Fun car, with annoyances

Alexa, 12/27/2009
2009 Honda Fit Sport 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5A)

I was spoiled by my Toyota Echo - 40+ mpg. The Fit can't touch it. Its mpg readout claims 34 mpg, but it lies. Very inaccurate, and since Honda does such a good job on everything else, I can't help thinking it is intentional. I get 29 mpg. Other annoyances - no cubbyholes for sunglasses, car reg & ins, phone charger, etc. BLACK upholstery (hate it, but only option for 09 Sport) collects tons of hair from my blond, long-haired dog. On the other hand, I feel safe, with crush-zone front and lots of airbags. Fit is peppy, has great easy-to-read, well-lit gauges, good sound system, cruise control. It hauls lots of stuff easily.

Traded in an 2009 Civic Si for the Fit Sport and so far am very happy. Of course it does not have the HP of the Civic but the overall drive, visibility, utility and fuel economy cannot be beat within it's class. Having had the car for one week I just re-fueled and calculated an average of 43mpg (on-board display read 47.6mpg) with a 70/30 highway/urban commute. Highway handling is not quite as tight as the civic due to the higher profile, but handling and maneuverability around town more than compensates. I almost bought a MINI but needed the extra space and four doors, and this Fit the profile. Will update after the first oil change.

Wanted to downsize a little from my 2007 Acura TL-Type S. Test drove an 2008 Fit to see what was all the hype. It was great. Couldn't wait for the 2009. Went to my local dealer and put a deposit on one even before they came in... the car was that much in demand. Glad I did. It is amazing. Not as fast (or flashy) as the Acura, BUT, it is so nimble and just plain fun to drive. The folding rear seats (up and flat) allow for an AMAZING amount of room! Don't miss the Acura at all. Average just around 37-38 mpg in city driving... and sometimes I really push using the paddle shifters :-). Test drove many cars before I settled on the Fit. Easily outclasses ANY car in its class. Get one!

Mostly Great - Navi needs improvement

Like many, my Fit gets much, much better mileage than EPA. My average over 14,000 miles has been 34 mpg, with a high of 43 mpg on a highway trip at 65 mph. It's fun, fun, fun to drive - I still look forward to driving it every day. The stereo is very good, but not great. People are surprised by how much interior room there is. Biggest complaint is the navi system. The POI database is so bad it's almost unusable. Missing lots of businesses and inconsistent naming which makes it really hard to find them.

Rough and tough

I think Honda forgot to put springs & shocks in my Fit! The ride is brutal on Minnesota's beat up roads. Honda's build quality is apparent, any other car that rides this rough would have broken in half or at least creak, groan & squeak after 15000 miles. My other complaints are the awkward placement of the cup holders. Being a righty, the cup holder on the left side of the dash is inconvenient. The mouse fur interior fabric traps hair and lint that is difficult to remove. I also wonder how long the cardboard carpeting will hold up.

I purchased my Fit in March of 2009. I've had the car for 3 weeks now, and love it. I purchased my Fit as a second car, my primary car is a Honda Accord. I purchased the vehicle, because I travel to clients daily, and I wanted a car that was good on gas, reliable, and comfortable. I looked at the Toyota Yaris, I didn't like the center dash, and the Scion, but I liked the Fit better. The car is very roomy inside, I'm 6'0 and weigh over 300 Lbs., and I'm very comfortable, even on trips over 1 hour. After 3 weeks, I have no complaints at all, and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Had my old fit for 2 years and liked the multifunction seats and gas sipping ride, so to go for the new one wasn't difficult. Much improved and drives a lot more than a normal car, better springs and wider axle stand gives a smoother ride. Took the at in BASIC trim, makes fewer revs in top speed and more miles to the gallon as the manual or sport autom. Add cruise control to it so it's even better for the wallet.

I'm a Honda fan and had been looking at the Civic . I had seen the Fit from a distance and thought it was too small. When you really look at it seriously, you will become a believer in the Fit. It has plenty of power. You can drive in the high RPM with paddle shifter, but you will suffer on the MPG. It has all the power features. There are many seat configurations and are easy to adjust. I just got my first real mileage numbers in 75 highway/25city driving: 39 MPG and I wasn't trying to conserve fuel. Everyone in my family is enjoying driving the Fit.

I drive two small children, their car seats and a double stroller around San Diego on a daily basis, and I am glad I chose this car. The cargo space behind the rear seats is cavernous for a car this size. The legroom in the backseat is awesome, but I haven't been seeing the stellar gas mileage everyone else is getting. With 60/40 driving its average is 30 mpg with 200 miles on it so far. I'm sure that will improve. I'm not too impressed with the a/c. It was barely cranking out any cold air and the past few days were over 100. This car could also use darker tint on the rear windows. And I'm having a few issues with the power door locks. The red with chrome wheels turns a lot of heads.

I bought a 2009 Fit Sports MT 2 weeks ago. It has good handling. The MPG is excellent (37 MPG 1st tank tripmeter / fill up calculation). The build quality is good. And I love the USB connectivity with iPod. The best of all, I can fit my bike (with front wheel off) standing up with the back seat folded. A lot of my friends are amazed by its functionality. The speakers are kind of weak and eventually I will replace them. To sum it all up, I am a happy Fit owner.

I would recommend this car for anyone looking for a fun, reliable, roomy car. You can't go wrong with a Honda, and the Fit is just perfect.

So I have not had the car for very long. I just got one. It was a tough decision between the Fit sport and the Scion xD. However I am very happy with my choice. I love the fit. being an art student I have so much stuff I need for classes it fits it all nicely. I highly recommend it. Smooth ride I'm getting about 31 mpg with mixed city and highway. I got the black Berry Pearl.

I have owned my Fit for approximately 6 months and the auto has proved to be very reliable. Overall the Fit is well constructed, but a little bit on the cheap side for features. One example is the front wiper blades - I cannot remember a recent car or truck that did not have true intermittent wiper blades! The Fit rides sporty, but a "little" on the bouncy side. The noise level inside the cabin can become fairly loud at times, such as during acceleration. The front seats are also on the uncomfortable side - the seats could be better designed and have at least an adequate armrest for the driver and passenger. The gas economy computer is also a joke - even GM can do this right.

I am loving this car so far. Averaging 37MPG on my daily 50 mile RT commute and over 39MPG on 250 mile road trip. I have grown to really like the paddle shifters in manual mode, and this from a "die-hard" manual shifter. For a sub- compact there is tons of room and think the rear seat flexibility is very well designed and functional. I find the highway ride a bit harsh and noisy, especially over expansion joints. But overall, this rates as one of the top 3 cars I have owned and I have owned nearly forty cars!

Bought this car during Cash For Clunkers, but waited to write a review until I saw how it performed during a Vermont winter. I put studded snow tires on and it's been fine. Everything else is what I hoped for--fun to drive, trouble fee and consistently gets 40 mpg. I keep the back seats folded flat to accommodate golf clubs, dogs, etc. To keep wear and tear to a minimum, I bought an Elemmat from Murdock Industrial. It's a rubber mat designed for this model and it protects the cloth upholstery. I got the base model, since the only feature on the sport model I cared about was cruise control, but decided it wasn't worth the extra money. Not a luxury car, but great basic transportation.

Purpose Built Vehicle DELIVERS!

What a great car. The design is sharp and sporty. Handling is superb and road feel is good. The high steering ratio increases it's fun-to-drive appeal. I have driven faster cars, bigger cars, and more luxurious cars, but in the end the Honda Fit is a true purpose built vehicle that makes me want to drive to work. Road noise is typically Honda-like but the great audio system makes up for it. The negative consumer reviews thus far are absurd, It sounds like some drivers are let down that it is not a luxury- sport-utility-hybrid super vehicle. It merely takes aspects from each and puts it a great price point. No other vehicle in it's class will make you compromise less.

I have had my 09 base/ Fit for about a year now. I love the car! I average about 38mpg. Even on major road trips, packed full of gear I averaged 36. Not the most powerful car, but I'd rather have good mileage. My husband is over 6' tall and he has plenty of room over his head(hard to find in a small car)The road noise is considerable on highways, but my previous cars were Saturns so I'm used to that. I had to get used to not seeing the nose of the car (since it is so low). I had never had a hatch b. before & had to get used to the corner blind spots while backing up. I also noticed a blind spot at the front window bars while turning into a deep curves, just a matter of moving your head.

I've been a Honda owner for 25+ years and I love my Fit. It's my favorite Honda to date. It's the most sensible car I've ever owned. I'm getting 33 mpg around town and close to 40 on the open road. It's surprisingly comfortable on long rides. I love its super versatility and its deceiving amount of cargo room. I easily fit a full size washing machine in the back. Maybe that's why they call it the FIT, everything seams to FIT. In my book it beats the heck out of any boxy top heavy gas guzzling SUV.

My old SL Saturn has been showing signs of dying for years, so I hit the internet looking for a new replacement. I stumbled upon the Fit completely by accident, but fell in love with it after reading several reviews and the specs on it. As of Jan. 27, I've been having a blast with my new Blackberry Sport and it just seems to be getting better! Driving to work is fun again, fuel economy is fantastic, and with all I can do with the back seat/cargo area, I'm set for just about anything! I will admit the price was a bit much, but just over 5k after, this was the BEST investment I could have made! To quote the commercial, "The Fit Is GO!!!!"

I will add more to this review later, but my initial impressions are very good. I don't have a long commute or drive a lot as other Fit consumers do, but I still got this because I know Honda's are reliable, I like the new Fit's design and performance specs compared to the older versions and I wanted to be environmentally conscious. I sold my 2001 Jeep Cherokee and am glad to finally be past the SUV phase of my life. Getting used to the 4 cylinders will be interesting, because the Fit just doesn't have a lot of power. But it's so low and aerodynamic that it still zips around and is fun to drive. So far I love the Fit. I think it's a great value for the money in this economy.

I purchased my Fit after 16 and a half happy years with my Civic. I had tested several other cars but fell in love with the Fit. The interior is huge with amble leg room, seats that adjust comfortable with good lumbar support. The back seats are amazing with seats going up for to haul tall items or down for an enormous storage when needed. Unlike my Civic, the back seats are very comfortable. It is a small car so acceleration might not be that of a high performance sport car, but perfectly adequate for town or highway. I am a gentle driver and get 35-37 around town and an amazing 40-43 on the highway. It is sporty to drive with wonderful visibility. I just love this car!

These past 2 weeks we took a trip from North Haven, Ct. to the exact same location 2 weeks in a row. I filled up when we left and refilled after the return trip both times. This is the first time that we took exclusive all highway driving , up to now it has always been a combination of city/highway. The first week we used 2.44 gallons, traveled 114 miles and achieved 46.7 mpg. The second we used 2.31 gallons and traveled 114.4 miles for 49.5 mpg. We very carefully watch the mpg. slide bar and apparently it pays off. We have been achieving combined city/highway 33-37mpg. since we have owned our Fit base automatic for the past 16 months. -Warren.

I have the Fit Sport with navi in manual transmission - it has VSA and ABS. It has excellent handling in the snow. 2 days ago we had snow here in New York, and in our area we had about 6 inches. I decided to try out the ABS system and the VSA system of the car. So I drove on streets that were not yet plowed, particularly on those with some elevation, so the car had to climb. Having manual transmission, I was able to drive slow, (the proper way of driving in snow). I was in full control all the time. Not once did the wheels spin or slide - because the VSA corrected it immediately. I was passing SUVs and minivans in the Palisades Parkway who could not make in elevated inclines.

I have owned this car for a year. Very efficient design, fuel economy is good but not great (the computer overestimates fuel economy by about 5 mpg). Ive never experienced any issue with trucks or side winds. The car will haul most things, and is almost like a mini suv. Not one mechanical issue, and the powertrain is very solid. It is overall a very good commuter car. It is not a car for long road trips due to the driver's seats. The ipod connector is hidden, and works well. I wish i had the navigation system as using the standard display to operate the ipod is tedious. The nose is very low and it is very easy to drag on some driveways.

If you are looking for something fun to drive with great interior flexibility and very good gas mileage- please consider the Honda Fit. It has very good gas mileage, a lot of interior room with back seats that fold both up and down, wonderful visibility out the front windows, accessible and logically placed dials and controls, a decent stereo system and has that almost undefinable "fun to drive" factor seriously going for it.

My 09 Fit arrived over a week early. I've been driving it now for just over a week and I really like it. If you're looking for a really flexible vehicle that looks great (if you like its look), gets great mileage (better than it EPA rating) has sufficient power and is a very high- quality build, then, you'd better try to grab one. In the Portland area, you have to move fast to get one, though!

I've owned the 2009 Fit for just one week, but I have some valuable feed- back so far. Surprisingly, I have averaged between 34-35 mpg on my first tank of gas, significantly better than I expected. I read earlier customer reviews that complained about the 2008 fit's inadequate Air Conditioning. I understand their concerns but I think I have found the reason for their complaints. The front seat passengers are exposed to quite a bit of sunlight with the position of the windshield and the tall side windows. The AC is fine, but when you are exposed to direct sunlight, you will feel hot. Window tint is essential to remedy this concern.

This is our first Honda. We also have a 2007 Nissan Altima which we love, but wanted a true economy car for short hops as well as commuting. We fell in love with the 2008 Fit we drove but decided to wait for the 2009 since we were intrigued with the new body style and what sounded like some new features. We're thrilled with the car after the first week. The quality and comfort are first rate. The mileage is running at 42 mpg for the first few hundred miles. It's smooth, quiet, and just fun to drive!

I've only had my Fit ~ a week but in minutes I was overwhelmed. I'm short and have never been this comfortable in an automobile. I can put my feet flat on floor and feel like I'm wearing the car. It responds to my every move. The little triangular windows front and back give the best vision I've ever had. I though I'd like the color best (orange) but there is so much more to this wonderful car.

This is my second Honda. I'm a 6'1" 190lb man coming from a '86 Honda CRX this is a real step up. I can see how some would be a little miffed with the road noise. It's a tad on the rough side. The suspension sporty very responsive. It could use a 6th gear because at 80 mph it revs at approx. 4000 rpm. You will however, love the room the cargo space, the dash layout. Yaaayy!!

The Good: My wife has always wanted a small car but with a family we had to have bigger ones. Now that the kids are gone, she got a Fit and loves it. I fit well in it at 6'4". It's like driving a go-cart. The Bad: 1. No low washer fluid light. It's only offered on Canadian models. Why?? 2. Speedometer extremely hard to read. Dark red needle on a black background. I have to take my eyes off the road for a long time to determine my speed instead of just a glance. It should be yellow or white or orange. 3. The Honda OwnerLink website should have a feedback link so owners can make suggestions. Other than that, it's a great little car.

I spent a LOT of time looking at the cars in the this category and eventually couldn't find a better deal than the Fit Sport. I was able to get one at invoice. Couldn't find the exact one I wanted because finding a Sport manual w/Nav is like looking for the Loch Ness monster. Don't bother getting any simple options from the dealer, they are priced crazy. $150 for floormats (including install charge); found them on-line for $72. I've had the car for going on 3 weeks and over all I am very pleased with it, and find I can live with the cars quirks.

I have a very long commute driving an hour and 1/2 each way from work to home so comfort and MPG were very important. I was looking to get the 2008, but when I went on the Honda website I was sold on the 2009. I ordered my 2009 White Sport Fit with the additional center storage armrest. I have been driving my fit for a month now and couldn't be happier!! With 1,000 miles on it already it drives so smooth the turn radius is awesome. The interior/exterior are well made and love the "dive down" back seats that fold completely flat (comfort for our dog)My 6'2" husband fits well with room to spare! I'm getting 38 MPG hwy/city. Great get up and go for northern Virginians crazy no mercy driving. =)

Bought my first Honda yesterday, drove it home, and am not displeased at all. I am 6ft 1 inch 240 lbs and was totally comfortable in the drivers seat. I am long waisted so head room is a biggie and the car has it in spades. Very pleased and am looking forward to a long ownership with this car..One thing...what is the deal with no armrest for the passenger? Anyway, great car for the money and the right car for the right time.

Got my 2009 base Fit in September 2008, so have now driven it for nearly 9 months. It does everything I had hoped from great gas mileage--35 mpg in 90% suburban driving--to cargo carrying. (I have hauled an extra large size electric range, and my bike will fit in the back with both wheels still on). Mileage dropped to 32 mpg in the 20 degree temperatures of December and January but is back near 36 mpg in May. It is really fun to drive as well as cute and functional. I'm heading on a 1500-mile road trip to south Florida from Asheville next week so will report on highway mileage and trip comfort after that but everything so far is really great.

Right Car At The Right Time - Part 3

Wrote my first review about 6 months ago & then wrote another a month later after being extremely impressed with the fuel economy. Well, I'm still very impressed, as this car has managed to deliver 37.5 mpg consistently since my purchase. Bottom line, something is jacked with the EPA figures, because most Fit owners get much better mileage than the reported 27 city/33 hwy. I also think the car desperately needs a 6th gear, as the gear ratios are way too short. I can only imagine how much better the hwy mileage would be if there was a tall 6th gear. Plus if the ratios were more spaced it would quiet down the engine noise, as the engine spins at 4,000 rpm's at 80 mph which gets annoying fast!

I purchased this car one week ago on Dec 20, 2008. I am very happy with the 09 Fit Sport. I had the 07 Fit Sport but it was totaled by the insurance company. I enjoyed the 07 but on a longer drive the 09 feels smoother to me and to be very honest, it is a much more pleasant drive! I love driving around in my new car because I love the way it handles. I would give higher marks in performance but pulling away at red light and uphill is hard. Going uphill on an interstate is hard... your MPG get really low it is a bit slow to do. Fuel economy is ok, for me as advertised thus far. Interior needs a center console so took points off for interior.

Practical and fun to drive

The Honda Fit offers the utility of a mini-van, the efficiency of a subcompact, and the go-cart handling of a Mini Cooper, all in a single package. Make no mistake, compromises abound in the Fit--from its tendency to sway in a crosswind to the buzzing engine to the terrible seat fabric. But the Fit does something few cars can manage--it is both eminently practical and absolutely fun to drive. The 5-speed manual shifts smoothly and the little 1.5L engine is both willing and responsive. Handling is nimble, and the tight suspension gives you the sense that you are carving turns on the asphalt. A fantastic value.

Bought this car moving down from a Ford Escape. Haven't missed the larger vehicle because of the feel of space in the Fit. The Sport truly has a 'sport' feel and the fuel economy is wonderful. The car is tight and quiet and gives that feeling of pleasure every time I get behind the wheel.

I took delivery of my Honda Fit Sport on September 4th ! The Sport seems to be the only model available in California . I have been driving back and forth to work for two weeks now . I drive down to near sea level from 3300 ft , so down hill one way and up hill the other way . I have driven at either 50 or 55 mph deliberately to see what the best fuel economy could be . You should also realize that I would get better fuel mileage had I driven these speeds on the flat ! I am a professional driver and have performed fuel tests before . I have driven 1122.7 miles which involved 4 fuel top ups . The Fit has used 26.116 us gallons this gives a fuel consumption of 42.99 mpg .

I've only had the car for a couple days and I already love it. The interior space, high mpg, overall design, and driving experience are great. Although, I don't really need the nav system, I do enjoy it and love the voice activation feature. It's just a great all around car that looks pretty cool in black. And for a little car with 117 hp/107 ft.lbs. torque it's a fun little car to drive and the 5 spd manual is spot on. This car deserves some awards from the automotive press for sure "Of the Year" or "10 best" you know who you guys are! Way to go Honda!

This is a great car for the size and price. It does not feel like you are in a small car while driving it. There is ample space in the front seat area. We are tall and have no problem. I love the mpg monitor even though it does run 2-3 mpg higher than calculated mpg. Most of my driving is stop and go and mpg have been ~29. USB input is great. The controls on the dash are large and easy to operate, very user friendly. The car heats up quickly in the cold. I did add the arm rest center console and it is nice. The engine does get loud when I hit the gas too hard. Overall this car is fun to drive and I am so happy I have it.
