The 3rd transmission and still the same problem

I bought an used 2013 (40,000mi) Equus Signature being one of three that I purchased to serve in my town car fleet. The other 2 were Ultimates. After driving it only 2200 miles the transmission went bad so under the conditions of the warranty I took it in. They claimed to have replaced it after 3 weeks to have me return it the same day with the same problem. So I had to wait another 3 weeks as they said they put in another transmission in it. Well I got it back and was able to drive it 3 months before it started the problem again. If this is a warranty??? this is how to sell Excell's not an Equus. Buyers beware of the g90 they have the same 8 speed transmission.

I have a 13 which is basically the same car as the 16. It has cost me zero in maintenance. After 38 months and 45,000 miles I noticed the top of the headlights were starting to show "yellowing". This car stays in the garage. I mentioned it to the dealer when it was being serviced. Hyundai replaced the headlight assemblies. The car has been rock solid. The only issue was when it was less than a month old the seat massager went out, it was replaced under warranty. It is now 4 years old, it still runs and looks new...no problems. It is now 5 years old...seat massager went out again, it was replaced under warranty. Very satisfied. It is now almost 7 years old, no issues. It has been a great car. We will definitely consider a Genesis for a replacement when the time comes. I now own a Tesla, the Genesis was nicer in a lot of ways. It was a fantastic car. I would buy again.

Equus - 2012 with a bigger engine

kabirent1, 12/12/2011

Just got my 2012 Equus yesterday. I was on a waiting list. I am a little skeptical of reviewers who got it weeks ago - how did they get the car when mine was one of the first off the boat from Korea? Anyways, the car, after 2 days is a lot of fun and seems to be a great value. It rides a little on the soft side, but with the new, more powerful engine, its acceleration is strong. Its exceedingly quiet, roomy, comfortable, and has a long list of features. The promised support seems to be very nice - time will tell if that turns out to be truth or hype. In short, if you are looking for a luxurious ride, don't need to impress anyone , and want to save big $$, this is worth a look.

I purchased a 2013 Equus in December of 2012. The car have lived up to all of my expectations. I looked at BMW, Mercedes, and Audi and non of them could come close to the features of the Equus for the price. I could of spent $40,000 or $50,000 more for one of their cars with similar features. One of the biggest difference in the Equus vs. the other manufactures is the engine! Try to buy a german manufacture car with 429 Hp. You better bring your check book! I changed the logo on the trunk and no one knows what it is. The car gets a ton of looks and compliments. Save yourself a fortune and get this car, you won't be disappointing.

2014 Equus Engine Problem - Please Read and Help

2014 Equus has 32K miles; knocking noise started and immediately brought to dealership. Dealership was extremely rude and stated "you better get your repair receipts ready"! No prior notice, no oil or engine light ever came on. Didn't hear anything for 3 days, had to follow up with dealer who stated we need a new engine. Oil had leaked into the timing chain, sludge built up and the oil was overfull and the manufacture said they wouldn't warranty the engine. Called Hyundai direct and they stated they wouldn't warranty the engine. I have had no previous repairs, drive no more than 1K miles a month, treat the car like my own child and NEVER had a single light come on in the car. Went to BBB and I am going to arbitration with the Manufacturer and I NEED YOUR HELP. ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE PLEASE HELP. MAYBE WE CAN BOTH GET THE MANUFACTURER TO WARRANTY OR REIMBURSE BOTH OF USE and stop this from happening to other customers.

Had the car about 6 weeks and 1200 miles. By far the best luxury value on the market. No, It does not handle like a sports car...it's a luxury car! I for one want it to ride like a luxury car. If I wanted a sports car, that's what I would have bought. So far we love it! Update, car is now 6 years old... Couple of minor paint issues which were taken care of by Hyundai. Still a great car. Update: After 3 years the car has been great. Had some paint issues on the front bumper that was taken care of hassle free. UPDATE: After 4 years I had to have the seat messager pump replaced...under warranty. I know, 1st world problems! Been a good car so far and you forget how nice it is until you drive a different car. UPDATE: Car is now 7 years old, still looks and runs like new. Great vehicle. UPDATE: Car is traded in on a Tesla. Owned it about 8 years, very minor issues. I would purchase again.

Top of the line luxury at a fraction of the cost

I traded in my BMW 745i for the 2011 Hyundai Signature Series Equus, and apart from some irritating aspects of the i-pod and navigation systems, I'm delighted with the smooth, comfortable, QUIET! ride of this luxury ride. To boot, I get 27+ mpg on the highway and 20 mpg overall using regular gas, and the valet service, where the Hyundai dealer delivers a loaner Equus to my house when picking up mine for service is a major plus. The exterior will remind you of the top of the line Lexus, and the interior is similar to the S600 series Benz (the suede like head liner, analog clock in the dash, etc.). Compare sticker prices with the competition and you'll be astounded at the savings.

Most Enjoyable Car I Ever Owned!!

Very luxurious vehicle. Solid smooth ride. Floats on the highway like being in a cloud. I fell safe, encapsulated from the noisy world, and most of all, feel extremely pampered from the moment I step inside. Very quick for a big sedan. Great displayes, comfy seats, and intuitive navi systems. All luxury features in competing car manufacturers are here, but for less money. But, let us be real: $60K is still alot of money. But, nice things cost money. However, the value for dollar is stronger in this product than the others. Also, there is some exclusivity. Most people are still eyeing the equus. Everyone (and their mother) have BMWs and the like. Be different! Stand out! Enjoy the ride.

At little over a year, performance and gas mileage began to deteriorate. Next, an engine knocking became increasingly loud.no check engine or oil pressure light warning. Dealer found oil 3 quarts low-- suspect that the engine had already been damaged..on investigation, this is a systemic problem which Hyundai Equus and Genesis with the same engine share. Hyundai does not appear ready to own up to the defective engine which occurred with the higher horse powered 2012. Major blow in their aspirations to compete as a luxury brand update: they have pulled the plug on the Equus brand;won't fix hardware breakage under warranty Update :after lots of aggravation they finally replaced engine and it been a good car with bad service

V8 is Junk

Don't ever buy the V8 version if longevity is what your after, they run though oil like a McDonalds deep fryer then blow without warning, no tick, no knock they just blow. Google Hyundai, Equus or Genesis with "engine failed" behind it you'll see many fail with less than 60k miles even. They are junk but' I learned too late! Since its so well known these cars suffer from major electrical and trans issues too you can't sell one easily either. Do your homework before buying one you'll see these facts on the net. If you just look around for the high mileage V8's you see very few if any at all because most are behind owners garages needing a new $17k engine. Yup thats what they wanted for my new Hyundai engine, I bought a used engine and traded the car in before it failed me again without warning! Run Forest Ruuuun!

Car is great except that it is unreliable. Car was stalling out and died in the middle of make turns (even on the highway). Dealer kept the car for a month and finally replaced the wiring harness for the entire car. The transmission had to be replaced. The electronic controlled suspension died. Now the dealer says that there is a short somewhere but they can not find the cause. They have had the car for 2 weeks. I call them and leave messages but no one calls back. Hyundai has a special tel number for Equus owners. I called and they turned the matter over to a regional rep. The person called me once and told me that they would call back. She never called back (and yes I left numerous messages for her as well). I then called the "special" 800 number. They told me that I just have to wait for the regional rep to call me back. That was 4 days ago. Still no word. THEY JUST DO NOT CARE. Do NOT buy an Equus. Do NOT buy a Genesis. DO NOT BUY ANY Hyundai. You will be sorry. Update Hyundai finally fixed the problem. They had my car for a month. Returned it with scratches on rocker panel and dashboard. Now at 85,000 miles and out of warranty (except for drivetrain). After 3 major repairs under warranty keeping my fingers crossed. Engine burns about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles.

I GOT THE LEMON!

2013 - Purchased a new Eqqus; also purchased the extended warranty. The first incidence - rear-ended which put my car in a body shop for more than two mos, waiting for one screw from Hyundai. 2018 - (approx 90,000 mi), the transmission failed (Hyundai USA was gracious enough to replace as a humanitarian courtesy) 2018 - rear suspension collapsed - warranty expired; paid out of pocket 2019 - STRUTS failed - paid out of pocket 2020 - STEERING failed - paid out of pocket 2020 - ALL FOUR bushings failed simultaneously - paid out of pocket 2020 - REPLACED front windshield (paid out of pocket - window cost more than deductible) What next? My dilemma is,"do I keep the car and wait for the engine to blow up, or purchase another car, which certainly will not be another Hyundai product. Wish me luck. I will explore, "The Lemon Law," in California. This car was good then went horribly bad. (I think I've been in this website earlier detailing car issue)

Amazing

I love my ride. It has everything I need and I can ever hear my passengers when then speak from the back seat. It handles great in the rain and on most any road you do not feel the bumps or hear road noise. This is the third one me and my grandfather have bought along with four of the genesis. Only downfall is that dealerships near me have no clue how to work on them. The navigation updates should be free to access and buy rather than a dealership like superior hyundai whom is clueless how to work on the vehicle let alone know how to update the system. Luckily we have found us an amazing mechanic, who can do anything when it comes to working on my equus and others we have bought to resale. The 2013 is by far the best we have spent 0.00 dollars in fixing anything major, all has been basic maintenance oil changes, air filter etc. I highly recommend 2012 and 2013 equus years and do not recommend the 2011 the air ride systems on that year is awful along with all the other issues that the dealer could not fix. I love that any place I go, I do not see my same car in the parking spots. I always get compliments and asked what kind of car it is. Once i open the door they are always amazed. Truly a beautiful ride! I absolutely love mine!

Car was 3 years old with 25,000 miles. I went from a Lincoln Town Car and, at first, was a little disappointed in the Equus. The Lincoln had less tire noise and quieter at high speeds. Seating comfort and roominess are about equal. But after almost a year of driving the Equus, I find the ease of handling superior to the Town Car and when I punch the gas to the V8 to get on a crowded Calif. fwy., the Equus has it all over the Town Car. After 10,000 miles of driving, performance and ease of handling has convinced me to buy another Hyundai luxury car.

Just bought my Equus in June 2020 w/ 65k miles & I couldn't be more satisfied . From the quiet ride, to the torquey 5.0, to the heated /cooled seats up front/heated rear (which I will never use anyway), to the simple but attractive interior design/ergonomics.....I could go on. Everything feels quality. I used to sell BMWs & valet at high class restaurants & let me tell you, THIS CAR is what made me realize a badge is just a badge. I can confidently say I own a luxury 4door sedan w/ a muscle car V8 , yet never have to lose sleep over reliability issues. I've had the thing 2 weeks & had numerous people compliment it / ask [non-permissible content removed] is that? Lol . I have no complaints, Hyundai stepped up that's a fact!!

Equus - Beware of unfulfilled promises!!!!!

I looked at several cars prior to my purchase of an Equus. The dealers kept telling me how reliable the Equus was and emphasized their "valet service". Overall I have been happy with the performance of the car. As summer wore on I noticed that the interior of the car would get to 82 degrees on a hot summer day with the a/c at maximum settings. I contacted Equus and they set up an appointment with Alexandria Hyundai. As a part of their valet service they are supposed to pick up the car at my location and deliver a "luxury" loaner car, either an Equus or Genesis. Alexandria Hyundai has cancelled 3 times because they have only "1 luxury loaner car". When I commented that this was the third time that this had happened I was told that it was because the person that had the loaner car out was not satisfied with his service so they were still working on his car!!!!!! What a joke. I again contacted Equus customer assistance and they schedule an appointment with Fairfax Hyundai. Once again they were to provide a Genesis as a replacement car. They showed up an hour late and brought with them a Hyundai Sonata. If Equus and wants to play with the big boys (Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Infiniti) they should put up or shut up. We were considering purchasing a Genesis as our second car but based upon the unkept promises of Equus I guess we won't be spending any more of our money on a Hyundai. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra bucks and get a car that has some support behind it - not just a lot of hot air.

Only complaints I ever really had about this vehicle are: (1) Its got to be one of the most worthless navigation systems I have ever seen I used a $ 115.00 Garmin most of the time in my otherwise luxury sedan and (2) gas mileage is horrendous as compared to the competitors. Ultimately I ditched the vehicle for the two reasons above. I am a realtor and I need a good navigation system and gas mileage that beats what this car offers. I opted for a Land Rover HSE. I figured if I was going to get poor gas mileage I would at least get a vehicle that is fun to drive. A limousine type vehicle will never be a fun drive.

I have just had the car a short time and I held out for the 2012 model due to vastly improved engine and transmission. (429 HP and 8 speed). I haven't opened it up yet, but it obviously has worlds of power. 0 to 60 probably near 5 secs. It is ultra quiet and very comfortable. The seat has many adjustments and the control for same is very handy. It is priced many thousands (20 to 35K) less than M-B S series, BMW 7 series, or the big Lexus, or Audi A8. Go drive it and see for yourself!r Audi A8 to 30K) less than any equivalent car from BMW, M-B,

I have owned six Mercedes Benz, one 360 Lexus and one Hyundai Equis 90. The Equis is now called Genesis. Without a doubt the Equus/Genesis is the finest car I have ever owned, nothing compares to it. By the way I am 84 years old and I owned all of these cars for years at at a time. We now own a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Ford Thunderbird.

This is a lot of car for the money, however, the resale value is low compared to the car. I have had my Equus for 5 1/2 years and have had no roblems except for the side mirrors driver side where I have to adjust it every time Had the dealer fix several times, but still not quite right. The maintenance service has been excellent and the Equus drives very well with absolutely no problems. The design of the 2013 was great and still looks classic. Plenty of trunk room compared to Mercedes. Very comfortable ride

The long distance comfort of this car is of serious concern. I bought this car and took a 900 mile trip a day later. Three hours into trip, my back was screaming in pain. By the end of trip, I was incapacited, with shooting pains in legs, back and arms. I am a long distance driver and convinced the Hyundia Dealer to buy the car back after showing them the articles on Autoblog about the seats (google Equus Long Distance). The dealer purchase a Lexus LS460 (14,000 miles) and I traded up. I just completed a 600 mile trip in the Lexus. No back pain or any other pain. The front seats in the Equus are poorly designed. No way to modify them, I tried and even had a pad made with memory foam.

I bought a 2012 signature in 2019. I had this car under my radar for years and when I bought mine it had 65K miles on it and after about 4 years and putting 35K moles on it and I had all these issues: 1) Failed (leaked) air suspension system which uses bellows. The car was so low in height and had to be taken to dealership. 2) Electric side mirror stopped folding 3) Badly burning oil. Hyundai dealership tested it for 3 months and concluded and recommended that the engine needs to be replaced (I did not do that though due to financial reasons). I had to top up about one or two quarts of oil every one. 4) Alternator went bad twice (the 2nd time probably was because 90% of the alternators are rebuilt ones). I was stranded one on the right lane of a highway as the car had no power and the electric-assisted steering wheel would not turn a bit. 5) The key was not detected by the car, so I had to insert the key fob every time I started the car, in the glove box dedicated key fob for 2 years. This was the biggest and most annoying experience I had with this car, and I took it 4 times to the dealership to repair it, and the next day the issue immerged again. The total time that the car was at the dealership for this issues over the course of two years was about 2.5 months. 6) Rear left window stopped working 7) Rear right window stopped working one month later. Although the ride was great, the look was awesome, and all other good things that others said like fantastic sound system, very low cabin noise, a lot of power and acceleration as needed, big and roomy, nice paint, never fainted front and back light covers, nice leather, nice attentions from other cars and pedestrians that one can get, still I fell it gave me a lot of headache. Lucky me that I purchased an extended warranty at the time of purchasing the car from the Lexus dealership where I bought the car from, and the extended warranty paid all the repair costs for $0 deductible. I consider that extended warranty as one of my best investment ever, otherwise, if I would pay about $30K for repairing those if I really wanted to keep the car.

I have owned this vehicle for about one month. I could literally live in it. I’m in love with my car. It’s the most comfortable, luxurious and finest vehicle I have ever owned. The looks I get are amazing. People are just stunned. I am so proud to say I own my signature 2013 with only 57,000 miles. I am only the third owner. It looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. I got it from my sister in law. I always admired the car, but never dreamed it would be mine. I’m a very happy person.
