After 3 months we really like it

We were looking for a mid-sized SUV to replace our 2004 Toyota Highlander which we loved. We test drove the new Highlander and thought that was hard to see over the dash and the engine lacked power. We investigated the Honda Pilot but it looked huge, was really expensive and the dealer wouldn't budge much from MSRP. The dealer actually bragged about the fact that they sell near MSRP. So we decided to try the Hyundai Santa Fe even though we had never owned one before, based on internet and Consumer Reports reviews. I had previously driven an older Hyundai Santa Fe model as a rental and had liked it. So we picked out the Santa Fe SE with the Premium Package based on features/price and found a local dealer in Massachusetts. They gave us a great quote over the Internet, just a bit over invoice price. You can still figure out dealer invoice prices using a site like MSN Autos. Don't bother using sites like True Car, they basically give dealers a lead on your business and not the best price for you. We did much better looking directly at dealer sites. The Hyundai dealer was great, very helpful in all aspects of the purchase. All the features we got with the Santa Fe would have easily cost $10K more on the Honda Pilot. We've had the Santa Fe about 3 months now through the NE winter. The AWD is excellent in the snow and the V6 is really powerful on the highway. It cruises at 85 mph easily. We've driven to northern Vermont, and Maine. It has a very comfortable quiet ride. Not sure why other people were complaining about wind noise I haven't heard it. The rear and 3rd row seats split to allow you to put skis in, very useful as you can still get 5 people in the car with skis. Kids in the 3rd row only though. The ride is not super sporty but it has a good road feel. The safety features are excellent. Rear view camera and proximity warning systems on the side mirrors work great. My only minor complaints are that the electronic dash system is a bit complicated, the front seatbelt clips are a bit low and I don't like the feel of the leather steering wheel. Also, you can only listen to the radio about 10 minutes without the engine running, the it shuts off. I think I will get used to all these issues over time. Overall the Santa Fe is an excellent SUV choice, I definitely recommend test driving one.

My wife and I are well into our seventies and have reached a point were ease of entry and exit has become important when it comes to our main transportation. Many of our friends have had knees and hips replaced and are a "little on the heavy side" and they like wise have the same needs. With this as a back drop we realized we needed a SUV. Our last car was a 2013 Toyota Avalon a tuff act to follow for the average SUV when it comes to driving dynamics, performance and efficiency. Spent more time researching, driving and comparing vehicles then we ever have in our lives. Looked at SUV's,when comparably equipped to this car cost upwards of $60,000 and kept coming back to the Santa Fe. Wife liked the size of the Lexus RX350 but we both thought the styling was hideous especially the front end and so it went as we one by one eliminated the completion for this vehicle. Yep in the end we just liked this thing the best The fact it was the best bang for the buck was just frosting on the cake. After following the manufactures break in recommendations to the letter made our first trip to see our grand kids. As you can imagine we have made this trip many times. Expected mileage would fall well short of our Avalon but was surprised to see a average of 27.3 MPG going down in windy conditions and 29.5 mpg coming back. Our Avalon averaged around 30-31mpgs. Amazing. Seat comfort was outstanding the seats fit us like a glove. Ride comfort was just the way I like it firm but not harsh and well controlled. Fair share of hills and turns on our route and the handling was very Avalon like once you started to trust it and drive it accordingly. Loading up the Grandkids and the their parents for a short trip got rave reviews and youngest who loved the climate controls in the third row and dug the simulated Surround Sound of the killer 12 speaker "sound system". Son in law was amazed how favorably the vehicle compared to their new Acura. Found every feature easy to use and love the old school buttons and knobs verses the latest touch screen menu drive stuff that is the current fad. GPS is a snap to program easier the the Avalon. Almost as good a my Garmin which is still my favorite over all. Hard to fault this car but here goes. The drivers seat has a noticeable ripple in one of the panels in the bottom edge of the seat. Might go away with a little use but if not I will talk to the service manager and Hyundai about it. That's about it for complaints. Up date 3/17/18: Had a long drawn out replacement of the glass roof required because of endless creaking noises. To be fair during most of this process which required a inspection by a Hyundai engineer we had a new base model Santa fe to drive which was deeply appreciated. Unfortunately many attempts to mask the problem with sound absorbing material had to be tried before the eventual roof replacement was authorized. Very frustrating. Actually was friends with the shop owner who eventually did the replacement and was advised it is a universal problem with these glasses roofs and there are couple of universal suppliers for all manufacturers. Mater of fact he had recently replaced the glass roof on a new Mercedes-Benz with the same problem. This was done about three months ago and not a sound can be heard from the roof so we are happy campers. Thinking about would we buy this car again if we were in the market? Yep because we just find this vehicle offers everything we want in the size package we need and we both just enjoy driving it and think it offers the best bang for the buck in its segment. Matter of fact it is the only vehicle in its class with a 6 way passengers power seat a big item of the wife's wish list. Best headlights I have ever had on a vehicle so far hands down great range and they turn in the direction you are turning. Yep we still love this thing. For the record fuel economy easily beats EPA ratings especially at highway speeds with very high 20's the norm. Love the adaptive cruise control.

Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate - Great Deal!

This mid SUV has all the bells and whistles for a very good price. Go in and do a test drive. The second row captain seats make this vehicle super comfortable for 4 adult riders. Small adults and children can easily sit in the third row which has it's own A/C control and USB outlet. When you fold down the third row you have a great amount of space. If you want to flip down the second row captain chairs (which you can do from the rear hatch) the space is massive. The controls are very understandable and with Infinity speakers this car has a very nice sound system. The Hyundai Bluelink for remote start, Google location search and monthly health reports make this vehicle easy to maintain and get to where you want to go. It even has Android Auto and Apple Car Play for the ultimate in getting text and replying to text messages using your voice. Bought it for my wife and she absolutely loves it.

We went through the process of driving all the crossovers that compete with the Santa Fe but went with Santa Fe because of a few facts that are undisputed... Of all the Crossovers we test drove (GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Chevy Traverse, Ford Explorer and of course the Santa Fe!) this one by far had the best color choices, best warranty, top of the line safetly features and for us ranked as good as the Pilot in Driveability. It was also the most bang for your buck by a wide margin. We purchased the LTD Ultimate with the Tech package. This is similar to all the most premium models for other brands. I would say that we paid an average of $7000 less than the others which is unbelievable. The Pilot was $10,000 more for the same features! I love the sunroof that goes all the way to the 3rd row! I have never seen something like this before! I also think that Hyundai Santa Fe is by far the best looking crossover and beats all of its competitors in looks as well!

Excellent SUV to consider for your family

Our family was out growing our Honda Accord and need something bigger. I didn't want a mini van and the 2 row SUV was to small. We test drove the Kia Sorrento (the Santa Fe sister car), Chevy, Honda, GMC, Nissan, and many more. We just couldn't find one that we liked and in our budget. Until I found a used 2017 Hyundai Santa FE with 15k miles on it for sale. This is the base model and didn't have the push to start or the smart key entry like we wanted. But it did have the space, the power, it was comfortable, the drive was smooth, and it handled like it was a small car. The next thing I know we said goodbye to our Accord and hello to our Santa FE. It's only been a week but I can honestly say this is a great car! We have already taken it on a 4 hour road trip and it was comfortable to sit in. It fit our 2 kids (both in car seats), our two dogs and with the roof rails we put our stuff on the roof. It's easy to get in and out of, plenty of leg room (except the third row. Leave that for kids only), the gas mileage isn't bad for a V6. The standard back up camera is nice along with the touch (I believe it's a 7 inch screen) screen entertainment system. The provided blind spot mirror on the driver side is needed as its hard to see out of. (Passenger side isn't as bad) Overall I'm very impressed with this car and we couldn't beat the warranty. As a second owner we get the 5/60,000 mile warranty we don't get the 100,000 warranty.

I really like the Santa Fe so far, have not owned a Hyundai before, have had Toyotas and Hondas, so thought I would give it a try. This is a nice SUV for us, not too big, not too small, so easy to park, but still hauls all of us and our stuff. I added a Curt trailer hitch myself and this was very easy to do. The Santa Fe has a lot of options for the money. I really like the surround view camera, I do use this often when parking. Good visibility. Have a few rattles from back seat and will have dealer check that for me, seems to be coming from passenger back seat. I had similar small rattles from Toyota Venza I had before, and Chevy Silverado before that - usually it's a cable rubbing, or a piece of trim that needs a little shim or a small piece of felt, so we will see...Also will see how things go with more miles, I do like the long warranty From Hyundai. Other than the small rattle, this seems to be well built, very logical controls and layout of the interior.

This is a great car. It looks nice, rides nice, and has great features. The only thing I would say is that the navigation system seems a bit pointless with Carplay/Android Auto and you can't get some of the more advanced features without spending thousands on navigation. Other than that, I am happy with the vehicle. The seats are comfortable, power is nice, ride is smooth for a SUV crossover. I have no complaints. There is very little room for cargo if the back seats are up but that is to be expected.

This is a perfect SUV, it's not overly big or too small. It's large enough for adequate storage yet doesn't take a lot of space when parking. The look is also very sporty looking. The ride is smooth and we've been VERY happy with it. If there was one thing that I would have added it would have been to have the option of having the back window to pop up instead of having to open the whole door when getting groceries. But, the back door opens and closes automatically; it even opens on its own when you're hands are full of groceries and can't get to your keys. GREAT SUV all around.

With 11,000 miles now on our Limited Ultimate, I can report that we are thrilled with the car. We shopped a few other cars & had it narrowed down to the Honda Pilot & this. I don't like seeing the entire rear suspension when following the Pilot. It looks unfinished. Also, Honda's cylinder deactivation has been problematic for many years. It has well documented and very expensive long term issues. Then there's the difference in the two warranties. The Hyundai doesn't have cylinder deactivation or turbo or any other gimmicks or gizmos to squeeze out that last mile a gallon and the vehicle is very easy on the eye. On our test drives, the Santa Fe felt more car like and had a much tighter turning radius. When discussing our potential purchase with my neighbor who has owned a used car lot for over 20 years, he stated, "I wish my whole lot was full of Hyundais." The interior is first class, and the seating is luxurious and adjustable in every way. The Infinity sound system has the finest quality sound of any car I've owned in my 48 years of car buying. The air conditioned front seats are something I did not know was essential here in SW Florida until I turned it on the first time. It's quiet, comfortable, and smooth. We have plenty of room for long trips. Our guests enjoy the captain's chairs in the second row. Now the bad-the GPS isn't the best. Adequate? Yes, but I still rely on my Garmin. That's it.

Engine failure after 160000 kms

Greg, 07/15/2023

We bought this car new in 2017 and have enjoyed it until now with nothing needed other than oil changes, brakes and tires. We hit 160000 kms and started getting a knocking noise from the engine. Dealership says it's caused by the engine bearing having failed, and now I need to buy a whole new engine for ~$9,000. There are recalls in the USA for this, but not Canada yet, so I'm stuck with a massive bill on a car that is likely not even worth that much. Was shocked by the response from Hyundai on this, when it's a known issue with their engines (a manufacturing defect). Will never buy a Hyundai vehicle again.

I leased this vehicle to down size from a mini van, not sure if I would like something smaller. It has 3 rows. Third row a little hard to get into but ok once sitting OK for sorry distances. Not much cargo space when using third row. I have the Ultimate yet it doesn't feel luxurious at all. The leatherette seats feel like vinyl. It's a great car for hauling kids around though.

I have used navigation systems in the last 4 cars purchased. My 2011 Nissan had a better Nav than the Santa Fe. The voice recognition is slow, requires several steps to get your destination and many times it doesn't recognize the command. I have had to the dealership 2 times to look at and they tell me the software is current and the system operates as designed. I can't believe that with todays technology Hyundai can't come up with a better system. My wife has driven the Nissan Murano, Mercedes GLC, GLE and the Honda CRV. All have a great navigation system. If Hyundai wants to keep me as a customer they need to fix this navigation issue. I love all other aspects of this vehicle, the ride, it's quiet, the features, the design and the comfort. I'm a little disappointed that the steering tilt is manual and the passenger seat doesn't have lumbar support but the navigation is irritating!! UPDATE....I complained to Hyundai. They told me to take it back to the dealership (again). They checked the microphone and said it was ok and checked for updates (none) so they said it operates as designed. Well, they need a new design!!

Just a warning to consumers, please review all comments online on multiple platforms about Hyundai. I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE ultimate with the 3.3 l engine. I have spoke to many people that have had these engines and many people have lost their engine between 90,000 miles and 110,000 miles, including people with the four cylinder engine. Hyundai will not stand behind people and replace the engine. I just had to pay $7,000 for a remanufactured engine and labor because Hyundai doesn't want to back their equipment up. Hyundai has got to be the worst manufacturer knowing all the failed engines around the world and they don't want to claim any responsibility even though they have the same symptoms of engines losing power all of a sudden and shutting off. Then to realize there is no oil left in the engine because somehow it blew through the exhaust with no warning. I will never recommend Hyundai or Kia because they make the same vehicles. By all means go buy one if you like spending money on engines. I have had many vehicles in my years and have never in my life had an engine fail at 90,000 miles I personally know a gentleman that lost an engine at 110,000 mi. I know another gentleman in Massachusetts with a 2015 3.3 l that has gone through three engines. Just look at all the reviews and do your homework, look online and let all the forums And you will see how many people have had Hyundai engine problems. Hyundai has taken pictures of the internal engine issues and all they say is there was nothing wrong. They are so full of it. Do not ever trust Hyundai. Trust me on this. I will buy any other manufacturer even if I do not like them but at least they last. Hyundai will never ever be a suggestion I will make because of their poor quality and customer service. Worst vehicle I have ever had for reliability!!!!!!!

Great SUV

We purchased this vehicle, used, about four months ago because my wife was expecting our second child and we needed more space. Because we haven't had it for very long, I can't comment on the reliability, but I can say that it has been a great vehicle for us so far and we love it. Pros: -Great interior. -The 2017 model adds Apple CarPlay (and the Android Equivalent) as standard. -Comfortable 1st and 2nd row seats (Haven't tried the 3rd row). -Handles well. -Great acceleration. -Excellent gas mileage. So, per the EPA this should get only 24 mpg highway, yet I frequently get over 28 mpg on the highway ....and I tend to drive fast. -Lots of space behind the 2nd row. (We can easily fit a stroller on one side with groceries or luggage on the other.). Cons: -With two car seats, the third row is basically inaccessible and there is not enough space in the second row for a normal adult to comfortably sit between them for more than a short ride. If you don't have infants or toddlers, this is a non-issue, though. -The drive control buttons (mode, AWD lock, ESC off, etc) are located behind the turn signal in a spot that you can't easily see. Granted, you probably won't be using these on a regular basis, at least not while driving. -Under specific conditions, the traction control will kick in when it doesn't need to. It's not a big deal but it can be annoying on occasion. -The AWD system is not as robust as some competitors like the Highlander. -In 2017, Hyundai dropped the heated seats as a standard feature.

Our 3rd Hyundai and just like the rest we couldn’t get 120k miles out of it. Very well maintained and engine blew up out of nowhere. Junk cars. Old case # 22522354, New case # 23420081 seems like a mighty big climbing number for such a great company right? Don’t make the mistake we did. We’ve been loyal Hyundai owners for 20years until our 2017 Santa Fe, blew up. Perfectly well maintained. My wife was driving down the road and no light no warning, engine locks up. I open a case and they say, we can’t do anything, but for 16,000 you can have a new motor installed. No help just the ole go play in traffic. So be warned, you will be disappointed. After further investigation I’ve found that there are a lot of issues with this engine. A lot of people stuck with a pretty yard ornament. A great testament to Hyundai and their vehicles 👍🏼

I actually went to the dealership in the exact suv I was renting and bought the same model, color pretty much everything. The only difference is the rental wasn’t all wheel drive like the one I bought. This suv is getting better gas mileage than my rav4 which I find strange since the Santa Fe is a larger suv. This suv handles wonderful, the road noise is minimal, friends say they don’t even know I’m driving when I use the Apple CarPlay to make/take calls. The third row seating is a great feature along with the extra climate controls For the 3row. Can’t wait to take the Santa Fe on a camping trip. Looks like she will be able to hold all my glamping gear!

I really liked my 2009, but this is even better. Real time navigation, 360 degree of car in reverse and slow drive. Blind spot warning.

We looked at the Mazda 9, the Toyota Highlander, the Ford Explorer, the Chevy Traverse, and the Honda Pilot. Nothing came close to the Santa Fe as far as value for the dollar. We had a 2007 Santa Fe that gave us very little problems and that followed a 2006 sonata that was equally as reliable. Some of the other vehicles had some aspects that bettered the Santa Fe but in its entirety the 2017 Santa Fe bested them all.

Better yet uglier than my previous 2013 Santa Fe

...Or, let's talk about the Santa Fe Sport's poor brother Disclaimer - this is a review from a Hyundai owner for Hyundai owners. If you're looking to compare with other similar vehicles, your mileage may vary. Previously owned - 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante, 2010 Sonata, 2013 Santa Fe Limited. If you like me have been fascinated by Hyundai's 2013 Santa Fe (long base, not Sport), you like me have been charmed by its many qualities and irritated by its few quirks. On the quality side - amazing design, amazing bang for the buck. Performance, acceleration - everything was pretty much as it should be. For the 2013 model (the first of the series) though, there were a few annoying issues. To name them - a convoluted equipment level choice (you HAD to have the captain chairs on the back if you wanted a panoramic roof), and, probably the one and only real issue - a rear suspension which was too soft for its own good (probably a straight port from the shorter wheelbase Santa Fe Sport), which was ok when driving alone with a light load, but not ok at all with a full house. This has apparently addressed prior to the 2017 model discussed here, so if you drive a 2015 for example - this might not apply to you. If you have a 2014 though, it probably does. The other issue was that you would probably have test driven an entry level model (same engine and suspension), but once you opted for the limited you had to chime the larger wheels (19") in, which would make the ride even harsher (why on Earth would all brands decide that "Luxury" rhymes with "larger low profile tires" is beyond me). Other than that, the 2013 Santa Fe was pure joy all the way. Enter the 2017. As mentioned - it's pretty much the same, yet not the same vehicle. So I'll just point the differences: - It is very easy to mess up a good design, and just like Infiniti did it 10 years ago with the FX, Hyundai has been able to do the (few) subtle changes that changed the design for the worse between the 2016 and the 2017 models. Compared to it competition the Santa Fe is slightly narrower. In the previous versions this has been nicely compensated with a design which emphasized horizontal lines - including for the lower part of the fender and the fog lights which were horizontal. The 2017 Santa Fe Sport ALSO has horizontal fog lights, which make it look wider a wilder. Not so for the Santa Fe. The vertical fog lights (I'm quite sure someone was very proud with that choice) manage to "close" the horizontal line of the car's fascia and to isolate it between two vertical lines going up, making the whole vehicle look narrower and taller. Always wondered why the 2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport don't look equally dynamic seen from the front ? Now you know. On the back, a change as subtle as inverting the position of the backup lights (on the bottom part of the taillight on the 2017 rather than on the top part in the previous models) is enough to disrupt the lines of a behind which, already by design, is heavier, and different from the perfect behind of the Santa Fe Sport and thus very, very easy to mess up. Last but not least - the absolutely perfect design of the 2013-2016 Santa Fe alloy wheels in Limited trim, combining elegance and dynamics to perfection, has been updated to a bland, smaller looking (if not smaller physically), average Joe alloy wheel design. Now that we bashed the exterior, let's enter the vehicle, shall we ? The other reviewer's remarks about the interior's plastic put aside (I wouldn't know, have not compared with other brands), I found the 2013 dash close to perfection in design, and almost so in ergonomics. The large central volume radio button (Limited with navigation) was perfect and easy to find, and the rest was up to speed. The navigation has always been probably the most intuitive to use in the car world. Same for the huge, easy to find fan control button. The only real faux pas were the stupid Plus / Minus temperature control buttons, which should have always been rotary buttons (like on my 2010 Sonata, which - behold - had rotary temp control buttons but a linear Fan control button. Eeeeh... they'll get it right for my retirement year...) In 2017, the Fan controls are the same or almost (good and bad), the radio is a banal two small rotary buttons setup (bad). The navigation and the head unit have more possibilities, but somehow the navigation screen doesn't look as clean, there is no way to switch between connected phone units while driving, little things like that. The front seats are just as beautiful as the previous ones (very, very comfortable for whoever likes german like seats, or "made of soft wood", as the French call them). The seat's ventilation is genius. Beautiful thing. Finally, memory seats. The easy entry/exit feature I'll discuss later. Now, let's drive. Or not. Apparently, space is limited. Let's see if we can add another review...

Bought a Santa Fe SE Ultimate AWD with Tech Package. Got a cool 10500 USD employee pricing discount. This car is worth every penny. Infact this worth more than what i spent (due to discount obviously). In michigan Hyundai cars are sold at employee pricing for everyone to compete with the big three. This car is amazing, it has everything that AUDIs and High end SUVs have and the cabin is so quiet. The 3rd is strictly for kids and it is so functional due to USB port and charging available. With all the safety features that come with tech package this car is a dream to own. I highly recommend this vehicle espcially due to high quality construction and also due to value of for money pricing.

Worst navigation system on the planet. It locates about half the destinations I've tried to input. The system makes no suggestions; just says it can't locate the address. Even my home at 6200 ***** street, built in 2009 can't be input because the nav system only shows street numbers up to 6199. No noticeable improvement in other parts of the country. Air conditioner marginal in front seats above 100 degrees. 2nd row passengers really suffer. Windshield cracked overnight. No rock chips or identifiable cause. Dealer says not covered under warranty but offered to replace for free anyway. Cover over electronics behind rear view mirror keeps falling off. Lighting controls are confusing. Had everything go black and nearly wrecked while trying to dim lights for oncoming traffic and get them back on. Had similar problem trying to turn on reading light and opened moon roof. Afraid to try closing it until found a place to park because I figured I'd open rear hatch next! Windshield developed another crack without apparent cause. Probably frame out of alignment applying pressure or internal glass stress. Not in direct line of vision so haven't replaced again. Tie rods bent and had to be replaced at 12,000 miles. Again, no apparent reason. Just normal city street and highway driving. Entire car seems designed to minimum standards. Has all the whistles and bells of other brands: navigation, adaptive cruise control, lane warning, blind-spot traffic indicators, etc. but everything seems to be rough and unfinished - not quite ready for production. 100,000 mile warranty is pretty much a joke since it only covers drive train. Usual things where a warranty might be needed are covered for much shorter time. Overall, a very disappointing experience. No new problems as of 3/6/2020. Probably will replace at about 50,000. May or may not buy Hyundai. Generally reliable and good vehicle but I would never pay for another of their nav systems. Totally useless. Wind leak around passenger door got worse and worse. Dealer unable to stop. Got rid of vehicle.

At 16000 miles had to have the O2 sensor replaced and a recall for the hood release system. Digital mileage reading (mpg) reflects better mileage than actual. Had another recall at about 45,000 miles for something related to the brake system. Overall the vehicle has been very reliable and has 60,000 miles on it.

Engine failure at 102k

This is my second Hyundai. I repurchased the brand after being impressed with the reliability of the accent. I bought my car brand new from the dealership. I was so impressed with the brand that .I have even considered getting the Genesis. However the engine suddenly died at 102k . No warning. No lights. The mechanics said “ low oil” . How is that possible? .I get my oil changes at the dealership. Our white driveway had no leaks or oil spots. Go figure. Let this be a warning to all that this vehicle may not be as reliable as in the past.

They made this vehicle so easy to operate a ten year old kid could drive nothing complex 290 hp amazing acceleration I could go on and on I don't have one complaint, turning radius is amazing, stereo is nice and loud visibility is good there is nothing I can say I don't like about. I had a GMC, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mitchabechi (the worst of them all) Jeep Liberty it's got them all beat that's all you have to do is just drive one and you'll see what I talkin about

A great car, until the engine blew without warning

After decades of buying Hyundai vehicles (and taking 10 family and friends to buy their products) we will never buy Hyundai (or Kia) again. Our 2017 Santa Fe SE Ultimate (3.3 V6) was purchased new, maintained at the dealership according to the manufacturer's recommendations, and never abused. It was reliable until 101,800 miles when the engine seized without any warning other than a slight knock on start up the day it happened. Hyundai offered to cover 80% of the repair cost out of goodwill. The problem is that the exorbitant cost of a new engine meant our 20% cost thousands of dollars and we were without a car for 4 months while the dealership worked through a backlog of engine replacements! Do your research before you buy a used Hyundai. All the bells and whistles don't make a darn bit of difference when the engine is junk. And Hyundai will not extend any goodwill coverage for second owners or even original owners if the service history is not pristine. I'd also offer a warning before you buy a new Hyundai. Back when our 2017 was still a decent car we bought a new 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy to replace a Highlander we gave our daughter. Our 2023 Santa Fe has also had major engine issues at 5,800 miles and again at 18,000 miles (violent shaking and a dangerous loss of power on the highway - dealership suspects a fuel injector issue, but cannot figure it out). It now has 24,000 miles and is getting traded in this week. We're not going to wait for this one to die and go through another round of fighting with the dealership and the rotten representatives at Hyundai's national customer "care" center.

i am in the market for an suv with 6-8 seat my option were the Hyundai Santa Fe, KIA sorento, Toyota highlander, and the Honda pilot. I first went to see the santa fe and it looked really nice the drl made it better looking than before so the sales person let me take it for a test drive. as i got out of the dealership and on to the main road it felt like it had power to hit 40-50 mph. but as i was trying to slow down to make a right turn i felt the car just bogged down as i try to accelerate to enter the other street that to me seemed pretty dangerous because the if there was a car coming i could of gotten hit. so the sales person made me turn to another street where there was a lot of bump so i drove around 40 to see how the suspension would perform, and honestly it was the worst ride as i heard loud thump as if the the rear struts were bad or something, any little thump could be heard very clearly, it was far worse for my parent that were sitting in the back because they said that the car didn't even cushion any of the bump and that they were bouncing the entire time we were on that road , it felt like riding a horse. also the brakes are a little mushy for a 4000lb car i would expect the suspension to be somewhat decent . i have a versa and a old 98 town car and the suspension is 5 times better than the santa fe. i felt sorry to tell the salesperson that we weren't interested in the car because of the ride quality.

Passanger side wiper blade

Arthur, 06/23/2017

I have complained to Hyundai that the 2017 Santa Fe SE has a passenger side wiper that is too short at 14". It leaves a 1" space between the two wipers that leaves a V-shape between the blades that interferes with driver and passenger vision in rain or snow. I replaced the blade with a 15 " blade and all is fine now. Hyundai did nothing for me in fixing the problem except offer to pay for the new blade. This is a safety problem that should be a RECALL on all the new Hyundai's that have this problem. Disappointed that with all the technology and teams of designers that such a problem wasn't found and corrected before the SUV hit the market.

I really like this SUV. I compared pricing and options to the Big 3 and Nissan, Toyota and Honda. I kept coming back to Hyundai. I used to make fun of the name now Im a proud owner of one(: The only real dissapointing thing is that even with the ULTIMATE edition theres no key fob remote start. Oh well, even my Chevy and Lincoln SUV's had little things that drove me nuts. Not my Hyundai, love it! Mine is the turbo 4 cylinder. No option below for it.

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe that I purchased new in May of 2017. It is pear white in color. I purchased it for my granddaughter as a graduation present. It has been a great car for her. It drives very good and has not required any maintenance other than the routine. But recently the paint on the hood has started coming off in fairly large chunks. It goes right down to the metal like the paint did not bond to the metal. Upon doing some research I found reviews dating back to 2008 models that had similar problems with the same color. Since it’s out of warranty on the paint (3 years) I’m not sure if Hyundai will do anything to correct the problem. I contacted the dealership and they told me to bring it by and let the service manager look at it. Seems to me if they have known about the problem since 2008 Hyundai would have looked into want was causing this problem. I will update my review once I see the dealership.

Now it is at a cheaper price than before so I still recommend it. Plus, 50K MILES?! I wonder what it will be when we get to 100K… anyway it is still a great car for the price and I recommend it always!

A MONTH AGO, THE TIME DISPLAY ON THE HEAD GPS UNIT DISAPPEARED. I went to the dealer and complained about it and at first the service advisor stated there is no fix for it. I told him to have the technician look into it and actually he wrote that he recommends to replace the AVN Head Unit per TSB 17-BE-019. the advisor lied to me that there is no fix. Then the advisor special ordered it 9/3/2019. But until now they claim there is no ETA for it. t's more than a month now that I have no time display on the head unit.

I am extremely disappointed by the way Hyundai USA and Bentley Hyundai decided to handle my handsfree case. This issue was present since day 1 of us purchasing the vehicle in 2017. The person listening on the other end of the call always stated that the voice sounds like it is distorted and muffled. I spent a lot of my time at home and away from work troubleshooting and sending several audio recordings to the company and have been able to re-produce the issue with every single phone call, however the dealership kept the vehicle for several hours and returned it back stating "we don't see a problem". I purchased a new phone, and switched 3 different carries, however the problem never went away. I am extremely saddened by Hyundai's lack of ownership of the issue. After this experience, I will be taking my business to a company that stands behind their customers. It is such a shame for the entire Hyundai team that they won't stand behind the customer and fix something that is still under warranty. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Bentley Hyundai and the Hyundai Brand. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from the Hyundai Brand.

Dependable but not all luxury

Bought my 2017 Santa Fe in 2020. Mechanically it appears to be very sound. Mine has all of the perks which are luxurious and perform well. What bothers me, though, is road and wind noise. (My old 2011 Santa Fe was loud, too.) The six cylinder engine provides a quick response. Gas mileage is what people tend to expect based on driving style and conditions. I hope this helps.

We love our 2017 Sante Fe EXCEPT the ride. It feels like the rear shocks are super soft, and with 3rd row seating, we occaisonally have riders that get bouced or "bottom out" with bumps on the road. Even with just two of us up front it is rouhg - so much so I'm looking to upgrade the shocks if I can.

This vehicle has generally been good as a leisure vehicle, but after 6 years and only 43,000 miles encountered an excessive oil consumption issue after a trip with an "OIL" light as we pulled into our driveway.

I love the room in the Santa Fe, V-6 engine, gas mileage, comfort, sharp looks. Do NOT like the info center, almost useless. No power passenger seat. And absolutely laughable way to get into the 3rd row!!! Other than having to put a new transmission in and the drivers seat belt, this vehicle has been very reliable!
