Used 2004 Dodge Durango Consumer Reviews
NICE BUT...get something else
Dodge has done something with this 4wd that I just cannot understand-All this money poured into the new design and an underbody skid plate that is lower than anything under the vehicle and FLAT! READ- It acts as a shovel- not turned up in the forward portion and only about 6 inches off the ground-UNBELIEVABLE! Don't think about taking this thing off road- you will high-center in a second on even the slightest rutted roads!
I'll buy another one!
When I'm ready for another vehicle this one will go to my daughter who at that time will be getting her license. Then I'll buy another newer Durango. I've loved it since we bought it!

2004 Hemi Durango
Having traded a 2001 Durango for this I see only improvements. The vehicle handles as if it is much smaller than it is and rides considerable better that it earlier verisons. With the Hemi it tows effortlessly, better than any vehicle I have driven. When not towing, from quick starts to high speed passing this vehicle pulls hard and accelerates more better than any other SUV I have been in. As far as cargo space is concerned, it is enormous. You can't miss with this vehicle as long as you have a gas credit card (preferable with rewards for heavy use).
2004 Limited second engine died
Bought this first year of this generation and had the first Hemi throw a rod after 2 years 11 months and over 100K miles replaced with Jasper, the Keyfob system got nuts until those modules were replaced , then the engine needed computer updates to stop turning off while driving and not accelerating. So after say summer 2011 it became used less often as the third car- the hauler and Snowtank . Just this past week the while on a highway trip at just under 170,000 I got the Hemi Tick - basically the crankshaft and lobes are most definately messed up . No 3rd engine and no massive engine job on the old girl just waiting for other suspension issues and transmission issues. I figured in the 16 years even with all the major repairs it still cost me under 300 a month aside from gas. Best part about it this year was the Hemi 5.7L did not have MDS. so around town got 12-13mpg and never more than 20 on the highway. Can't say I'd buy another Hemi because they still have the Hemi Tick all waiting to happen could be 50,000 or it could be 150,000. It's a design shortcoming and it specifically targets shorthaul drivers and idlers the most. P.s rust around the rear fenders especially towards the bumper, it's the mark of these Durango models, see it all the time on any survivors.

Solid Performer
Primary vehicle purchased to pull a 6,000 boat. Comfortably hauls 6 people plus gear and the hemi pulls the boat well. Fun to drive. This vehicle has character and I'd buy another one.
Sweet Ride
More power than you will need and comfort too. If you buy a vehicle like this and are concerned about fuel economy you are in the wrong market. get a mini van or a volvo. Pulls my boat like nothing else has.
Great SUV
I had a 2002 Durango and swore I'd never own one again, but after riding in the 2004 I changed my mind. There is plenty of room and it is a comfortable ride. I didn't get the hemi because I wanted better gas mileage. I haven't had any complaints about power and I've go 19 mpg on the highway. Mileage around town is usually 15 mpg.
what a beautiful detroit made vehicle!
this suv is a terrific vehicle. it is a vastly improved design over the old durango. the handling, the engineering, the interior are all extraordinary. i could not be more pleased with my purchase.
comfort/performance/room
Wow.great riding comfort, the room of a large mini-van, a solid safe vehicle, smooth and firm handling..great for a family, providing all weather handling conditions.
NOT BAD LOOK FOR BETTER 2005
FIRST SUV I'VE OWNED. SO FAR SO GOOD. I HAVE THE HEMI AND LOVE THE POWER. RECENT VACATION TRIP 1200MILES ROUND TRIP WITH LUGGAGE ON TOP AND PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY! CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE FUEL ECONOMY. BOUGHT MAINLY TO TOW MY WIFE'S CRV SO GOT THE TOWING PACKAGE. WILL HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS WORKS OUT. ALL IN ALL NOT A BAD SUV, BUT LOOK FOR BETTER IN 2005
