98 Chrysler Town & Country
I've had just routine maintenance problems with it, except for problems with my door locking system and loss of power to transmission shifter and cruise control, all of which I've had fixed twice. My major complaint is lack of power and so-so gas mileage (21.2 combined).
My Tan LXi
I bought it with 89000 miles on it in 2000, clean and in good shape, a few stains on the leather and one plastic door panel shaded slightly different than the others. In less than 2000 miles, the water pump sprung a leak. No biggy. A year later a squealy idler pulley had to be changed. Then I had an overheating problem. Bad thermostat. No biggy again. Just recently I changed the serpentine belt, had the plugs changed before that. Got new Michelins like the originals. Love the car. Would recommend it to anyone who likes comfortable, economic transportation with all the bells and whistles.
180,000 Mile Review
Bought this highest rated van in 1998. Wonderful comfort, able performer on the highway and in city. Wind noise a distraction at highway speeds. The removable 3rd row seat, although heavy to handle, along with removable 2nd row captains chairs makes the roomy rear better than a pickup. We've handled many large loads, plywood, sheetrock, easily and out of the weather. What sinks Chrysler is its miserable reliability. Replaced a broken transmission 3,000 miles after the warranty expired, our experience with dealership support after the sale was poor. Too many expensive repair issues.
1998 Chrysler Town & Country LXi
This is an excellent van to drive - quiet, roomy, powerful, and comfortable. We bought this to replaced an Audi sedan, and our young kids loved the extra space from day one. The Town & Country is a distinct step up from the Grand Caravan/Voyager; it's option- laden with no compromises. It feels very solid and well-made, and equally at home on the highway or in the city. Mileage is only so-so, but that pretty much comes with the territory with such a large and roomy vehicle. If earlier years had any quirks or problems, they seem to be gone by the 1998 model. We've put in routine maintenance only, it's been trouble free.
240,713 miles
Had to memorialize the old family fan; it was taken away for recycling today after 14 years of faithful service. It probably would have lasted longer except it was driven exclusively by my kids for the last five years and was abused terribly. Near the end it was using a quart of oil a week. Never the less it was a great kid hauler.
First Minivan - love it
We just purchased our first minivan with 84K miles. It is absolutely perfect, single owner with low miles. Kids love it and we can't wait to take our first road trip (the dog get to go too!)
Lots of Miles and I still love it!
This is the second Town and Country I've owned and with 91,000 miles on it, I can report it has been virtually trouble free. Far superior build quality to my first one (1994). One electronic component and one speaker have been replaced, both under waranty, but that's it for unscheduled work. The overall comfort of the ride for driver and passengers is what makes this a pleasure to drive. Long trips are a breeze in this vehicle.
The perfect vehicle
This van has been the perfect vehicle for us. I have hauled 4x8 sheets of sheetrock and paneling with all the seats in and out. 12 ft. long 2x12's also fit with the rear door closed. All the seats are comfortable, rear heat/air c. works great, and the compass/mileage calculator/miles till empty feature is near priceless. AWD has been a great feature on our snow & ice covered streets/highways in Minnesota. After 10 yrs.& 118000 miles, we have replaced the battery and tires twice, front brakes once, at 100K. That is it for repairs. Mileage is 23 hwy & 16 city. Quite acceptable for me. We love this van.
Best van around
I inherited this van from my father. I have driven several other models and makes of minivans -- this is the best driving, most comfortable of all. It is a solid vehicle, feels safe and yet is powerful. Fuel mileage is only problem, about 20mpg. The back seats are removable, but are very heavy -- still, I can remove them in order to fit large items. The front seats are extremely comfortable and adjustable, only wish we had heated seats!
Phenomenal upscale family hauler
What a great minivan. We bought it anticipating the birth of our 3rd baby, and it has delivered in a big way. Roomy, quiet, comfy, plenty of gitty- up, all the bells and whistles. We especially like the quad seating, which allows access to the 3rd row without getting out. Average 18 mpg, wonderful family hauler. We like it so much we're looking for another Chrysler for me!
One of the best minivans
Does all you could want for minivan. Beats any SUV hands down in ALL respects - room, comfort, cargo space.
never again
What a disappointment. Purchased new for over $30K, parts were breaking almost immediately. It had an oil leak that I took to different dealerships with no results until the vehicle came out of warranty, same with the breaks. This vehicle was very poorly made, and I will never buy Chrysler again!
Nice Car But Loud Idle Rattle
We bought our van used with 76,000 miles. It is a pleasure to drive and we love the comfort inside. We have taken several long trips in it and it performed marvelously. We now have 138,000 miles and are looking at buying another used van.
Chrysler Mini van
Excellent vehicle to drive. Love the heated seats! Air conditioning is excellent in front and back.
Loved Owning It
I'm about to trade in my 98 Town and Country for a newer, but used, one. Except for wishing it had a moon roof, its lower ground clearance than my previous Toyota Previa had, and wishing the 3rd row seats folded down flat into the floorboard, there's not a thing I would change. Now that it's got about 80,000 miles on it, I'm looking at a 2000-2002 upgrade of the same vehicle.
Recent problems
88,000 miles evaporator under the dash had to be replaced: $675 92,000 new transmission and axle: $3500 93,000 new computer and other related equipment: $1400 Annually new brakes: $70 Biannually new roters: $100 Until recently this car has been reliable but now it is a drain on my finances. I had a 92 minivan and put in 2 transmissions. I don't think I will buy another chrysler product ever again.
minivan
Good all around vehicle
first van a success
Finally grew up and bought a van for carpooling. Overall an excellent vehicle. Catastrophic transmission failure at 90K miles. Wife has enjoyed roominess. Beautiful exterior styling. Very comfortable to drive. Great gold paint job- never been waxed and still maintains its original sheen. Poor quality leather used in seats - cracked terribly within one year.
disappointed
this van is all looks and luxury with no durability. i started noticing electrical problems, little lights on the radio going out. no problem at first. then automatic doorlocks went out. brake-light came on when i turned. open door alarm came on during driving even though all doors were closed. the week before i traded it off, it became obvious that this van was heading for a major breakdown. the battery went completely dead and after i replaced it the airconditioner and rear-window heater didn't work anymore. i had it at chrysler repair-shops at different times and they couldn't find any problems. this van had 130,000 miles on it when i traded it in, but i expected more of that car.
Pleasantly surprised
Bought used (June '02) with just shy of 60K miles. Van has performed flawlessly for over 3 years/39K miles. AWD performs very well in rain and snow. Have made two 1,400 mi. trips and one 2,000 mi. trip without using a drop of oil or experiencing a single problem. Averaged 22.5 mpg on recent trip from Ohio to SC and back with over 97K on the clock. Could not ask for more than how this van has performed thus far. Great exterior lines for a kiddo hauler.
Grand Caravan Sport
One of the most pleasant driving vehicles there is on the open road. A nuisance to get around town in for me. My wife has no trouble. Heads had to be milled about 120,000 and rear wheel bearing went at 90,000. Driver's side electric window motor was replaced. Overall,a good vehicle, but would buy the shorter version.
Fancy family ride
Bought the Chrysler T&C minivan when it was 4yrs old. It had been a soccer mom's van and was still in great condition in/out. We love the roomy enterior, and especially the extraspace in the hatch/rear area. Our other minivan (in fact most we've ever been in) is way smaller. When comparing the T&C to our basic Dodge mini, the Chrysler is much more of a luxurious feel, and quiet. Smooth ride, plenty of room for everyone'sluggage on longtrips. Nice stereo, cupholder, and AC that has great rearvents, cold I loved it especially with infants. It made nursing them easy while sitting in one of the separate seats in the back (great armroom.) Way better than wrangling infant/toddlers in sedan
Expensive vehicle horrible reliability
This was a great vehicle till we got over 70,000 miles on. Since have had it in the shop @ least 8 times for electrical/ not starting issues. The shop could never resolve the problem. All the gauges stop working while driving, still drives, but it is scary. They ask a lot for these new and I would never in my life buy another Chrysler product, not to mention some of the deaths related to these vans and Chrysler did not help the deceased family in the least. Steer clear of these. Sounds like a death trap to me. I'll probably have to give mine away because, so far I have NOT found a single dealer or person that will even look at it.
Best car I owned
We have now put 127,000 miles on it and it has been the most reliable vehicle we've ever owned.
What a nice vehicle!
I bought the vehicle on a whim. My wife swore she would never drive a mini-van, so I bought one with 140K miles for $5800.00 (a steal). With the exception of an ABS speed sensor needing replacement 9 months later, the car has needed nothing. The car now has 151K miles and runs like a champ. The wife's Mercedes collects dust in the garage! With 3 kids, it's the ideal luxury family vehicle. She'll never be without an LXI again. In all, the best auto value available, hands down.
98 town&country 1st timer
2 weeks ago I got the 98 T&C mini van with 235K miles in a very poor TLC conditions but after a little elbow grease and clean up I have to say that I’m very happy with that old bucket. Only issues I have right now: 1- rear windows stoped working a couple of days ago. 2- not much room for 300lbs driver 3- power steering kinda gets hard sometimes when parking 4- 🤔

241,000 and still going
Bought at a dealer, only one owner B4 me, engine and transmission still sound. Rack started leaking at 220,000 miles. Might get it fixed just to see how much more it will last. Has been great for us, towing capacity sucks.

COMPITENCE IN MANUFACTURING
I AVERAGE OVER 20 MILES PER GALLON WITH A 3.8 LITER ENGINE. ONLY PROBLEM WAS WITH THE COMPUTER, WHEEL BEARING, AND FAN SWITCH WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS THE THIRD ONE OWNED AND THE BEST YET. IT SEEMS TO GET BETTER AS IT GETS OLDER.
