Beware 47 mpg claim

Had the car for about 10 days. Average mpg so far, 36. I'd be happy with 43 or 44, but there have been only THREE occasions when the small instant trip mpg guide popped up and showed mpg over 47. I mostly drive this car on shorter trips of 5-10 miles. Only if you can miraculously keep the gas engine off will you be able to get above 40. This is with acceleration so slow as to be a hazard to traffic kind of driving. I had one perfect condition (50-55 mpg) parkway driving trip of about 50 miles that still couldn't produce but 40 mpg and the return on interstate doing 70 was 36 mpg and mostly flat constant conditions. NO WAY this car is going to meet EPA reported 47 - 37 yes, not 47.

Not a Prius Killer! 31MPG

Open letter to Ford: I thought my 2013 C-MAX would be a Prius Killer? NOT! As a returning Ford buyer I feel deceived. I want to support US companies and US jobs. What was Ford thinking when they published 47/ 47/47 estimates? Based on the advertised EPA estimates, I would have been ok with low 40's but 28-33 mpg is not even in the ballpark. This is not an issue about EPA testing standards, but rather an issue about setting false customer expectations in order to promote sales. Ford's "47MPG" marketing campaign tarnished what should have been the roll out of a truly remarkable vehicle, the CMAX. Real world MPG estimates should have been promoted in the mid-30's.

I had a Prius and would choose the C-Max over that any day. It is a more comfortable ride and has better visibility and a better driving position. Surprisingly, the cargo area is about the same and the back seat on this cute little C-Max is fantastically roomy. I think it's the head room that makes a real difference in the roomy feel of it. GET the SEL! I changed out the tires because of poor traction in wet conditions. Huge improvement but my mpg dropped significantly. Still can't complain, though, and I'm much happier with the safer, quieter ride.

4 years in on the 2013 C-MAX

As we approach the end of the 4 year lease the veneer has somewhat tarnished in the last year. It was all pretty good but the last year has shown chinks in the armor. We had an issue with the front axes, brakes and tie ends after about 85-90 k. Quite disappointing. As the age of the vehicle has progressed, the mileage has become increasingly erratic. Averaging 5.8l / 100km (48 MPG) right now. Big drop in Winter ... drops to 6.2 or 6.6 depending on cold. You can buy non hybrids that get that. Does not bode well for the future, so we have decided to return at the end of the lease. Still don't like the Courtesy wipe. The Sync System (which Ford has revamped since 2013) is an afront to anyone tech savvy. Sirius cuts out often...don't get that on the other car. Maps can go wildly out of wack and need to be updated annually as part of the included package. Navigation is kind of a frivolous waste with things like WAZE now. Definitely needs the snow tires. Integrated garage remote works about 50% of the time, as do the door locks and foot swipe rear hatch when its cold. Better in warmer weather, but still not over 90%. What is next is up in the air. Kind of thinking Ford has gone from Quality is Job 1 to Quality is Job None. : (

STRANDED REPETEDLY!

Everything is great except the quality. We purchased a C-Max for our business and it has been a disaster. When it works we loved it... Is it worth it to have a vehicle that may leave you stranded at any point? "NO." You cannot unlock doors without power. We have had to abandon the vehicle and use an alternate to get our work done on three occasions. I was so pleased to give Ford another chance but what a disappointment. Do not buy this car until they figure out the bugs and fix them. I will never buy another Ford.
