan and they reimbursed me half. Doesn't get great mileage, but I like to punch it. Stereo is awesome. Recently replaced the tranny, but that's the ONLY repair outside of the roof and normal wear and tear--oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. I DO, however, take good care of her. Don't think the unhappy owners would lie, but I'm astounded by their dissatisfaction. The J is, in a word, awesome, and it's too bad they don't make cars of this quality now.
Stay away from these
I bought this thing with 36000 miles on it and it spent at least 4 days a month in the shop for the next 6 months. By the way never buy anything from Bob Moore Infiniti in Okla City. When I took the car in for the 6th time they were running diagnostics on the engine and the engine shorted out the computer and blew it up and the onboard computer. They finally decised I didn't need to pay for that one and they had to replace most everything. The interior quality and the electronics stink! I've had more problems than I have had with any other car. I'll never have another Infiniti!!
Great Car, Cheap toy
My J30 has been the best car I have ever owned! The only problems are that I have to help push the sunroof open, and pull it closed. Also my door locks have a mind of their own. I couldn't tell you how many times I have locked my keys in my car because of them. Also, my headlamp cord is very cheap. I have to jiggle with the dimmer switch to make my dash light work, and the driver's side arm-rest is worn greatly. It may seem like a lot, but even though all of those things go wrong sometimes, the car is a great machine and I LOVE IT!!
Excellent Value
When it was time for a "new" car, my wife found this one at the local dealer where we purchased our last 2 "new" cars. I wasn't too crazy about the look of the J at first, but I was sold after the test drive. And after 5 months of ownership, I have really bonded with this car. Quite simply, this is one of the nicest driving cars I have EVER driven. Even at 11 years old, the J feels more solid than most new cars.
thought this was a car to last
Bought car from old couple with only 80k miles and thought I could give it to my son to take to school. To much power for a 19 year old so I drive it. Best thing I did because this car just falls a part and I can not think what would happen with a young driver. Steering,Transmission,Radio, sun roof motor, air bag light, and car was designed for someone less than 5'10". Seats poor and make back hurt. 91K now trying to sell and no one even calls. Word must be out wish I knew what others must know. Need my Mazda Protege w/ 250000 miles on it that had original clutch that two male 16 years learned to drive on and put he last 30k miles on it. Note: had all service records from dealer.
Awesome Car
I've read all the reviews and was amazed, because I have mine for almost 4-5 years, it is one of the finest cars ever made. I bought it used in 2000 and enjoyed ever since. I own 5 cars, but this one is my favorite for long driving. I burned transmission, but it is only because of my style of driving, luxury car that CAN MAKE DONUTS!!! It is just so much fun driving it. All friends just in love with riding in the back. Also BOSE makes difference in experience. Not best miles/gallon, who cares for such awesome car. Style, design, a lot of power in one package! Highly recommended. Even though it is 11 years old, I'll keep it just for fun.
Excellent used vehicle.
I purchased my J30 in 2000 (it is a 1993 model) and when asked what year it is, people can't believe it because it still looks sharp as a tack! It only had 34,000 miles on it when I purchased it and I must admit I only now have approx. 93,500. Aside from things that may go wrong with it from time to time in the future because of age, I don't want to get rid of my car. I don't think that the retail value comes close to what the vehicle is worth to me. I had to get the radio repaired once and it seems to be having problems again, but the thing cranks and sounds great. The arm rest material gave a long time ago and I decided to have them redone with cloth material.
I can't believe it.. exc. car
I needed a car badly, I found my 1993 J30 with 211000 miles on it for under $2000. I thought what the heck, i will use it for few month and throw it away, I drove it 10,000 miles in just two month, drove to FL three times and to NY. I can not believe how good this car. now with 223000 miles, no oil leaks, no problems what so ever.. yes sunroof stopped working and headlight (RIGHT) has a mind of its own,, but u can complain. why buy a used honda when U can have all this power and comfort for same price.. Thank you Nissian.
1993 Infiniti J30 review
Having owned my Infiniti for three years, I've found it to be fun to drive, but unreliable. Inside, the cabin is well isolated from the outside, but road and engine noise are very noticeable. For me, the seats are poorly shaped and too hard, making long trips unpleasant. Headroom is barely adequate, and foot room is mediocre, especially on the passenger side. Performance, however, is excellent. The engine is powerful and refined, and handling is very good around corners. The auto-temp climate control system works well, and the Bose sound system is top-notch.
J30t Personal Review
This is an exceptional car at an exceptional value if purchased used. Ride in comfort and confidence while listening to the high quality Bose system, and taking in all of those looks from other car owners. Even at ten years old, this car is still in style. People ask me,"what year model is this?" When I reply 1993, usually the response is,"really, what year is it?" You can actually FEEL the quality build of this vehicle.Very satisfied.
I like the car
I like it. it handels well, has a big engine, is very reliable, and looks like a jag.
great car
this is a wonderful and reliable automobile.
93 J-30t
I bought one of these used and the seller lied to me about the transmission -- it started having problems at 72K miles. I made the mistake of letting AAMCO fix it because they offered a lifetime warranty -- big mistake. It ran like a GM after that. ALso a few problems with AAMCO -- they mumble something about $1500 when you take it in then it's $2500 when they get it pulled out -- be careful. Mine failed the first day I got it back -- after 2 weeks. The next one -- which took another 2 weeks only lasted a year. I also had an AC leak they never could find though the NIssan people nearly broke me looking for it.
Fun car, but not without problems
I bought a black 93 J30 about 2 years ago for $11,000. Great car for the price. I love the way it drives. Good balance between handling and filtering bumps. Comfortable interior. Strong engine. Transmission is smooth once car warms up. I love the exterior design, especially in Black. Prefer the 93 rims. However, there are numerous problems that seem to be common to this vehicle. Bose system head (made by Clarion) broke. About $200 to fix. Faulty headlight dimmer caused dash lights to go out ($200). Sunroof sticks. No major repairs. Not great in snow. Recommend if you don't mind a few trips to a good mechanic.
Great vehicle, small Issues
Bought this 15 year old car recently w/low mileage of 98k. Aged beautifully inside and out. Pros: nice handling, smooth ride, looks and feels luxurious. Cons: seats not comfy for long rides, repairs are expensive though luckily not many needed. There are some minor issues. Sunroof doesn't work and we won't bother to replace the motor, the cd player has intermittent issues though in all fairness this is a 15 year old vehicle and both of these are almost to be expected. The main problem that seems is the intermittent dash light outage which is a faulty switch and easy to fix. Overall, a very reliable and enjoyable vehicle.
1993 Infiniti j30 Best Car We Ever Owned
Bought her used in 1997 with a warranty. The fuel injectors were covered and not another problem from her for years. Her transmission started to falter and with inspection found a loose bolt. 20 years later only minor rubber repairs and window regulators...She drives like a champ!....She is the bast car I've ever owned!
