Great, Peppy 42-43 MPG car

For most people it's not a 47 MPG car, but the fact is a great 42-43 MPG car. (My lifetime MPG peaked at 45 in October but is going down with colder weather.) Myfordtouch is fun to play with even though the speech recognition is a bit dodgy at times. The car performs much better than the Prius and is roomy for 4 adults. It doesn't really NEED a backup cam in that visibility in the back is better than a prius even without a cam, but a cam would be nice. Mine has the rear sonar which is useful, but a camera would be better. My only problem has been a tire pressure warning system light that won't go off withotu a dealer re, but that's not unique to the CMAX, that's a standard Ford part.

I've had my C Max for about 2 months. I think the design of the car is good but the gas milage on the highway is a pipe dream. I can see where you could get 47 MPG in the city under certain conditions but no way will it ever get 47 on the highway. A more realistic gas milage would be around 37 MPG at 75 MPH, 38.5 MPH at 70. if your lucky you can get around 40 MPG at 65MPH basicly the same as a none hybrid car. I now have 4500 miles on the car a just came back from the first trip with the car. I could have done with out the SYNC it just don't work well. I have had one issure where all four windows came down and the car unlocked it's self. Fortunately I caught it before the rain got it.

I'm about 3000 miles in with 2 long road trips. My overall average is 40mpg, with the road trips coming in around 37mpg with my normal suburban commute averaging around 43mpg. The dropoff in mileage is pretty clear--the faster you go over 65, the mileage drops off a cliff (well into the low 30s). On the flipside, the C-Max loves 45-55 mph roads with stoplights. Fortunately, that's my normal commute. --- Updated in 2016: Now 35k miles in--mileage still great--right around 40 mpg. Ford did some tweaks that allowed more electric engine usage at higher speeds so it doesn't shift into gas mode so quickly. It hasn't seemed to affect the long term gas mileage for me. Some cons--the first year I had the C-Max, it had some weird battery draining issue (especially in cold weather) that killed the main battery when parked. They did some sort of software fix and the car has been fine since. Still love the car! Great commuter car.

The only reason I'm rating it low on comfort is the seats. Hard seats, with leather and heaters. But all the cars I test drove had hard seats - Subarus, Toyotas, Hondas. C-Max Hybrid is a great little zipper. Overtakes other traffic easily. Ease of entry and exit - no banging head or knees while getting out or in. Good storage space (but do keep in mind, this is not an SUV). I hope the C-Max will prove to be a great decision, as I spent the better part of 5 months reading articles, driving cars, comparing all aspects. My last car - Nissan Murano-2004 traded it in, before that Nissan Pathfinder 1996 and still running. I would have rated fuel economy as great, but for the fact that it is not the top of the line MPG. It is close to great. Just not perfection. I fill up once every two weeks, and it costs me on average $23.00 to do so. Only once have I achieved over 40MPG's. Mostly it holds around 37 to 39MPG's. 90% of my miles are city. But I do make the quarterly trip to upper Vermont, and the quarterly trip to upper NY state. Those longer road trips go by with ease, and mostly a feeling of comfort. I would recommend this car for the single driver, the small family with one child, and even the person who heads to the box store a lot to load up on supplies. The back seats lay down flat and are a really great help. My first ever Ford, so there is a lot at stake here - the Ford reputation. Ford, don't let me down now.
