Great, Reliable SUV! Love it & buying a 2nd!

Purchased this suv with 60000 miles on it, one owner. Currently has 140,000 miles and no major issues! It has been absolutely fantastic with upkeep (just brakes, oil changes and other routine maintenance). Nitro gets great gas mileage for an SUV (avg around 22mi/gallon combined city/hwy & I live in the mountains). Great snow driving vehicle, though I would prefer a 4-low option on the all wheel drive (it just offers 4 high). Biggest downfall was the radio, which stopped working after one year (easy to replace with aftermarket radio & speakers are still great), the cheaper plastic interior pieces which have taken quite a beating from my dogs (scratches, scuffs etc), and the low front end clearance due to plastic bumper, which really limits off road capabilities. Overall, it's been a great vehicle and we're looking to add a second one to our family!

I fell in love with the Nitor at first sight and I havent had any big issues since I ourchased it brand new in 2008. I only have one child so I didn't need anything huge but I didnt want a golf ball this is perfect the gas milage is pretty good for an SUV. Its very fun to drive as it sits a little higher than other SUV's of the same size. I was in the army so off road diriving comes natural to me and my Nitro conforms to my semi wild life style. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Bought my Nitro used and absolutely in love with it. I've owned it for a month now and still can't wait to just get in it and drive. Mine has the 3.7 liter which will throw your head back when the pedal is pressed, but will make your heart stop when you see the gas gauge drop. Not used to the MPG for an SUV as I've always owned a car. The Nitro is great for long trips. Plenty of room for passengers and luggage. Just an all around great vehicle. Love my Nitro!

Bought my used Nitro 6 months ago and still in love with it. I drive alot; have already added 22k miles and it's still going strong. Though not too pleased with the quality of the cloth interior (seats will pick up water stains); I threw on some seat covers and kept it movin... Plan to invest in new seat coverings this summer. Overall, I am very happy with my truck and love its sporty look, spacious interior, easy handling and fair gas mileage.

Bought my 2009 Nitro a few years ago, no issues! GREAT in the snow, Yokohama Geolander A/T Tires. BOUGHT WITH 130,000 miles, no issues, traded in with 205,000 miles! A true workhorse, never left me stranded, fits anything you need. Comfortable ride, good pickup, averaged about 19 mpg. My favorite SUV to date. I wrote this two years ago, still one of the best SUV's I ever owned.

got it from new. had 100k miles and only water pump replaced. other was oil and brakes. the tail gate light switch issue is standart on this truck and i got the problem. i just disconnect the switch and go. In snow the control is the best I never see. so very reliable, fair driving and power, very good tractiion control, but cheap interior plastic. the center console was too big leaving less room for nothing. trunk wideness a little small, you could not put a plywood sheet. if the interior plastic was better quality and the console smaler i will give a 9 on 10 .. go ahead, you will like it.

As you know if you own a vehicle 10 years or more from new status then you basically got your return on your investment. i will tell you that the DODGE NITRO 2008 gave me that experience. I purchase the car brand new in 2008 from a dealer and basically i kept up with all the maintenance every 3000 miles per the handbook and i will tell you that vehicle has performed. it has pick up speed and it has only after 10 years finally a service engine light come on which was a $385 fix of an fuel injector. If you keep the maintenance up per the manual this SUV will be a true jeep engine. The only item i must complain about is the rust level on the back door. i kept washing the car thru the years weekly but somehow i got rust building up on the front grill and back door of the SUV and this cost i have not yet to take which $1500 to fix in a body shop. so if they come up with aluminum frame and body type and use the same engine it will be a hit. i used this SUV for 8 years and then gave to my son at 18 years of age who has used it for 2 more years and it is still going strong except of the rust. It still gets 22 miles per gallon and still has great pick up on the highway and is an SUV so in the snow and rain the tires do great!

My 2008 Nitro is the best car I have ever had. It is a company vehicle and the reliability and performance have been outstanding. I have 98,000 miles on the car and the only maintaince I have had to do is the scheduled oil changes. Still has original brakes and tires. The ride and handling are excellent. Wonderful car. I will purchase another one in 2011.

I read the review by the customer that is obviously disgruntled, and couldn't disagree more! I've worked in the automotive industry for years, and can't recommend the Nitro strongly enough. The only detractor that can readily be noticed is the fuel economy; the 3.7L engine has my mileage at about 17 mpg (city). A little excessive if you ask me, but the rest of the car more than makes up for that. The Nitro is unbelievably stable for a vehicle its size. I own the 4 X 4, and found it to be great in snow. While evryone else was sliding, I was right on track. The styling right on the money, too. In short, you can't go wrong with this vehicle!

B+ Sweet SUV! Love it! High ride. Not sluggish as others have said, when cornering the computer protects vehicle from over acceleration. Can override w/EVP off. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS! Runs fast off line for 4000 lbs V6. R/T has even better performance. Best mileage w/ cruise control (highway 27 mpg). Rear seats nice & roomy, however exiting vehicle is awkward, especially for children < 10 (due to height of vehicle and far forward short floor). Front leg room is a little narrow. Has interior wind buffeting if only rear window down. Warms up quickly for heat/defrost (~10 min. at 10F). Cat Back exhaust makes vehicle 'growl'. Turn off 4WD before tight turns like parking in mall.

If you looking for something that's soft and refined you probably should look elsewhere. this is a tough strong roomy SUV that's built on a truck frame and rear wheel drive so it does drive more like a truck and a crossover or a car or front wheel drive SUVs. Everything else held up well in the vehicle and I'm quite pleased with its reliability. As far how it is held up some of the experts say that the plastic is terrible on the interior but it's actually held up better than a 2006 Subaru Forester that I have the interior is practically dry rotted and falling apart. I do like the Forester would you compare the two the Nitro is more comfortable

4.0 liter V6--R/T version

I tested both the 3.7 and the 4 liter engines and found that the 4 liter was a rocketship compared to the 3.7 engine. I purchased the 4 liter. The R/T package will also get you 20 inch wheels and a sports turned suspension. The R/T version handles as well as my Audi A4 in tight corners with this package and I am amazed at the quickness of this SUV. Very little lean. Fuel economy is rated at 21 miles per gallon and with only 350 miles, I am getting 18.2mpg. The interior fits my style and is very confortable. The slide and go storage is great for anyone with a sore back getting items out of the rear end. Built in GPS, subwoofer, bluetooth and 20 gig hard drive with Ipod plug in. I am happy.

My wife wanted a Jeep so I test drove everything they had and bought the Nitro instead, The reason I gave this such a good rating is based on its price compared to everything else in its category. It is not the fastest nor most powerful thing I test drove but it was 7000 less than the next competitor and had much better performance per dollar and was so much more fun to drive than the super soft inadequate feeling suspension on the grandma grocery getter Jeeps I drove.

Do your research the 2008 Dodge Nitros have a bad TIPM and Dodge refuses to replace it. Myself and thousands of others have a problem where the vehicle will not start or crank, the headlights start flashing, the windshield wipers turn on, the horn honks, the radiator fan turns on but the vehicle will not start. More disturbingly in 2009 Dodge issued a Technical Bulletin explaining the problem to their mechanics but did not recall the part, even though there was a recall for the same issue in the 2007 Nitros. Thankfully my problem has always happened while the vehicle was parked, others were not so lucky and I've read accounts of peoples car shutting down in the middle of busy intersections, driving down the highway. The electrical issue can occur in numerous fashions and can effect all systems including fuel and brakes. DO NOT buy one of these vehicles until this part is replaced. Someone is going to be seriously injured or killed one day, don't let it be you or your family members.

I've had my 2008 Blue Nitro for almost 2 weeks, It is an investment for me cause I hadn't had a payment on a vehicle in almost 6 months. I had a Red Jeep Liberty Limited 2002 that I paid off in January and was so glad to see it go. I had nothing ,but problems from the Liberty during the last 3 months I had it. When I saw the Electric Blue Nitro on~ line I wanted one. I set my mind to it and finally ran across one (that was blue with low mileage) and purchased it with no problem. The sound system is also a plus and I have sirius satelite radio for 3 months at no extra charge. Anyway check it out for yourself if you wanna' know ... go test drive one.

I recently purchased a Dodge Nitro and so far I love it. It's MPG isn't great but it is a SUV, what do you expect? The look is awesome, great interior space, so many features, smooth and quiet ride, fun to drive. It can comfortably seat big men. The interior material is perfectly fine. For the price, it is worth every penny in my opinion.

I now have a hundred twelve thousand miles on this Nitro. the only mechanical issue I have had was the water pump went out and I replaced it. That was a $30 repair. I have those course replace the tires brake pads and rotors front struts and rear shocks. All items that are expected to wear out on a vehicle that has over 100k miles. It rides like a truck and has plenty of cargo room. That's a 6000 pound tow rating. I'm a stickler for maintenance so the fluids I've always been changed regularly. I think it's a great little SUV.

I purchased my brilliant silver Nitro 2 weeks ago. Thus far I have no complaints. This vehicle is turning heads. I traded in a Honda Element for this suv. I was skeptical because I never owned a Dodge before and some of the customer reviews were not very impressive. However, I am pleased with my decision thus far. The gas mileage is better than expected too.

This has been a good dependable vehicle, just could use more horse power, slow when you need to merge into traffic. The rear suspension is stiff giving it a harsh ride. Excellent in snow or wet weather and that boxey design allows for a lot of rear storage.

Horrible misfiring problem. "This is a well known issue by Dodge", yet I haven't seen one thread to help clear up the issue or provide a fix. I was told the rough ideal was normal at the beginning. Now I almost can't even drive it, the engine vibration is so bad and it only has 125,000 miles. I am waiting for a rod to shoot out of my hood or the engine to completely literally emplode. One code I am recieving is P303, cylinder 1 and 4 are misfiring and I have tried changing the coil packs, changing spark plugs with no success. Unless someone who reads this from Dodge provides a solution to the issue and reaches out to all of us Dodge Nitro victims then I will not support a company anymore that pushes junk down the assembly line then clams up when a majority of their customer are pulling their hair out trying to fix their investment and there is no information out there for us to obtain to do so. I'll be more than happy to remove my post when I am provided a fix, hell better yet a call or notice in the mail offering it to be fixed.

I have had my Nitro for going on four years now. I bought it with less than 10,000 miles on it and now going on 60,000. I love my Nitro! It has been a very dependable truck with little to no problems. Lots of room for traveling and hauling. I think it is the wisest choice in a vehicle when looking for something affordable and dependable. My friend just bought the same truck and she loves hers, as well.

My boyfriend bought me the Nitro for Christmas and we both love it! I don't think the gas mileage is bad at all being an SUV. The looks are great, very tough looking. The ride is very comfortable not hard like a truck. We also have the nice suspension, power sunroof and 20" chrome wheels along with all other options we could purchase. We get looks everywhere we go. I recommend anyone considering the Nitro to be ready to buy it because, you're gonna love it!

This is the best purchase I've made in a while. Everything about this vehicle is awesome, from the spacious cab design, the ultra-modern door handles, the default sound system, comfortable seats (I didn't get the 6-way adjustable, heated ones but I'll bet they're sweet!) and excellent maneuverability and steering control. It's an all around excellent SUV. It even gets good gas mileage, considering what it is. In fact, the only thing I might consider changing is a swap of the location of AC/heat control and the radio. But that's minor and still up for debate. If you want a new SUV, you want the Nitro!

Don't let the look fool you. We had problems with the vehicle after a year of ownership, with the wheel bearings. Specifically the hub on both front wheels and the cost was over 900.00 dollars. Also the winter had done its part in damaging our vehicle. With some mud getting onto a sensor(ESP) that is connected to the rear wheel was damaged. The cost to repair this was around 2000.00 dollars(parts and labor).

The towing is amazing. I tow a big camper and a horse trailer, neither sinks the suspension. Power, ride, and handling are all good. I have had nothing fixed as of yet. A rock solid vehicle for smaller people. My only complaint is I am a bigger guy and the seat is just to high, steering wheel is to low.

We bought the R/T model with every option that you can get in one, except it didnt have a security system in it which makes no sense. From pretty much day one we have had nothing but problems with it. The A/C didnt work properly the first 4 months we owned it, Check engine light has come on numerous times, took it in they say nothing is wrong, passenger seat squeaks, parking brake dont work at all, rear windshield wiper breaks going through the car wash, now with only 26,500 miles on it the main computer (PCM) has to be replaced. Been in the shop for a week and part is still not in! Would recommend never buying one of these!

I purchased my '08 Nitro because it had many of the features my other vehicle had standard. Of course I would still have my other vehicle (Mazda Trubute) except it was hit in the rear at 55mph and the damage was just to great. My Nitro had 52 miles on it and was considered used when I purchased it from the dealer. Since I have had the car the tire sensor goes off all the time indicating the tires are not equal pressure (I think it's defective)the handling took a while to get use to sicne my Mazda SUV was far superior in the handling, breaking and turning. I'm not crazy about the vehicle. I think you have to be a jeep lover or Dodge fan to enjoy this vehicle.

After reading a lot of negative reviews from auto journalists about the Nitro, and reading positive comments from owners, I bought a 2008 RT for a very good price. Yes, the ride is a little bit choppy in the RT version, but I do like a firm suspension. I also love the interior of the RT, look and feels so much more superior than the base models. Fuel economy is okay so long I'm easy with my foot. However, my gas mileage is horrible when I step on it and release all its power. I'm not too crazy about the square look of the vehicle, than again it has a lot of room inside. Bottom line, I love this vehicle so far.

I love my new Nitro! I got the Nitro in the Red, it is very eye-catching and handles really well. Plus it is quiet, much quieter than my 2001 Honda Odyssey. I wanted to get away from the minivan now that my kids are getting older but really didn't want a car or big SUV so this was an excellent compromise! I am looking forward to seeing how it handles in our winter weather. Would recommend this car to anyone. The only complaint I have is that the gas mileage isn't the greatest, but I am hoping this corrects itself as the car gets more "broken in". Love the looks, have gotten many comments already, and my stepsons would love to drive it for me

I had my Nitro R/T for over a month. I average 15 miles a gallon. I really enjoy driving my suv. I feel for the money I paid the interior would have more luxury items. Love the bluetooth feature through the radio, leather seats aren't too bad, heated seats are great. Only the driver seat is power, passenger seat isn't. Nitro R/T has 260 hp and great on the pick up.

At 190000 miles I've had few major repairs. I know it went last forever. I wish it would. It's unlike the thousands if other SUVs. Unique. Classy looking.

My Nitro has had problems from the get go. 2 months after purchase the d/s door lock literally fell apart. The truck is lock & unlocked with the remote?? The gas tank now spews gas when filled. Dealer said it was a "defect" but we are no looking at a total of 3 days in service and they REFUSE to offer me a loaner!! This is a SAFETY issue. The fuel filler neck needs to be replaced. I was also informed that the radio has to be replaced as well...This truck is 16 months old! With ALL issues it’s a total of 5-6 days in service and NO help with a loaner. They are, bit by bit rebuilding this truck...EVERYTHING is a "defect" Worse vehicle I have ever owned! Do not recommend

I've owned my 2008 Dodge Nitro for almost 2yrs now, I can honestly say its one of the best vehicles I've owned so far. I chose to get the 4x4 and I live in upstate NY where we get a few feet of snow every snow fall. The Nitro handles great in the snow, and can really bite into the deep stuff with no issues. I get A LOT of compliments on my Nitro, from the color to the design,to people saying it looks "tough" and I feel extremely safe everytime I drive it in bad weather. I can def see myself buying the same vehicle in the future as long as they continue keeping the Nitro rugged, and aggresive. This vehicle is an suv..and it rides, and handles like one. I love it.

Car looks good but that is all! Poor Interior, low grade plastic, no room in front seat, glove box too low and so so material on seats. Side mirror way too large. Poor Gas mileage. Bumpy ride and so so handling. Door locks take to long to lock after entering. Needs auto running lights. Manuevring is like using a tank.

I have over 10K miles on my Nitro. It has been into service twice because parking brake doesn't hold. Returned to me without fix, service tech said it is "self adjusting" and would self adjust if I came to full stop when in reverse and before shifting into drive. Have been doing this but no resolution to problem. Also, when reversing from parked mode it will freeze not reverse until I punch the gas pedal (safe, eh?). Service tech said because brake pads (disks?) stick together when I apply parking brake after driving due to hot metal and told me not to use the parking brake if I don't like the phenomenon. WHAT! Owner's manual says to always use parking brake! Final note: gas mileage sucks.

Got this vehicle for Christmas 2007 and thank God that my car dealer is honest and loyal. This vehicle leaks from the roof!! Whenever there's a heavy rain, I have to go running back to my dealer. This is a terrible Manufacturer's Flaw. Will never purchase another Dodge Nitro again!!

I love this machine! The only thing I have to say is it could be better on gas, but I my total miles back and forth to work is only 6 miles a day. The reviews are not that great in C.R. but I must say I don't agree with a lot of the test reviews! The style inside and out is great and I think it handles very well. ( keep up the good work Dodge)

This vehicle is overall very nice and a great ride. I love the sort of retro rugged look, compared to the typical frying pan looking Japanese and German cars.

I've had my Nitro for 2 years now, putting on roughly 35,000 km each year. Love it! Husband says not enough space for him (he is 6'2) but I don't have an issue. Very sporty, fun to drive, easy to park, can haul lots with the fold down seats. Mileage could be better but heh, it's a SUV, they are all the same aren't they? Haven't had many problems at all. Tire pressue gauge is touchy would be the only thing I've have to say negative in 2 years hauling 2 busy kids around, living on a gravel road in rural Alberta.
