We purchased this vehicle used - a lease return with 40,000 miles. It needed a new transmission at 50,000, the head gasket went at 70,000 (this was covered under warranty, but was in the shop for a month), the main wiring harness caught on fire at 90,000 (this had been replaced under a recall before we purchased the van), and the list goes on. We've averaged $1,000/yr in repairs on this vehicle. Don't buy a 95 Windstar!!!

i own a 1995 ford windstar, and it is the worst van i have ever owned. the transmission went out 6months after i bought it. 4 month after that i replaced the engine. the starter has been replaced, the tie rods the cylinder was replaced, the brakes twice(8 months apart)the heater is shot and needs to be replaced, right along with the crank shaft pully and theres a noise still underneith. i also replaced the rack and pinions. now the head gasket is out again. its only got 16,000miles on this engine and 2 months past the warrenty. ford refuses to help in any way or stand behind this windstar. stay away from these or you'll be very sorry, i know i am

Close, But No Good-car

Basically a comfortable van that has performed well with the exception of several major problems. The transmission failed at 108,000 miles ($2000 rebuild). Also, without warning, such as water vapor in the exhaust, etc.) the head gaskets failed at 118,000 miles. We were traveling at 55 mph and by the time we could pull over, the engine had seized ($3400 repair). I was previously burned with a 1989 Chevrolet ASTRO and now with this Ford. Will not buy a car from either manufacturer in the future. Looking now at a Honda Odyssey or Pilot, a Toyota Sienna or Sequoia, or Suzuki XL-7.

we are the second owner of this van. had 89000.mi on it when we bought it and it now has 123000. with no problems at all!! everything works good, its comfortable, roomy, easy to drive and always starts. we did put a battery in it and brakes but thats it for the 4years we had it. i really don't want to part with it but the miles are getting up there, even though it is in excellent condition, i think its time. the only thing that does not work in it is the passenger window recently decided not to work.
