3rd Hyundai and loving it!
This is my 3rd Hyundai vehicle and I have to say that I love this brand! I feel that Hyundai builds high quality vehicles that are excellent values. I have the 2018 SE model, Jet Black (Gorgeous) with the black interior. I find that the exterior is beautiful from any angle. I especially love the front end, it looks premium without the premium price. The interior is spacious and comfortable and quiet. My only knock on it is that there is too much plastic, I get that I have the base model but they could have used some slightly nicer materials, nonetheless the gauges are big, bright, and easy to read. I love the 7” touch screen and the Apple Car play, a great feature that comes standard. I also enjoy the rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring. For just over $23,000 this is a fantastic value! I don’t understand the people that complain about the 2.4L engine, they say it’s underpowered and lackluster. I don’t agree the engine is smooth and powerful and I never have any issues with merging onto the highway or passing. It gets good gas mileages (mid 20’s) around town and even better on the highway. The engine is just fine. It rides smooth and quiet and it handles well. So, I can honestly say that for anyone looking for a family sedan, don’t pass the Hyundai Sonata by, you’ll regret it.
Wow, have the mid range cars come a long way!
I drove this car as a loaner while my 2010 Hyundai Genesis was being serviced, and I kept it for 3 days, this is not an ownership review. Nevertheless, I have been impressed by this vehicle, and I am aware that it is the base model. What I noticed right away is the accuracy of the steering. i had to drive 80 miles one way to the dealership for 120 K service on my car, and there is no doubt that this car was easy to drive on the highway. Tracking was superior to that of my vehicle ( that is 10 years old), but I also compare the steering to that of a 2006 Passat I had owned with surprisingly good highway manners, and i find this Sonata better in this regard. Clearly, I value highway tracking more than most people. The noise inside the car was not luxury car level, but was good enough. The controls were instantly intuitive, and the climate control easy to get to perfect settings. I found the seats comfortable, the settings of mirrors, steering wheel, and seat all very easy to accomplish in seconds. I liked the lane change warnings, that work only when you use your turn signals . I never heard a lane departure warning in my drive, but it seemed to me the car was always glued to the center of the lane. The Edmunds review thought the power from the base engine was anemic, but I agree with the very first reviewer that I felt the acceleration was adequate for my needs, and I never felt I was wanting more, though I suspect that if I were climbing mountains i would want the better engine. Back seat room was tested only while parked, and I found it good enough for my 5'10" height, sitting behind myself. Trunk space was remarkably generous, and compared to a previous Audi A6 I had with millions of electronics taking up the trunk space, the trunk seemed HUGE. I could lay two sets of golf clubs along the rear trunk easily without having to take out the longer clubs or angle the bags into the trunk. I did not try to put in 4 bags. My only mild criticism is that the doors do not swing shut easily. They have to be pushed to close with more energy than I am used to. I had a 1986 Acura Legend Coupe, and I was really proud of that car when I bought it. This base Sonata has more power, more comfort, better steering, more space in the back seat ( not in the trunk), and is wildly more efficient . It is just as quiet as the Legend was. I am comparing a 30 year old luxury vehicle to a base 2019 vehicle, and ironically the Legend COST MORE in dollars in 1986 than this Sonata. This Sonata has floored me, cars are so much better, so much more comfortable, safer, more efficient than they were. This may seem obvious, but it brought the message home. Honda Accord, Mazda 6, and Toyota Camry are all rated above this vehicle, but I would have to drive them to believe it. Then, there's that warranty. I would say "Wow" but in my 2010 Genesis I just about never had to use the warranty. Nothing better than a car that doesn't need a warranty because it doesn't break. Finally, apropos nothing, I think that the 16 inch tires on the Sonata were ugly, but I just can't believe how excellent the ride in the Sonata is. I think that smaller tires are victims of style, but are underrated for their lighter weight and better ride.

My second Sonata. Great car!
This 2019 Sonata Sport replaced our 2009 Sonata Limited 2.4 which has been an excellent vehicle. I have owned it for only 3 months and have put only about 2,000 miles on it, but my first impressions are very positive! The car comes very well equipped, but I added the Tech Package ($600) as I wanted the additional safety features it offered. I drove the vehicle back from Phoenix, AZ to Washington State (1,500 miles) and averaged 38 mpg. the ride comfort and handling were outstanding! I'm really impressed with the technology. The "smart" cruise control and the Lane Keep Assist are fantastic! I like the Android Auto feature. All the controls are easy to get at and use. The 18.5 gallon gas tank gives this vehicle a long cruising range between fill ups. Build quality seems very good. I have had strangers come up to me in parking lots and gas stations and tell me what a great looking car this is. If this car is as trouble free as our previous Sonata I will be very pleased. Love it so far! My second review: Have driven the car for over 8 months now and have 5,000 miles on it. Just as I said in my first review the car is great! No problems or reliability issues. Car drives and handles great. The 2.4 L engine provides more than adequate power. Comfortable! Made a trip back down to Arizona from Washington State with much of the highway speeds at 75 mph (Two adults and trunk & backseat loaded) and averaged 38 mpg for the trip. Running around city streets in Phoenix I usually get 25 mpg. Love the "smart" cruise control and lane keep assist. Recently, I was stopped at a stop light with several cars in front of me and the light turned green. We all accelerated when suddenly the cars in front of me slammed on the brakes, coming to an abrupt halt. Before I could react and apply my own brakes, the Sonata brakes itself and gives an audible warning. Wow!! The forward collision system works great! A really nice car at a very reasonable price! I highly recommend it. My 3rd review: I've had the car for 14 months now and have 7,650 miles on it. I still absolutely love this car. No reliability issues. Drives and handles great! Comfortable. Very good performance from the 2.4 litre engine and great gas mileage. Still looks fantastic! Only maintenance I've done is change the engine oil twice and rotated the tires. Would definitely buy this vehicle again! My fourth review: I've had the car for about 1 year and 9 months and love it! About 9,800 miles on it and no problems. Drives and handles great, comfortable. Good gas mileage. I've done 3 oil/filter changes and rotated the tires. I would definitely buy this vehicle again or a new Sonata. Rate it 5 plus stars! My 5th review: Car is almost 3 years old and continues to be an excellent performer. No reliability issues or trouble at all! Great ride and performance! 5 stars again and would definitely buy again! My fifth review: The car is going on 4 years old now and I have a little over 18,000 trouble free miles on it. The car continues to deliver great performance, comfortable ride and very good gas mileage. I just replaced the original OEM tires (Kumho Solus TA31) with a much better all season tire even though the original tires had plenty of tread left. Great car! I would definitely buy it again! My 6th review: Car is over 4 years old now with 20,300 miles on it. No problems at all. Continues to perform great. Put new tires on it a while back. Just a fantastic car at a very reasonable price. 7th Review: Car has 22,000 trouble free miles on it now. Wonderful vehicle, great fuel mileage, comfortable. Still looks great!

Good value
I got the car before the 2020 shows up at the dealers, and got a good lease deal. The features included at the price range is excellent. The ride is quiet, and smooth. Even though sporty sedan, suspensions are soft enough for a comfortable ride. Seats are great, safety features with LKA and adaptive cruise control are great. I am glad this is a stop and go cruise control, works perfectly in traffic. I love the turbo engine in the sport mode, reminds me of my past volvo s60. Even with the child seat, a lot of space in the back seat. The downside is the quality of materials when compared to accord and mazda 6, but if you get a good deal you will quickly forget about that. Also Hyundai skipped the rain sensing wipers even at the top level.

Never thought I’d Own a Sonata
Great value and extras for the money. Can’t beat the warranty 5 yr/60k bumper to bumper. Good looking car with all the tech I could want. Only thing that could be better is the rear back up camera, not great resolution also would be nice to have the over head view for parking. Would definitely consider this brand for my next car if it remains reliable.

Base 2.4 engine works just fine!
Comments about lackluster base engine are unfounded in my book. I never hurt for power when I need it. Nice to have a read 6 speed instead of a droning cvt.
Third 2019 Sonata Limited Disappointing!!!
Hyundai has lowered the quality disguised as upgrades. I traded my 2015 Limited for a 2019. Nothing but problems from day one, from lights, rattle in dash, severe squeaking in brakes. Brake issue took three times to resolve. We are still not sure they are fixed. Tried to file claim, Hyundai rude and inefficient and offered no solution. Lower quality, higher price. Sadly after 10 years of purchasing Hyundai, we will never buy again.

Great value, safe, great MPG on highway
My car is 2019 Sonata SEL with tech package in spring of 2019. I think the car looks awesome with the mesh grille. The tech package give you all the safety features like front collision avoidance, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot indicator. All the safety functions works great, except one complain I have about lane keep assist. The car detect whether your hand is on the steering wheel. If your hand is not on the wheel the car will first make some noise, then it will turn off the LKA. I don't know whether other cars do the same thing or why Sonata does this. But if I fell asleep, I cannot hear the noise the LKA will be off. the car stop following the lane. The LKA may also be not working right after you changed lane. But other than this things, I am so happy with all the safety features, they all work great. The info, entertainment system works great. Apple carplay works perfectly, except that it cuts off your music when the GPS was speaking. I wish they can just lower the volume without completely cut it off. I got it with about $4000 below MSRP price. That's a great advantage for Hyundai. They always give you big discounts later in the year. The MPG value is a big surprise for me. The ad says it is 33 on highway. If I drive highway only I can get 40MPG. But I have a little 5% of city driving, I got 37MPG. I just set the speed at 68MPH for cruise control on highway. I got this number. This put SONATA on the same level with Camry or accord in this aspect. The city MPG is about the same as advertised. But I think Camry put too much engineering to get the high MPG. Their transmission is not responsive in the 2018 model. With SEL, the car has heated steering wheels, heated seats for drivers and front passenger. push button start, remove start with 3 year free subscription of blulink. The car has a lot of space too. The handling is fine. In general, this car is a great car. with the 10 year/100k power train warranty. I think this is much better value than camry and accord without any compromise in performance.

Third one for me!!
First I’ll say is I trust the brand and commitment behind it. I’ve had a 2009, 2011 and now the 2019 sonata sport limited. I’ve never had a problem that wasn’t taken care or by Hyaundai. The latest was an engine problem with my ‘11. The engine seized at 71,000 miles. I was horrified. But even out of warranty Hyaundai recognizes their errors and replaced it with a new engine. I would have driven that car till it fell out from under me. Problem is I walked the lot the day I went back to pick my car up and fell in love with the new 2019 Scarlet Red Sonata Sport. Took her for a test drive and was IN LOVE! Front to back and top to bottom there’s enough technology and Luxury to turn heads. After a generous trade in offer I handed over my keys and drove off into the autumn sunset.

Onward and upward
Great deal but front seat for long trips lack cushion. Great for around town but would trade it if I was still working. A lot of cars have put cheaper seats to save on price and gas. Should not have to buy a cushion. Otherwise great car.

AMAZING car!!!!
I had this type of car as a rental once and I told my husband if we ever get a new car I want one of these!! It runs so smoothly, gets awesome gas mileage and fits my whole family without being squished! We just love our Sonata!!
My shinning Stella Sonata
This car is perfect for anyone who wants the comfort, style and power of a fancy car. It got all the bells and whistles inside the car, including great dashboard with the radio/navigation/XM/backup camera etc. It has heated and cooling seats, even a heated steering wheel. Different forms of driving with comfort, sport, eco, smart settings to adjust to your driving as well as lane assistnace. Wireless cell phone charger. Sunroof that opens for the length of the car. Its a beauty to see in the parking lot and a thrill to drive. It has perfect handling capabilities, doesn't matter the road if it is highway, rural or city driving. The seats are super comfortable and everything in the car I give 5 stars. I've never had a hyundai myself before but I am glad I made my choice. She is going to be a loyal car to have for years.

all i can say after owning a 2014 elantra sport,a 2016 veloster turbo, and a 2018 elantra sport turbo,is WOW..the red pearl is gorgeous.the safety features are fantastic.the smell of the leather inside, and the way everything works with precision is nothing short of amazing. 2 years later--the pano roof can rattle & squeak, brakes squeaking, side of drivers' seat is showing wrinkled on the left side ,infinity system is fair, not what i expected.

A couple of woes.
Overall has been a great car except the overhead console buzzes and vibrates while driving over irregular surfaces. The parking brake often locks up after the car and wheels are washed. Usually happens when car is parked overnight in garage after being washed. Plenty of accelerator pedal pressure needed in reverse for release the following morning. I replaced the stock air filter with a K&N to give the turbo a bit more air. With 15,000 on the clock, mpg is 29.4 city and highway.

Nice car but not quite there
Writing this after a test drive. The car looks great on the outside. The first thing I noticed was how comfy the seats were, loved them. However, the steering was the worst of all the cars I've tested (felt like a car from the 80's). The interior while clean, looks dated; however, it was the base model. I also noticed a delay in acceleration (2.4L was tested), which felt slow to me.

Two Years On and Doing Fine
Picked up my Quartz White 2019 Sonata SE two years ago today. So far, except for a blown DRL lightbulb, no issues or problems. There is plenty of room, car feels solid and handles well, is quiet, and I easily get 33 mpg in the city and 40 mpg using cruise control on the highway. Trunk is large and people rave about the back seat room. The base engine is reputed to be underpowered -- no so. Plenty of off-the-line power and passing ability. This car is very comfortable on a long trip. It handles well in the city even though it is a large car. Visibility is better than average thanks to large side windows. Interestingly, people don't recognize it was a Hyundai. Some folks think I drive an Audi or a Lexus. This is my third Sonata. Insurance and maintenance are cheap. I drove my 2011 Sonata for nine years without a problem, and it is considered an unreliable car. Complaints include too much hard plastic in the cabin. The black interior has gotten to be boring. Headlights seem weak and I may replace the bulbs with something brighter. I am concerned about the bad reputation the Theta II GDI has. Given I now have a lifetime replacement warranty, I guess I shouldn't fret. Had a chance to dig into the safety crash data and it looks like my car is better than average. I hope I'll never have to test that. Overall, for the $18,000 out-the-door price, I'm happy with my purchase.

Awesome car and great Value
Great warranty and road side service package. Great suspension Great value!
2019 Sonata 2T Limited
Overall very pleased with the vehicle. Economical to drive & maintain. Mild mannered but spirited when pushed, especially in Sport mode. Interior well laid out with controls ergonomically positioned. The major complaint is the EXTREMELY sharp headlight cut-off when driving on roads with dips & hills. High beams are better, but still not as good as other vehicles. Recommend test driving at night to determine if this is an issue for you.

Please don’t buy this car and avoid any Hyundai dealerships. There is a problem with engine and engine oil consumption. Also dealers will not tell you about it problem and keep charging you with other issues. This is a horrible business

lacks lot of quality design
key fob is junk, has small pin to release key from fob when in pocket pin can get pushed & when taking fob out of pocket fob will fall off key & get lost. No friction between key & fob, supposed to pull fob from key, fob will fall off key by its on weight. Wound up putting duct tape around top to bottom to hold other fob together Hyundai knows this but doesn't care at least one fob should be covered under warranty. To get new one dealer needs to be paid for it before ordering I have to drive 100 mile round trip just to pay for ordering, is $304 plus amt. to program. Poor seats as cant raise seat up enough & front edge off drivers seat cant be adj. so it wont hit behind knees for 6ft driver. Poor tires for all weather type, dry weather only before buying tell dealer to replace tires with quality ones & pay difference, lack of ground clearance. Lower area of rear quarter panels are cheap plastic type material easily broken & expensive. Manuals are written in an Korean manner that is hard to understand & confusing, to many manuals for vehicle & take up to much room in glove box. Honda Accord may get better ratings but is a lot more expensive. You have to fall into car & is hard to get out of, but is same for most newer makes. If can afford better buy is Santa Fe if wanting Hyundai. Don't buy interior & exterior protectant is expensive, if washed & waxed is waste of money & looks like a glue covering on exterior & is hard to get off when waxing, smears. Sept.2019 review update: No real change very uncomfortable car to drive, felt okay at dealer but not later. Suggest renting a same car before buying & drive few days. Family member has 2013 Sonata & seats are very comfortable, cant put seat actuators in 2019 BUMMER. All of like cars you have to fall into very uncomfortable. Seems manufactures went for what they want not customers. Found Blue Link feature is a JOKE. The Blue Link feature is supposed to be for along time but ends in 3months & I paid for it. Windshield on both upper sides basically about 3 inches from each edge is poorly made has waves in it, in winter cant get wipers to clean windshield & ice forms & poor defroster cant melt it. Guess again Hyundai don't care about quality of vehicle. Have called two dealers & Hyundai about small blue lite close to switch that operates sunroof, don't know any thing about it, seems to lack any care for customer after sale. Would love to get rid of it, wished hadn't bought. Noted in Consumer Report isn't even listed as any rating for cars?????. Took car to selling dealer for oil & filter change, service person came out & showed me an in cabin air filter that was filthy. I knew it wasn't out of my car as had changed it two weeks prior & wasn't brand I put in. Usual scam played by a lot of dealers, showed them the receipt when I had bought it got pretty PO'd. Showed them the areas on windshield where it is wavy couldn't care less. As I have said prior service after sale is joke. Having worked as a service manager for 15 yrs I know great service, cant imagine treating customers like that, MOTTO: Service makes Sales

Not Happy
I've had issues with this car with only 300 miles on the odometer. Particularly vibration when driving. Getting in and out of the car is difficult for taller people, and the styling is behind the competition in my opinion.

Warranty Issues
This is my 2nd Hyundai. Both have had electronic issues. My first was an Elantra and the power steering (electronic) went bad at 30,000. This 2019 Sonata is in the shop for its 2nd electronic failure in 43,000. Now I am told the control modules that are bad are not currently available. NO IDEA on a ship date from Korea. As soon as this is fixed it gets traded.

Get to know your mechanic on a first name basis
Pros: fuel efficient and comfortable but that’s about it The engine is a self destructing time bomb. It constantly burns oil, constant ticking and internal parts are failing such as piston rings and sensors. Forget a smooth relaxing ride, the sputtering and backfiring of the engine will keep you on edge for your life while driving. The suspension is held together by prayers and miracles as well as the brakes are essentially paper mache. The blind spot detection system is a JOKE and constantly needs to be recalibrated. I have had this car in the shop more than I have had it on the road. Sad fact, I have had more empathy from third party garages with my concerns VS the Hyundai dealerships who treat me like a pest…though I guess that’s to be expected when your service department phones never stop ringing to fix inferior cars. Biggest advice, stay the hell away from the Sonata and Hyundai vehicles as a whole. They are inferior quality cars not worth the constant maintenance costs

Good Car and Bad Service
I am writing this review after my 5 years with 2019 Hyundai Sonata. I bought the car in June 2019 from California Bay Area with 22 miles on it and sold the car in June 2024 in Raleigh NC with 85,250 miles. Sold the car and went to another brand only because of bad service. The car is really great to drive in any condition and without any mechanical repairs. Now comes to service , during all these 5 years I drove the car in 4 states and with almost 8-10 dealers and their service is horrible through out all states CA, IL,VA and NC. Hyundai needs to focus on their service to attract and retain customers. I will give 4.5/5 for the car and 1.5/5 for their services :( I have almost 17 services (5000 miles for each service) in all 4 states and not even in one place their service is not up to the mark. The only reason I gave the service is the dealer sold the car with 5 years maintenance plan and which is a scrap it only helped me for their horrible oil changes only.
Hate this car
Traded our 2015 Sonata for a 2019 Sonata! No Sirius on this model that was on the same 2015 model. My phone now has to be plugged in to use the hands free calling and when I do place a call, does not show up on screen if I have multiple people with the same name!!! If I had realized all of the good things they Hyundai took put, I would not have purchased this vehicle. Never again.
