Put to rest

I purchased the LS new. After 140,000 the cat converter died. There were mechanical problems that seemed more frequent then I would have hoped. Good overall considering all the stop & go of Los Angeles. Brakes and tires performed well. Replaced battery after 5 years, spark plug wires needed replacing. No transmission problems, no electric motor problems.

So far, so good.

3.8 engine - smooth, quiet, and responsive. Brakes - excellent. Transmission - smooth as silk (Chrysler, take note). Solid. Styling just different enough to generate excitement, but not goofy-looking like an Aztec. Heard many positives about this 3.8 engine; now I see why. Better legroom than most. Looked very seriously at the Accord and Camry - thinking about resale - but to say those cars are not in the same class is an understatement. Dozens of features that I will enjoy that are not engineered into or offered on those two. Trade-in isn't everything - the total driving experience counts for a lot.

I loved my toyota but I am in love with mt Impala LS. It handles like a dream, you don't feel it moving. It is quiet, corners beautiful and is just plain fun to drive. This is what I call my "Oh my God" car because that is what I said when I saw it and drove it.

What an outstandingly well-built car! I have to take issue with the editor's comments about "wallowy suspension," and "low-buck interior". Our Impala LS is tight, roomy, comfortable and just flat FUN to drive! Someone here mentioned it's not meant for those 5' 7" and over. Well, I'm 6' 3" and this is one of the few vehicles I can actually stretch my legs in. All this AND a 5-star rating for safety?? Why would anyone consider anything else??

I bought this car as a demo model. I am the original owner and have had all the recommended maintenance done on it. This car still gets me 27MPG around town and almost 30 MPG on the interstate. I am 5'10" and I can set the driver seat where I want it, sit in the back seat and still have plenty of room.
