I really like driving the 2020 palisade but the wind that in comes in at 55 mph is disheartening and the dealers know and said Hyundai know had the SUV 15 months and heard a once about my complaint.

Perfect Palisade

Came home today with a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. I am extemely happy with how the purchase went and how helpful our salesperson, Rich Heimburger was. He was helpful but not pushy. He listened to what I was looking for and helped me attain our goal. This is our first time leasing and the whole process was seemless and we worked with many different pleasant professional people including Gus, Rich and Luis.

Within a year, will look at another vehicle. When reading the reviews, notice the length of the reports. None were short, and all were positive and/or very positive. After owning many Hyundai sedans and SUVs I would recommend a serious look at the Palisade. All vehicles have pros and cons but we've always liked our Hyundais. Currently own VW Atlas and Lincoln MKX, and have owned Explorers, Infinitis, Toyotas, Hondas, etc. Yet when looking always give the Hyundais a very serious look. Palisade has great esthetics ( saw one the other day and thought it was a Cadillac, etc. ). No affiliation or payment with Hyundai, just wanted to add my thoughts!

Engine burned oil and had engine light come on shut off the highway and would lurch forward at stop lights due to some misfire engine code. All independent mechanics agreed engine would need to be replaced and Hyundai Canada would not approve this therefore I had to auction it off. Save yourself the headache

Not a bad car but why does it smell like rotten eggs and garbage!? I don’t understand how that could happen, let alone on a fairlyexpensive car! It feels cheap and drives rough. Not sure what’s going on but do your shopping ahead of time and don’t get stuck with one!

Full of plastic and other cheap materials, this car is made to LOOK like a quality car, but it's not. Steering is mediocre, acceleration is very weak, I was getting wind noise at 40 miles and hours through town. It looks luxurious at first sight, but if you spend more time in it, it feels like a fake Rolex. I wouldn't buy if it was $5,000 cheaper...I can't believe people are paying OVER MSRP, that sounds ridiculous.

If you go to any dealers and try to find this car. They will tell you how hot it is selling and they will charge you 2k to 5k over invoice. From what I understand, Hyundai offer these cars so consumers can get a quality car with value., but that is not what the dealer does in southern region. I have seen 5 k on all the limited. Honestly, if the car starts at 52k or 53k, please just go buy an infiniti qx60. Better ride and better quality. Almost bought this vehicle, after test drive, it has heavy wind noise. Good luck

I love the Palisade with all the bells and whistles it has. But not a happy camper with the customer service received from Capitol Hyundai in San Jose and Hyundai itself. No car seat covers available can't even find what size keep getting the runaround. Hyundai also obviously Blue Link which is not available with this model.

This is an early SEL model bought in Michigan. It was super fast off the line, zipping through first and second to get to a powerful third gear. I couldn’t believe how speedy this vehicle is for an SUB. Then the transmission failed just over 40K miles. My local Hyundai dealership in Virginia did a fantastic job replacing the transmission. Though I have limited miles on this replacement, it seems to be less zippy through the first two gears, which is a good thing. With the original transmission, I would be two car lengths ahead of other cars at the other side of intersections at red lights with just a slight press on the gas. I rather enjoy the vehicle without the Tesla like acceleration it had. As for the rest of the vehicle, I really enjoy a lot of the features. The lane assist is great while the front auto braking can be a pain in traffic. Apparently the engineers and I don’t share the same idea about what a safe distance is in traffic. I have spent a lot of time on highways between southern VA and MI, to include the horrible PA turnpike. This is the most enjoyable and easiest to drive vehicle I’ve had. It rides smoothly, handles corners great, and is super powerful in the when needed, like when towing full trailers through the mountains. My wife is loyal to a high end German brand’s sedans, but willingly admits my Palisade is an exceptional drive (for an SUV). I have been asked about this vehicle many times and can only provide positives to people. The things I don’t enjoy about the Palisade are far outweighed by the many great features and the excellent driving experience!

Whistle noises from doors

J. W., 04/20/2020

Our Palisade is the next to top of the line. It drives nice, it's comfortable and it has some nice features. Here's the two biggest issues. It whistles from the doors at highway speeds to the point that it's pretty annoying. The other issue is the whole having to plug your phone in to USB to use the navigation. Most of the time it doesn't work at all neither do the text hands free. It's interesting that they say it has navigation and you have to use your phone to operate it. Our 2014 vehicle has Bluetooth and you don't have to plug it into a USB to use navigation. It's like have a remote control car that has a cord attached. It's a nice vehicle otherwise, but Hyundai is way way behind on technology.

I purchased the 2020 Palisade about 6 months ago. The first thing I noticed was a bad smell in the cabin. After researching I learned the seats have a smell defect. Then, I started having back issues. I'm not sure why the seats are so uncomfortable but my family is begs for a break to get out of the car after about 30mins of driving. I need to get rid of this car soon to avoid long term back issues. My palisade has roughly 15000 miles on it, is fully loaded, AWD, looks beautiful, but it is so comfortable, smells bad, and is so loud when I'm driving at speeds above 40MPH. I wish I never bought this car!

It is clear that this car was designed for the American family of 3-5 kids. Great tech, feels like a luxury brand inside, apple play, good gas mileage, comfortable seats... this is a very nice car with great space inside. The bad... our lease on our citadel Durango is up soon and this car hit out radar due to its size being bigger than a Highlander but smaller than a suburban... although it hits or exceeds the Durango on most all accounts the place it falls short is the way it drives. Although it is technically smaller than the Durango it drives MUCH bigger... it definitely hits the category of “boatlike” road feel. It’s quiet, it’s smooth, it is report-ably efficient but it is more Buick than Buick’s are now.... The Durango feels sporty compared to that but we have really liked the Durango. I’ll check out telluride but I’m betting it will be the same.

Buyer Beware: Hyundai Won't Stand Behind Their Car

"Don't Buy a Hyundai" Jim, 10/04/2023

1 of 2 people found this review helpful

Purchased a 2020 Hyundai Palisade and within 7,000 miles outside of warranty had three separate major failures ... an oil leak ($1,600), front tie rod needed to be replaced ($849) and shocks and struts were shot ($1,499). Called and asked for some assistance (asked for 25% in good faith aid) since there were three failures just outside of warranty. Their customer care representative said he would review and get back to me in a week. Kudos as he did call back in a week but was very cold and his response was "sorry but your car is outside of the warranty mileage". I said exactly and that is why I reached out to Hyundai customer care. He again said "sorry". So it took a week to review and that was the response I received! Do I feel like this rep spent more than 3 minutes to review my case, NO! So with CS like this I can ensure you this will be the last Hyundai my family will purchase, period.

I bought a 2020 palisade that now has 98,000 miles on it. We have the original manufacturers warranty and an extended warranty. A few months ago I took my car in because I thought it had transmission issues. It turns out it has oil consumption issues, which is very common with the engines Hyundai puts in these cars. My car had burned so much oil in between oil changes that I only had 1 quart left in the car and it was damaging my engine. You would think one of my warranties would cover it since I clearly didn’t do anything to my engine. But, sadly, the process to get Hyundai to do anything is so difficult and the standards so unreasonable, that you will just sink money into the car and not get any results from Hyundai. In order to test for oil consumption, not leaking but oil actually burning up in your engine, you have to do an oil consumption test. That requires you to bring your car to the dealership for a long visit where they do a complete oil change at your expense, plug up the car so you cannot add or take away any oil, and then you have to go back in 1000 miles for them to see if you’ve actually burned up 1 quart of oil in 1000 miles. If you have not burned up 1 quart of oil, they do nothing. If you do burn 1 quart they pay for an engine cleaning. Then you do the whole process all over again and if you still fail, they will give you a new engine. Now, my car just passed this oil consumption test because I only burned 3/4 of a quart of oil in 1000 miles. For reference, my car only holds 6.9 quarts of oil total. So if I actually went 7500 miles in between oil changes, per the manual, I would have no oil left in my car. So in my case, Hyundai will do absolutely nothing. It has been 467 miles since I took my car back in and it passed the oil consumption test. I’ve already burned another 3/4 of a quart of oil. But again, they will do nothing. The car interior is great. The features are wonderful. It is incredibly comfortable. But I’ve had this car to the dealership so many times I cannot even count. This oil consumption is the worst, but there have been a ton of problems along the way. And the dealership will probably tell you that they don’t see many palisades in for oil consumption. I put a lot of miles on my car. And I have a first model year. I think that they will start seeing more issues in palisades as those cars get to my mileage. Good luck if you decide to buy one, but just don’t. Run to Toyota or Honda.

Comfort and Luxury for the Family

My family absolutely loved the Palisade. Sadly, a driver speeder damaged my whole front-end causing irreparable damages, so I sold it (with minimal profit at that!) The comforts and features throughout the car were smart. The truck had power controls for the 2nd and 3rd row seats; 2nd row seats had window visors; 2nd row seats collapsed with the press of a button; intuitive infotainment system, comfortable to drive. We didn't have any issues with this car; just regular maintenance and tires. My kids loved this car and were sad when we sold it.

Reliable and Comfy Family Car

Autumn C., 03/08/2025
2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 4dr SUV AWD (3.8L 6cyl 8A)
0 of 0 people found this review helpful

The Palisade is a great family car with some excellent features, but it does have some annoying quirks. I've seen many reviews complaining about the wind noises, tires, safety features, and comfort. I've had my Palisade Sel for 3 years and have put 30,000 miles on it. My gripes are mainly the "safety" features. The wind noises are legit in areas of crosswinds. I live in a city, so I have only experienced a couple incidents where I believed the noise was loud and annoying. These were on the highway in rural areas. Otherwise, typical driving through the city or forested areas where there are windbreaks, the noise isn't an issue. This car has a quiet ride and occasionally I can't even hear it "running". The tires were not new when I purchased this vehicle at apx. 30,000 miles. I wasn't impressed with them at the dealership. However, at 60,000 miles I am now shopping for new tires because I live in an area with lots of hills and snow (need lots of traction). Tires on it now would be fine for the rest of summer. So really, not that bad on wear. As for suspension, it's not the worst ride, nor the best I've experienced. It does absorb bumps and potholes better than Ford explorers I've driven and my older Durango. I am old school when it comes to safety features. I don't prefer all the bells and whistles, but my issue with the safety features is beyond personal preference. The lane assist was shut off immediately, thankfully it stays off. The Sel has rear sensors providing an extra pair of eyes for vehicles in blind spots. Which the Palisade has a massive blind spot due to huge rear structural beams. The blind spot sensor is great, doesn't always work when it's raining. But when you pair the sensors with lane assist it's a no go. I've been driving in heavier traffic trying to switch lanes and vehicles steadily traveling in the left lane apx. 20 feet behind me will cause the vehicle to start making alarm noises and turn you back into your lane. Additionally, if there is a vehicle in front of you in left lane when switching it will brake hard automatically. This has almost caused an accident, so lane assist stays off. Lane assist is not a feature meant for city limits driving. Other safety features that are annoying are the loud alarms when backing and automatically braking when a vehicle is passing behind you. The automatic braking on highways when the vehicle perceives another vehicle in front of you is going slower than your current speed. This is more likely to cause an accident then prevent one. I went from 70 mph to 50 mph really fast for a car that was turning up ahead apx. 300 feet. Cruise control will also slow you to the speed a vehicle traveling in front of you. If not paying attention, I'll end up traveling slower than I want to. And if changing lanes to pass, you have to do it well in advance otherwise the car slows down then heavily accelerates once in passing lane. The automatic shut off feature when coming to complete stops will eventually cause starter/engine/transmission issues unless the stops are for extended periods (large intersection lights, etc.). Coming to an almost stop at a red light that turns green will cause the car to sputter/jerk. Annoyingly, this feature has to be turned off every time the car is driven. Thankfully the problematic safety features can be turned off indefinitely. If you use cruise control on a regular, this car will be nothing but an annoyance. And lastly, comfort. The palisade is rather comfortable. I've driven many SUVs and the Palisade has been comfier than most. I particularly like that the driver seat can sit rather low and tilt forward enough to prevent knees from hurting. Longer trips though (talking about several hours), the seats do start to hurt the bum. I don't believe that can be avoided entirely though with any vehicle. The driver seat has lumbar support that can be adjusted, and head rests that allow you to actually rest your neck. My husband is 6 foot, 260 pounds. He finds the car comfortable and spacious whether he is driving or passenger princess. Kids have ample space for feet, but less than what is available in my Durango. There are multiple charging ports and an outlet in the second row. No complaints from the kids, and they aren't crowded even with car seats in the back.

Most room in the 3rd row compared to all others. Great looks in and out with all the latest technology. Very happy. And momma won't sell.
