I purchase it with 40k miles from chevy dealership. First repair was after 4k mile, air intake had some issues. Wheel bearin broke down on 65k as i expected to happen sooner or later. Nightmare started after 90k with fuel trim. I changed front fuel pump,O2 sensors and still my has a problem with fuel trim and MPG. Spark plugs and timming belt changed on 90k and transmission fluid on 100k. Still runing somehow with 109k,but i dont really recommend it to buy it with over 70-80k miles.

This car has some pretty stiff competition in the Camry, Accord, Altima and Sonata, but I wanted to buy American from a local dealer, if I could. After comparing, I was impressed enough to buy the Malibu. It's roomy, quiet, comfortable, powerful, and pretty nice looking. The electronics features (OnStar, Bluetooth phone integration, XM radio, driver info system) are handy and work great. Fuel economy was a concern for me, based on ratings, but I've been averaging 31 in my daily commuting (mostly highway) and I've measured tanks of 34 and 36.

My 2013 Malibu 2LT is having a major issue that can cause a serious accident.. The steering and all electronics shut down while I'm driving. The motor remains running but all electronics shut completely down. The dealer won't fix this issue and I will put the biggest lawsuit on Chevy if I get into an accident

Feel smart for buying this car

The ride of this car is very smooth and very quiet. It's not going to win any contests in the 0-60MPH area, but it will get 30-32 MPG in mixed highway and city driving.Strictly highway driving will yield at least the 37mpg that it's rated for and possibly more depending how heavy your foot gets.Previously had an Acura TL,and I can say that the Malibu outshines the TL in nearly every category.Interior materials including leather are high quality. MyLink system fully integrates with my iPhone including putting album art on the screen. This car is a joy to drive and when I look around at other sedans like the TL or the Lexus IS I feel pretty smart with my decision to buy the Malibu for much less

I've had my '13 Malibu LTZ for a handful of months now. Bought it used with 31k miles on it. Around 34k miles I had to replace one of the rear wheel bearings, but fortunately it was still under warranty. I do have to say I am not getting good mpg at all. I have had tanks down at 22.5mpg and as high as 27.5mpg, so nowhere near the claimed mpg. Trans d/n shift smoothly at all especially on downshift. Other than that, love the car! Great design, very comfortable, great radio with Bluetooth and XM. Better than some more expensive cars of same year. Owned a '05 Malibu Classic, gotta say, Chevy has come a long way with this car! Definite buy for the $! Better value when buy used

We purchased our LTZ last week. The color and interior we wanted, White Diamond and Brownstone, was not available in the Chicago area. Our dealer found the car we wanted in Indiana a three hour drive away. We are very pleased with the car which has the Electronics pkg, LTZ Premium pkg and Advanced Safety Pkg. It is very quiet and comfortable. My wife drives the car and has shared that she has received compliments from from people she does not know. This is a car we may have for a while.

2013 Malibu ECO 2SA

I can't understand all of the negative reviews about this car that are out there from certain publications. I now have 3000 miles and simply love this car. I just did a 880 mile one way trip on all interstate driving and averaged 34.3 mpg. This is while driving between 70 & 77 mph all of the way. Under regular driving, 55-60, I have attained over 40 mpg while commuting to work (18 miles one way). Some publications say to purchase the Camry, Pris or Sonota hybrids over this car. Go ahead and price them out using 2SA option, add a sunroof and see what price you get. I found that I was able to get exactly what I wanted, without getting other options that I didn't want or need with the Malibu.

This 2013 Malibu is all the reasons we used to buy import cars. It's quiet inside, good looking on the outside, has amazing tech, plenty of power, gets great gas mileage( 31 MPG rural driving), excellent paint work, all priced lower than most everything else. I don't know why GM couldn't or didn't build cars like this 30 years ago; I am just glad they do now. I was going to lease a Camry SE to replace my aging Tundra which needed several VERY expensive repairs (!!!!) but the Malibu has more equipment and is 30% less in both down money and monthly payment. Best of all the 2013 Malibu is SO much better looking than the "dopey" looking 2013 Camry. Gotta love the cool blue interior illumination.

I bought a '13 Malibu ECO last week and have been loving it. Compared to other mid size cars I've driven, this new Malibu is something special. It offers a rewarding, precise drive, highly refined drivetrain, top-of-the-class interior, and great seats for tall people. Its compromises are an only moderately impressive fuel economy figure and moderate size interior. I have owned some very fast cars, and the suspension on this car is one of the most impressive I have driven. It manages to have luxury-level refinement while being very precise and settled during high speed cornering. If you're looking for a mid size car with very high refinement, this is it.

Love this Malibu. I traded my 2010 2LT with 59k miles for this ECO 2SA with leather. I travel city/hwy and was getting 24MPG now I am getting 29 MPG City/Hwy. Less engine noise and more power. Shuts engine off at stop lights, restarts when I remove my foot from the brake, seamless.

So, I really love the '13 Malibu, everything is really good, the car is beautiful, gets really good gas mileage thanks to the auto-start stop feature, but one thing that bothers me about the Malibu is the front headroom, I'm 6'2, but the Malibu's front headroom is what bugs me the most, when I get in the car, I can BARELY fit in, but all-in-all the Malibu is an EXCELLENT starter's car.

As others, I compared most of the mid-size vehicles. I wanted to buy American (if that is really possible nowadays). Each car has their own benefits, and despite media comments, none really stand out as a clear leader of the pack. Be careful if you select this model. Its still a fine vehicle, though there are some issues. The 13 Eco is one of a kind, as it appears to be discontinued in 14 (the base 2.5L gets the same mpg). Many of the features advertised in the normal vehicles are not in the Eco. Mine was advertised to have 10 airbags, though only has 7. Nor does it have the MyLink radio, so forget about Pandora and the other neat features. I recommend waiting for a 2014.

This is my third Chevrolet product and never a problem. They really build a great truck and automobile. I was and wax regulary and it looks like the day I drove it out of the showroom. So many standard featrues and great comfort. I always service at the dealer and feel like I've saved a ton of money and issues. Absolutley care free driving these past 3 years for me. If you find a clean, low mileage one, buy it.

STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE DRIVING

2013 Malibu with 47,000 miles. Purchased 2015 (Certified Pre-owned) Dealership charged me to resolve a steering wheel locking issue. The problem was caused by the battery cable connector wire not holding it’s voltage. The dealership states that this issue falls under normal ware on the vehicle and it is not covered under my warranty or the extended warranty I purchased. How could a safety issue possible fall under Normal ware. The response from dealership, extended warranty person and Chevrolet Corp has been complacent. NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP ME WITH THIS MANNER. I feel I should no pay for the repairs ($737). The only person who recognized this as a safety issue was the mechanic that worked on my car. He test drove the car and experience the steering wheel locking while driving in the middle of a round about. The only way to resolve the issue at that time was to turn the car off then on. You can well imagine how frightened when this happened to me. The Chevy Malibu is being advertised as an electronic car of the future. How can you state that when the cable wires connected to the battery can’t handle the pull of multiple devices.

The redesigned 2013 Malibu looks and drives nothing like the 2012 model. This car is an extremely comfortable drive and the seats hug you. It features a quiet interior which you will really notice on those drives on the interstate. In addition to the redesigned interior, Chevy redesigned the gearing to get a car with a total average of about 30mpg city/highway. In short, if you are looking for a reliable car with a sleek look this is the car to have.

50K and climbing without issue

Tested other cars in this class and decided to go with Malibu based on those tests. The 2.5L engine does very well, interior comfort is excellent with both front seats having electronic controls, the ride is very quiet and the handling is superior to the Accord, Optima, Sonata, Camry or Fusion. The only car that had a slightly better ride was the Buick Regal which was another $2K. Just turned 50K on miles and the car still rides and handles like it rolled off the showroom floor. I have installed a K&N air filter and that has given me about a 4% increase in fuel mileage. I am averaging 25-26mpg in city and 28+ on the highway with a best of 33mpg. Entertainment system is also extremely good with easy to use touch screen and excellent Pioneer speakers that produce great sound. I work on my own cars and this vehicle has been very easy to maintain. oil changes are a snap and other service needs are minimal and easy to perform. I am considering the purchase of another Malibu (used) for my daughter when she graduates from college. If you are considering the Malibu as your next vehicle, you will not be disappointed.

I wouldn't recommend this car to my worst enemy, after changing the intake and exhaust solonoids twice in 7 years cause if not it would die while driving, then the timing chain decided to snap just under 120k miles and ruined the motor, thanks GM it made it past 100k miles but next time build a cars that lasts.

This car has been nothing but a lemon from Day 1! It was purchased with under 40,000 miles on it. Within the first week, it broke down. The battery dies constantly no matter how many times you replace it with a new battery! It has had starter issues, ignition switch issues (after getting it “fixed” per the recall), brake issues and now the entire motor has locked up and it is not operable. Well, it would be operable if I wanted to sink thousands of more dollars into this lemon. No thank you! Done with this car!

DANGER! NO SPARE TIRE!

Dave H., 06/27/2016

This car has no spare tire. If you actually drive this car outside the city on real highways and roads you need to be aware that you are not prepared for the most common of all road hazards- a flat tire. In the place where the spare tire should be is a tiny plastic air pump with a small amount of sealant. The sealant will leak out onto the ground and leave a puddle of white glue and the air pump is of insufficient power to inflate the tire. You're out of luck. This is a cynical and shameful way to treat your customers Chevy.

Personally, this is probably my favorite car in its class....handsomely designed inside and out, a somewhat powerful 4cyl thats excellent on fuel and of course MyLink standard on most models. I've gotten comments from people i didn't even know how much they like the car and what it even is in the first place cause they aren't common around here. Overall its great, i'd highly recommend it to anybody looking for a mid-size sedan. Don't listen to the media on this one..its not a toyota camry so of course they're going to give it a bad review.

This is the third Malibu we have purchased since 2004 (from the same dealer and the same sales representative) and each model has been better than its predecessor. The 2013 model has an excellent power train – the 2.0 liter turbo charged 4-cylinder engine, coupled with the new 6-speed automatic transmission, performs better than the 3.0 liter V6 engine in our previous 2008 model. The interior and exterior are both well designed, the interior is comfortable, and the car drives and rides well. I have only driven the vehicle 200 miles to date so can’t comment on fuel economy yet, although my first top-up suggests that it will meet the EPA city mileage estimate.

I have the LT model with the "upgraded interior", bought in mid-Dec 2012. I find that I am absolutely unable to get the power driver's seat into a comfortable back position, no matter how I adjust the many electric controls. The lumbar adjustment is completely crazy. It sticks out WAY too much, even on the most "reduced" setting. Otherwise, I have had only 2 issues: 1) Brake lights would not go out after releasing brake pedal because pedal was not coming back up on it's own (needed a new pedal assembly) 2) Steering wheel not centered; wheel was positioned slightly to the right as car was driven straight (needed alignment)

I dont know if anyone else has yet to have this horrible experience yet, but I can definitely feel yet another recall coming on for these cars... I loved that car too!!

This is a nice car, not a great car but a nice car. It does whjat it was made to do, take 4 or 5 people from one place to another in some comfort. It is the first American car I have owned in 20+ years and yes The American car industry has come a long way but.... why do they scrimp on little things that would make the car a pleasure instgead of just O.K.? Windows that one touch going down but not up? No internal trunk release? Power seats on one side only? and no going up and down does NOT make the seat power. No spare tires? Not run flats either.. It could use a bit more power too. I will say for the price it is a nice car.

We bought this car used--1 year old-- in July. Less than 2000 miles later both rear wheel bearings went out. I sold my 1995 Cadillac @ 217000 miles and had never replaced a wheel bearing. I have a 2002 Suburban with 190000 miles on it and have never replaced a wheel bearing. A month later the water pump failed... When does a vehicle with less than 23,000 miles on it have a water pump fail? So, 6 months later, one of the replacement wheel bearings failed. Also the dash lights fail to come on randomly--the dealership can't figure it out.

Just as I got 60,000 miles the car started to have engine problems. Too expensive to keep fixing on.I wonder what is next?

This LT model is amazing and drives smooth , interior beats any car i have driven and has a sexy look to it . the 2014 model is also a nice aggressive looking model i love them all!!!!!!

2013 Malibu LTZ Review

This has been a great car. With one exception, it has been the most comfortable, reliable car we ever owned, and that includes Hondas, VWs, Fiat, Fords, a Pontiac, and Olds and a Renault.. Unfortunately that one thing is the engine. It had to be replaced around 39,000 miles. Not rebuilt, but replaced due to a spark plug issue that went wild. It did not leave us stranded, but there were warnings.Chevrolet replaced the engine and provided a loaner. No other repairs have been required and the car now has 83,000 miles.

NO SPARE TIRE!

Having my 2013 Malibu for 3 months now, my only problem is that the car comes with NO SPARE / SPACE SAVER TIRE. No where in the the brochure or window sticker did it say you get an air pump. Nor did the sales rep say anything. When I realized there was nothing in the pit I went back to the dealer and was told that I could by a space saver, jack and tools for $500-. GM Customer Support say sorry: all you get is an air pump and Roadside Assistance. If you've ever had a blow out or a tire damaged by road debris, a pump is useless; and no, I don't care to wait hours for roadside. GM needs to wise up and and give the customer the option!

I picked this car up to be my wife's everyday driver - love it, the stop/start feature is great going back and forth to work every day in bumper to bumper traffic - she's got a little over 5k miles on it so far and she's be averaging 32 mpg combined, took it on one reasonably long trip and got 39 mpg - the 2.4 ecotec was one of Wards 10 best engines - car is very quiet, zero wind noise, even at highway speeds - however, the low rolling resistance tires pronounce road noise, that being said, it's still more quiet than any other vehicle in the segment

Miss my (quiet) 2009 Malibu LS

I agree that my 2013 is all around much improved on than my traded 2009 LS. I have to say I am let down since I was anticipating a quiet cabin ride as all the auto site reviewers have endorsed. Well, I am not experiencing the "quiet" in my new malibu. I have a annoying vibration/buzz that presents itself when in low gear/ between gears but faithfully dissapears when I accelerate. Did'nt notice this during test drive otherwise I would of hung on to my 2009 Malibu!

HUGE MISTAKE

After having my 1996 Honda Accord from 2013 until December 2020 when I was hit head-on - I had to borrow a vehicle to get to and from work. As frugal as I try to be even though I am only 27, I knew it was time to find my 2nd car so I began the painful process of car searching. 30+ trips to different dealerships and a few private owned, I finally came across this one. 2013 Chevy Malibu LT Eco Tec. 81,000 miles for $13,000.00. I had done quite a bit of research and even told the salesman I NEED a reliable car that will last, be good on gas and have enough space to haul my big dogs around. They showed me this car and I was in LOVE. Such a big step up from my old Honda Accord. I bought it on Saturday April 24, 2021. Fast forward to 3 days later April 28, 2021, it starts dying out while stopped in a period of 30 minutes, it did it 7 times. First few times it just turned off but then it would start shaking a lot and acted like it was going to die out until it finally did. I was so happy and proud for 3 days. WOW... I love Chevy, my Dad's 2004 Silverado is still going strong and since he passed, I always dreamed of having a Chevy too. The dealership has the Malibu now and are supposedly going to fix it but after reading more into this, it seems Chevy completely missed the mark with this car. I think I will cut my losses and get my hard earned $$$ back. I have saved up for almost a decade and this is what I get. I am so discouraged and do not know how I am going to trust another dealership or the one I purchased it from ever again. 2013 Chevy Malibus are LEMONS!!!!

I can only find a couple things I would do differently with this car which are include a full size spare with the same alloy wheel that's on the car, and include fog lights on all the models. Now let me start by expressing how much I love this car. I love this car! Chevrolet hit the ball out of the park on the 2013 Malibu. This car looks really great, I get compliments all the time. The car is so quiet inside when being driven, he handles very well, pretty good acceleration too. The fit and finish in this car with the blue accent lighting allows me to really relax at night and enjoy the ride!

Love my Malibu but do not like the flimsy lip

This car is fantastic in so many ways. Just after purchase we took a trip up into the Arizona white mountains and the Malibu handled the climbs with ease. My only complaints are that the car is a little jerky in shifting at lower speeds, the lip under the front bumper is very flimsy and has already fell apart, and the interior roof console where the built in garage door opener was pretty loose when we bought the car. As far as the lip, the dealer refused to cover it under warranty, but, they are replacing the roof console to secure it better. The only thing that secures the lip to the plastic lip bracket is glue. I am going to try pop rivets.

Good looking, comfortable, still gets great gas mileage (all around driving mileage is ~32 miles per gallon), great sound system, handles well. Used to have a problem syncing I-phone, but that problem was resolved with an upgrade on my I-phone.

Purchased 2013 Malibu from dealer last week. best car I ever had!!! Only 57200 miles, I thought there was something wrong, engine was sputtering ? but read the manual, the engine shuts off ! the electric engine kicks in, when I hit the gas, the engine restarts !!!! unreal technology !! smooth, quite, loaded with options that I will never figure out, but , I love this car.

Chevy Malibu 2013

Have had the Chevy 1LT Malibu for about a month now. Traded in a 2006 Honda Pilot with almost 100K. Hard to trade in but it eats gas like nothing. Really like the better gas mileage. Not fantastic but a big step up. We also have a 2012 Honda Accord. The Accord gets better gas mileage and is zippier and shifts gears smoother. But, the Malibu feels like a really nice luxury car. I really like it better. In fact, my 18 year old likes it much better than the Accord. More bells & whistles. Will be interesting to see the reliability in the future for both. But, I have more faith in GM now than in the past. As far as OnStar navigation which is free for 6 months, not impressed.

This is a Great car. I have 2000 miles on the car and am averaging 30 MPG. I drive some freeway but mostly city/suburb. As long as you don’t speed or drive aggressively you will get at or above EPA estimated fuel mileage. Also, the fit and finish and ride quality is very good.

Practically no leg room in back seat, trunk has very limited usable space because of battery. The electric motor really helps on steep up hill starts. Fuel mileage is much below what I expected. 26 in combined driving, and has never topped 30 on the highway. I was expecting 35 on hwy. Getting in and out a bit tricky for a person with a bad back. I bought second hand but have put over 20k on it in about 4 years. Have to give it 4 stars as I still like the car in spite of short comings.

After owning a 2008 Honda Accord and then test driving a 2013 Honda Accord I opted to buy the 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco after test driving it. I was impressed with the interior road noise as well as the exterior and interior design. It reminded me of my 2010 Camaro I use to own. I only have 100 miles on it so I will update this review in a few thousand miles. Hopefully it will be positive.
