Bought used in summer .when it got cold n needed heat the heater would work then cold air would come out .I shut the car start it again it worked then cold until it was all cold air coming out my vents .no heat the dash has to be taken out to fix which will be over $900.00 to fix .I drive with no heat 4 winter's now .sucks .engine light on .trouble putting gas in no air conditioner ABS/traction lights on since I got it .I replaced wheel bearings all 4 tires ..I dont have a oil leak but always putting oil?? I feel Chevy could have stood behind this mess they made in 2006 but no recalls even thou everyone who has this year equinox has the same problems .I know I will not look at another Chevy to buy ever!!! At night my dash is lit up like a Christmas tree .way to much wrong with this vehicle.
My first SUV
I have had this car for 11 months, and have put 20K miles on it. I absolutely love it. It handles well on the highway and on the congested city streets. It has good pick up and handling. I have had no problems at all. With as much as I drive, it is nice that the gas milage is good. My family and friends like that the back seat has plenty of room and moving seats.

Great looks, good ride, poor qualities
I love the way the vehicle looks, the decent power of the engine is sufficient and the transmission performs flawlessly. I don't like that I can't check the transmission fluid level. It has poor design quality of the interior(seating stiff). The leg room is exceptional and recommended for taller people, front and back seats. It is lacking in fuel economy, I avg.18mpg, and under performs around corners and steering quality is under performing overall. It is a great riding vehicle but I get a lot of road noise from the windows. The poor design of the rubber fittings on the windows allow for a lot of slipage around the windows when you roll them up, if you roll the window down you can pullitoff
Can't Complain
I've had my Equinox for 2.5 years and I have 30,000 miles on it. I love it. Gas mileage is great and seems to keep getting better-- I get about 22 mpg combined city/hwy. Once I got over the 20K mile mark, the mileage increased. The comfort level is great and back seats have enormous legroom and ample headroom. Interior and exterior quality is up to par. It's not a BMW, but it's not what it should be. I've considered trading it in on other new SUVs like a Hyundai, Kia, or HHR... but why? I get the same gas mileage and it has more room. I wish the warranty was longer; although (knock on wood) I've had no problems and have kept it regularly maintatined. Excellent truck & value!
Great car
I have had this vehicle for about two months and love it! The exterior styling of this car is sporty and fun. The interior could use a little work, but for the cost it's pretty good quality. Gas mileage is reasonable at about 19-21. The leather driver seat is very comfortable, but the back seats are kind of hard. I love the steering wheel buttons for the stereo and cruise control, it's so much easier to reach while driving. I traded my '01 Blazer for this car. Even though my old car was comfortable, I love how much more modern this Equinox is.
Problems Already!
I have had this vehicle 1 month and it has been in shop 5 times and still has rattle when I hit bumps. It is getting 14.3 mpg in town and I am told that is normal. It rides great if I don't hit any bumps. It is roomy and I like the way it is arranged inside. All in all, I need to get rid of bump and get better gas mileage or my next vehicle will be another Toyota!
If you want better MPG, drive a compact!
This is a great little SUV. But it is just that, an SUV. If you want 30 MPG buy a compact. I downsized from a Ford V- 10 pick-up so obviously I am thrilled with the gas mileage. Other than one minor flaw, I love this SUV. Looked at the Pacifica and am glad I chose the Equinox.
Great Alternative to Traditional SUV
The Equinox has been great, no mechanical problems/defects to-date. AWD is great for winter driving.
Luv the car, hate the wheel radius
I hunted around several dealerships lookning for various models of small SUV. This auto gets about the same if not a little better mpg than my Silverado pickup. The 1 thing that always fools me is when trying to pull into a parking space, I always need to start the turn early, due to this wide wheel base.
NOX Needs Work, but still nice
My husband got our Nox as a free employee car. We like it, but I wouldn't buy this if it wasn;t free. The seats are not comfy and the silver color on the dash comes off easily- looks very cheap. It drives nicely enough, but I feel like the windshield is too far away. The power plug for cell phone is under the cupholder (duh!) and all that dead space under the console is really hard to keep clean. This vehicle looks great, but we wish it had better gas mileage. Great storage in the trunk and back seat. I will be buying a Honda CRV soon... nuff said.
Great SUV
I spend 6 hrs a day driving my 'Nox and I love it. Only one small issue fixed by my dealer immediately (clunking Lift gate support)-I am very happy with this car- I traded a few year old Grand Cherokee and for what I save in gas almost pays for my Nox
Nice Midsize SUV
Overall, very glad to have traded-in a low-mile Acura for this new SUV. Performance is nice because torque peaks early; keeps the engive from having to work hard. Smooth, quiet, and the electronic assisted steering is very easy. My wife really enjoys the entertainment system and I feel comforted from the safety options, crash ratings, and OnStar satellite support system. Wife gets 16MPG city and almost 25 highway, not me.
Falling apart one Piece at a Timne
Heater door broke, was quoted $1500 by local GM dealership ($250 for parts and $1100 for labour plus taxes) , charged me $50.85 to diagnose the problem, car had 77,500 kms. Contacted GM repeatedly - got voice mails, never spoke to "Jane" in person. Went out of town to another GM dealer paid $750 for repair, in December in Canada you cannot drive without heat or defrost. Feel "ripped off" , now the leather upholstery is splitting. Had to replace Bridgestone tires at 45,000 kms. Not happy with GM .... inferior product and by the lack of response I have to assume that they don't really care! My experience answers the question for me "why are so many people not buying North American cars
Excellent SUV
I really did some reserach on this class of SUV's and decided on the Nox. I couldnt be happier. Great ride, smooth shifting, great styling. Also, very safe.. with excellent crash ratings on all four sides as well as side curtain airbags. Great for kids, lots of legroom and space for them!
Never Again
This Vehicle looked sharp once I brought it home. unfortunately that's when all the issues started. Dealerships were not helpful at all. Everything had a price to fix. Interior dash lights out only lights half of the odometer/fuel gauge etc. ABS and TC light have been on for 4 years have asked to have it checked. $105.00 to look at the problem (not warrantied, should be a recall) Gas guzzler, can't get 450km's off a tank, city or highway. Turning radius poor. Going back to Honda
Dissapointed Equinox Owner
My Husband and I purchased this SUV new at the dealership. We were so excited about owning a new car, our first, only to be disappointed a few months later when our starter started to "act funny". It sounded as though it was still cranking but the engine wouldn't start. We took it into the dealer but nothing was found. Few months later, same problem and same result. We drove our car the next few years hoping for the best with the same problem hoping it would turn on when we got in. Finally just last week we decided to get rid of it because we just couldn't rely on it. I would not recommend this vehicle. Save your money folks, and find a reliable car!
Problem Child
The turning radius is horrible, the center console is garbage. It collects everything and is in constant need of attention. Problems with my 'nox: It never seemed to go into gear. Every time I put into drive I had to play with it. Drive, Park, Drive till the gear would finally catch. The dealer tried to fix 3 times. Windshield washer fluid sprayer front in back is just horrible. Very cheap leather seats, feels like vinyl. Interior design: looks very cheap and plain, typical though- for American cars. The front end would shake if I had to jam on the brakes past 55mph. The worst car ever in the snow even with new tires. This is why American car companies are failing, lack of detail.
Will never own another chevy especially an equinox
Car shakes going up any hills, when it rains a hard rain it sokes the floors water pours in on me, when it rains the low engine light comes on then the no traction light comes on and on only able to move the vehicle in reverse until I can get the lights off. The heat works but only get to a certin temputure and then it starts going cold. I have so many issues with this vehicle I will never own another chevy.

Just bought a Used 06 NOX!
I just bought an 06 Equinox with 69k miles on it. Really great price, low payments. So far it hasnt been any trouble at all. I hear a rattle somewhere in the stering column, like a small plastic piece is loose or something. I love drining it~ :-) I think I am happy so far. :-)
Issues as soon as it was out of warranty
As soon as my Equinox was out of warranty the problems started occurring. To date I've had to have the brakes replaced, the fuel cap, cellnoid, some other part for the emissions and now a fan has broken in the motor. In totally it has been almost $2000. I will never buy a GM product again!
Not What I Expected
I bought my Equinox brand new expecting to drive off without having any issues. Within my first year I began having starter problems & the dealership looked it over and says it's suppose to make the grinding sound, when I turn the key, it's a safety feature..yeah right! After 4 years now, I find myself having to turn the key twice to get the engine started. After the 3rd year, I started dealing with a/c problems and once again after being in the shop twice, Chevy can't seem to fix the problem. I called GM and all they can do is file a report and have me bring it back into the shop to pay Chevy more money to try and fix the a/c problem a third time. I will be trading this bad purchase in soon!
My Equinox is a lemon
I purchased my car in March of 2006. In Aug of 06, the rear differential had to be replaced with only 6300 miles on the odometer. In Nov of 07, May of 08 and Nov of 08, this car completely lost power while I was driving it. It only has 24,000 miles on it and the dealer has been unable to fix the problem although each time it had been serviced for this same problem, they seem to think that they have corrected it. This car is a potential deathtrap! It is only by sheer luck that I have not been driving 60 MPH on the highway when it loses power.
Typical GM quality
This car is VERY comfortable to drive. Peppy, roomy (love the movable back seat.)yet not cumbersome in tight spaces. Very nice size for a family car. The center console is pretty awkward. The window controls mounted in the center is still confusing after 3 1/2 years owning this car. Those are my only complaints about the design. But the quality-my goodness I have had innumerable light bulbs burn out, locking differentials break, break rotors ruined at 40K miles. Maybe I'm spoiled by my Honda Civic-but all this repair work on a car with less than 50 K seems a bit much.
Good maintenance, Great car
I bought this car just one year ago. I put 35,000 miles on it. It did not give me any problem. I am totally pleased with this car. engine runs very smooth. the only expenditure I made on this car are oil changes. I am chancing oil per 5000 miles. to sum up great car for the price.
A Waste of Engineering
We bought three identical ones for our company. So far two of the three have been very unreliable. One had the transmission completely rebuilt under warranty at 15000 and the second rebuilt at 26000. On all three the AWD is a complete joke. If you take off quickly on wet pavement you will spin the front tires for 1 or 2 seconds before the AWD engages. In snow and ice it is a complete joke. Leave it at home and drive something else. The center "console" is a joke as well as the location of the parking brake. It makes you wonder if a freshman design student came up with the plans. Really loud wind noise at speed on the highway that the dealers cannot remove.
Never again
I bought my Equinox brand new in 2006. Before hitting 20,000 the ignition switch went out and had an electrical problem. It still goes dead right after I crank it, but they say nothing is wrong with it. I have had 4 sets of brake pads in 6 weeks, other mechanical problems and it is in the shop right now as I type this for the 2nd time in 3 weeks for an "electrical" problem in the air conditioner. I like the car's look, but not all the problems it has come with. I would not recommend this car to anyone. It is the biggest piece of crap I have ever had. I am just waiting til the day I can trade it and not lose too much money.
Hate the Car
I have had my equinox for 1 1/2 yrs. I've had the window molds replaced 3 times, an electrical system replaced once. The weathering on my driver's door replaced once and now my rear drive unit is being replace. Thats along with the 4 times I had to have it pulled in because I couldn't jump the battery, then the battery was replaced. I thought the car was awesome. I live in ND and in the country so snow gets impacted in places and make sthe car run funny. It doesn't do well in the cold and lots of snow. I have decided that it wasn't worth my college graduation present as many problems as I've had with it, it leaves me with an unreliable vehicle.
Crash Survivor
I was t-boned on the drivers side by an Olds 88 7-7-08 at an intersection. My wife and two sons 8 & 6 were passengers. The force of the crash bent the floorboard causing the rear passenger wheel to buckle causing our SUV to roll. When it finally came to a stop we were laying on the driver's side facing the direction we came from. Surprisingly none of the air bags deployed. We all climbed out of the broken passenger windows with little more than minor scratches. I would give the Equinox a 10 for safety other than the extra chance of a roll-over crash that all SUV's have.
Good Utility
I purchased this 2006 vehicle replacing my 2001 toyota prius in 2005. I have over 53,000 miles on the car, no major work yet. I put synthetic oil in and change it every 5k, just bought new tires and breaks. Only had one tail light go out. Otherwise car runs excellent.
Good Value, Minor Improvements needed
This is my company car so I'm in it a lot. It has great looks and value for the price. It is very comfortable and powerful enough. It has been very reliable so far with no major repairs. Only exception is the windshield. I think the angle makes it prone to chipping, or the glass is not good enough. I'm on my 3RD one! Overall, this is a good car for the money. Blind spots and big turning radius are the only complaints.
Chevy strong after 5 years
I bought this vehicle with less then ten miles. I have not had any major problems with it since driving it off the lot in December 2005. Common water leaks in the rear compartment area. Took it to the dealer for a quick fix, no luck heavy rain, check back of truck. Vehicle becomes very unstable while on the highway and amongst big vehicle. The ride feels like the vehicle is not firmly on the road. The electric steering motor gives it a different feel than with a power steering pump. Along with the unpredictable ride, light weight, makes the driver anticipate the next steering maneuver no electrical problems, 46,000 miles on original brakes. Tires changed at 45,000 miles, ac no issues.
Wouldn't recommend the Equinox!
I purchased my Equinox in June of 2006. A year after puchasing it the back door areas were all chipped up and Chevy painted it for me as a good will. However a year later and it's chipped again. I have had to have the seal around the drivers door replaced. The seats are horrible, if you get even a drop of water on them it leaves a mark. The center console is cheap and pretty much useless. I heard a noise when I start it but can never be duplicated when taken to the dealer. I have recently noticed that when going up hills there is a hesitation and again the dealer can't duplicate. And now it is not always starting right away there is a hesitation.
Maintenace Headache
We bought it in 2005 and it was fine for about two years. The tires barely lasted two years, then the rotors warped and had to be replaced. Thought it was over, then nightmare started with the ABS engaging under normal driving conditions. Sound familiar, well it's a poorly designed system for the speed sensor. It means you will need to replace the complete wheel hub assembly and sensor....$390.00 just for the part. Better check the centre hanger bracket bearing for the rear axle on the AWD version, that fell apart too! Good luck finding that part. Yeah, its only three years old! Did I mention the heater box fell apart...no heat...a $90.00 part but $1000.00+ for labour to get it out!!
Capital "U" in Utility
At just over 38K miles... Where this vehicle shines is it's utility: we've towed an overloaded trailer from IL to AZ and moved an 8' couch in the cabin, just to name two examples. The cabin is spacious and comfortable (minus the stiff foam in the seats) for both people and cargo; the fold-flat front seats and sliding rear bench are brilliant. It rides nice and smooth, though the suspension makes a lot of noise over bumps. Decent fuel economy, despite the outdated engine paired with an "unsure" transmission (it likes to hunt for gears on even small grades). Only problems so far have been the battery that quit and was replaced under warranty, and the squeaks and rattles that suddenly appeared.
Heater problem
The heater blend door broke and was quoted a $1,100 repair to fix. The car has 65,000 km on it. I called General motors head office and complained about the problem. I made my appointment to repair the vehicle at my local GM dealership and when the job was complete my bill was $224.00. Head office instructed the dealership to run it through as a warranty claim. I would like to say that this kind of service really restored my loyalty to GM. All parties involved really went above and beyond what they needed to. Thank you GM
'06 Equinox (certified/used)
Bought this car for my new job as a sales rep. I travel a lot and have to load the car to capacity with heavy/bulky job supplies. This car has been great for me, handles fine in all weather conditions, looks good, and has just enough pep. I had a Honda Prelude before this and I thought gas mileage and pep would be a concern but it's been satisfactory considering that I load a lot of cargo in it. I think it's a great buy and would prefer it over the Vue. I disagree with many of the other negative posts on this SUV, maybe they expected more but I expected less. I do find it uncomfortable after long trips, but I drive a lot and any car would be the same, IMO.
If it isn't broke, don't fix it!
Just bought this vehicle and everything appears well. Carfax report checked out OK. Driveability is good, mpgs are lower than expected in town. Sharp looking SUV although my model has wheel covers instead of alloy rims. Power seems to be sufficient at 185 hp. 45,000 miles and only routine maintenance. Pleased so far. Only downfall, as several have mentioned, is the suspension noise from the front end. Very disturbing on less than perfect roads.
unsure
I have enjoyed my vehicle from day one, but, I am unsure about the design of the windshield, (angle), I have had to replace my windshield 3 times and need a 4th due to tiny rocks that have come from other cars on the road. I have owned other vehicle that when a small rock hits the windshield it MIGHT chip it but with the Equinox as I stated before its almost a sure thing that I will have to replace the whole windshield because the chips spreads immediately. Another thing that kind of makes me have doubts is the blindspots it has. I am almost done paying for it and I cant say will buy another.
Unhappy
I bought this almost 2 years ago. Seats stain easy and don't like the noise the AWD makes. Going to need new tires. I have a couple of friends that have this and agree with me.
Not too happy with it
I have had my Equinox for about a year and a half. When I first got it. I loved it! Now I can't wait to get rid of it. It just now has 25000 miles on it and it acts like it has over 100000 miles on it. I am taking it in to the dealership for service tomorrow. I have several issues that Chevy need to address. The fuel pump is making a loud "clunking" noise right after it is started. The drivers side window is not sealing porperly. The transmission is making terrible screeching noises and it doesnt like shifting into 3rd gear. Last year, chevy gave me a new set of tires because at 13,000 the tires were shot, but evenly worn. premature wearing. I have had the tires roated 2 times during that time.
Chevy equinox
When I got the suv I was so excited could not wait to take it home. The only problem it was having was when it started it was making some kind of noise after 2 years then battery did go out on me and I did have to replace it the front tires have to be replace. I am not going to complain. But over all I love it.
Great Small Crossover
I originally leased in May 2006. Toward the end of 2008 I started looking around to determine whether I wanted to keep my Equinox or trade it in for something else at the end of the lease. I couldn't find anything at the price with AWD, the size, and features. I have a very stipped down model, one of the few I have seen without tinted windows (I know this is an option on the LS, but most of the LS models I see still have them), but do have the Alloy wheels. I ended up purchasing my Equinox from lease since it was better than anything else I could find. I haven't had any major issues and it's still running strong! I've replaced the tires and front breaks and have about 61K miles.
Hate this car
I bought my Equinox in Oct 2008 with less than 300 miles on it. 6 weeks later, it had already been in the shop 3 times. It was pulling and it turns out I had defective tires. Now, 3 years later I have had to buy new tires again, had to get my rotors replaced three times in 6 months, and there are noises galore. Clunking, clicking, shaking, you name it. This car is a total lemon and I would get rid of it in a second if I didn't have so much negative equity in it!
Saved our lives
We only had our Equinox 8 months but it was one of the best vehicles we have ever owned. For an suv it got decent mileage, around 22 hwy which is all we drove in it. It was so fun to drive until we lost control by driving a little too fast in the rain and went head on with the concrete barrier at 65mph. The seatbelts and airbags hurt but did exactly what they should. Nox's designed was great! We both walked away from an accident that should have killed one of us. The frame was rolled under but we had no major injuries. If you want something dependable and very safe buy a Nox. We are going to pick out a new one now!
Love Hate Relationship
Like everyone else I have had issues. Just under 2 years the tires needed to be replaced. Wheel bearings were replaced under warranty and now that warranty is done need to be replaced again. There is a knock in the gas tank because something is loose. While driving on highway front console shuts off. No speedometer, tach etc. Problems with transmission. Seems to shift into neutral while driving. Cheap windshield wipers, all replaced after 2 years. Windshield chips and cracks very easily... poor design.. Headlight needed to be replaced after 3 years. Blind spots are very big and you need to be careful... Use your mirrors Key constantly sticks in ignition.
Unsettling Starts
We bought our Equinox, because of all the good reviews we read when they first came out. I have less than 31,000 miles and we have had to replace all 4 tires, front and rear brakes, have had a leak from the back (trunk) and replaced the weather stripping at a cost of $300.00. And today had to have it towed because the car just won't start. I had it in to the dealer because of the car not starting right away when I had turned the key, they told me that they would do a tune up and that should help and guess what did the same thing 2 days ago and now it won't start at all. I love the SUV over all.
I love my Eqinox
I bought my Equinox to have a higher, more comfortable interior than a car. The interior seems much larger than other vehicles I checked out. I has a very nice ride. I especially like the adjustable back seat to give more leg room to passengers. Mine also has a outdoor temperature feature that I like especially on winter roads to tell me when icy conditions may exist. My only concern is -- with 2000 miles on it, is getting 19.5 mpg around town.I hope this will improve. But it is a great vehicle and I could not be happier with it. I think GM should advertise the Equinox more.
Love My Equinox!
I have had no problems with the vehicle! Love to drive it - rides very smooth. Instruments are user friendly and easy to access. Performance and handing are great. I would definitely choose the Equinox again!
100,000 miles and going strong.
I purchased my Nox brand new in 2006. I have had a few issues with the wheel bearings. All have been replaced within 100,000 miles. Other than that it has all been basic maintenance. The tires on my vehicle were great (lasted 95,000 miles). I had my 100k maintenance completed a few days ago, oil, trans fluid, and filters changed. Everything is still running like brand new. Would definitely purchase another Nox when the time comes.
Nursemobile
I drive about 125 miles a day when I am working. I appreciate the pickup when driving on the freeway. I have experienced some transmission "jerk" on a quick acceleration - ie. getting on the freeway/passing on a double lane road. Satellite radio is a must for me as well as the heated seats.
