Just Purchased
Reason: cars are a challenge for my knees, getting in and out. Also we (mom and son) are 6'2 and 6'5, so we needed leg room. It drives nicely and I spoke with other Equinox owners who had nothing but nice things to say. Everybody's experience is different, but so far I've driven to work and back and the ride is smooth. I will have good gas mileage since my travel to work is mainly highway. Time will tell if I made a good decision.
Love that Equinox
I have been driving a van for the past 20 years. The Equinox is so superior to all of them. Easy to handle and VERY quiet....I can finally enjoy my music while driving. A great choice for families (the baby seat fits in so easily when I pick up my grandson). And I love that the front seat folds down flat to allow for long items (such as a tree from the nursery) to be carried home.

Very Nice
First time buying a new car. My wife needed something more reliable and we both loved her Montero. Found this at our local Chevy dealer and liked it rom the first test drive. Have drove it for a few months and have no real complaints. Love the seating and cargo area. VERY roomy in the backseat. The gas mileage is getting better every month with the more miles on it.
Fair
Turning in tight spots needs some attention. The mileage is not what as advertise. The mileage was my biggest disappointment. Other than those 2 items, I really like the Equinox and it's roominess for riding. I did not get all the options, but a fair share, I like the options I do have.
Chevy Equinox for the family
The Chevrolet Equinox is a great option for someone who wants an SUV that is comfortable, affordable, and doesn't want to feel like they are driving a tank. It is roomy, even adults have plenty of room in the back, it is also versatile for hauling cargo.
Nice vehicle
Really like it - turning radius takes a little while to get used to. Fuel mileage in town(usually what I drive) could be better. Highway miles good. Cloth on seats stain easily.
Never buying GM again
34,400 miles after 3 1/2 years and the the air conditioner dies. Find out the compressor is "coming apart internally." Needed a new one at over $900. Car wouldn't start. Found out the circuitry in the fuse box assembly was faulty; that needed to be replaced for over $700. Factory parts falling apart because they're GM junk. No wonder they only offered 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty. Not to mention that the front windshield collects snow so badly you need to clear it out mid-trip because the wipers just funnel it together. Turning radius is hideous as well. Basically a worthless GM vehicle.
Almost a world beater
This would be a great vehicle, if it wasn't for one huge problem. The gas mileage is total crap. My first tank I ran thru it at 65 mph on the freeway checked 20.5 mpg. The second tank was the same. If this doesn't change for the better soon, I will trade it off. I only have 600 miles on it right now, but it must make a major improvement. Otherwise I love it!
is okay to drive
Fun, very easy to park, excellent to drive on extreme weather. The only thing that the designer has to improve is the windshield area, when it snows you get a lot of acumulation there, you actually have to stop and clean the snow to continue driving safely.
One Year Evaluation
This is the first American vehicle I ever purchased. I am extremely pleased with the performance, design, color, and comfort. There is also plenty of room for 5 to fit comfortably. Its a sharp looking SUV. Thanks Chevrolet, you will always have me as a loyal customer.
Only Good for 5 Years
I loved this car when I bought it in 2004. It handled well in the snow. It was more like a truck, but it did the job. Unfortunately at about 65,000 miles, major things started to go wrong. The sway bar links,(which had to be replaced when I bought the car), had to be replaced- close to $900. Then, two head gaskets had to be replaced at about 69,000 miles- $850. Finally, the car began dying sporadically without explanation. There was an electrical problem, but Chevy would not acknowledge it. They began replacing things at random, only to have the car die again. Loved it at first, but traded it for a Subaru. Chevy claimed 70,000 miles was high mileage. I can't afford to own that type of car.
Fun Equinox
After 50,000 miles it's been a great car. The overall performance has been better than expected for the price. Very good on the interstate or the backwoods.
Bum Equinox
I loved my car from the moment I bought it but shortly after the problems started. It would start about 50% of the time and I had it in the shop several times before it was discovered that the fuel pump system had faulty parts. Recently the wiring system has become faulty and is blowing fuses to the point that my car literally dies! The trade in value is horrible and the gas mileage is nothing to brag about.
I wish it had rims not plastic hub caps
Overall I really enjoy my new SUV but for the price I paid I should have gotten rims and not plastic hub caps. It makes the SUV look cheap. I have to pay the extra expense to put new rims and tires on it. Also one big flaw it has I had my vehicle for two days and my little sister who is 9 years old got into the back and shut the door and got her seat belt on. I heard some air and had my sister who is 33 who was sitting up front in the passenger seat check her door and then she looked in the side mirrow and noticed it was my sisters door, then I had realized that my new vehicle did not have the system for the doors, only the back hatch light up when a door is ajar. They need to fix that.
Wish it would blow up
I read all these reviews and I cant even sit here and say wow that doesnt happen to mine. From the struts going when i first had it, how uncomfortable it is, cheap interior, can't stand the window controls, noisy ride, terrible on gas I dont even get 200 miles a full tank. Im constantly at the dealership. Overall I just hate this car. It was my first ride i loved the look of it but after driving it for a while I'm 19 with back problems already. The only thing good about this car is it handles great in the snow. All they need to do is fix up all of its problems which it would end up being a totally new car and it would be a nice ride.
Counting the days till I return!
This was the first GM car I have ever bought and it will be the last. I had to replace the struts and strut mounts as well as the front axle at 14,000 miles. The front brakes and rotors at 35,000 and the rear brakes have been deglazed 3 times the first was at 10,000 miles. The car is so loud, you hear ever bump in the road. The car handles horribly and does not feel safe. The only thing I am happy about is that I did not purchase the vehicle instead I used the smart buy program and I will be returning it early in December. The worst part is GM knows the issues with the safety of the car an ignores them.
Absolutely Great Vehicle for 4 years now
I am still amazed when I see any negative comments about this car. It has been an outstanding vehicle for me. I wonder how the Lexus owners that spent double feel when people were staring at the great looks of my car!!! 4 years now and no problems. (A gas cap and some tires) It is as fun to drive as the Mercedes 300E I once owned. The back seat leg room is my favorite feature. My 6ft tall kids love it. Very roomy, great ride and handling and has been reliable. I don't think I could have bought better.
Equinox - could be better
I like the vehicle overall, it is fun to drive, looks good and the quality of construction is very good. The vehicle is a good size and has plenty of power. It rides well for an SUV and the AWD works excellent in snow. Head and leg room are good and the engine and transmission provide a nice smooth acceleration and power band.
Great SUV without the Price
Great things about this "small SUV" include great response in steering, quick and agile like a car (comparible to the Impala which I have also owned), and great styling, especially from looking head on.
Amazing
You should buy one, awesome
I love my Black Eauniox
I was totally against buying a new SUV, but my Dad told me to check out the car on the internet and then make a decison. Well I was really liked the style of the car, it actually look likes the Acura SUV I wanted but could not afford. Well we went over to the dealership I test drove the car and I like this car so much that 4 of my neighbors on my block bought one two
Fun to Drive ! Great to look at!
Great car. Easy to handle, nice looking exterior cool features. Only thing I dont like is the plastic on the rear and front bumpers, easy to scratch, must be careful parallel parking, leave a lot of room between cars. Otherwise a great choice. Much better looking and easier to handle than other SUV's in its class.
Very good overall but lacks performance
I love my Equinox, it's very good looking and comfortable as well as spacious but I think we can do with a little more horsepower and torque. It looks fast and sporty but looks its all it has in performance. Overall, I'm very happy with my SUV.
Backfiring Problem
We purchased our Equinox in April '05. I fell in love with the look of this SUV. Reminded me of the Lexus SUV. We traded in our Dodge Ram for it. About 6 weeks after purchase, it started to make a loud backfiring, or popping noise as I would slow down or come to a stop. Also does it when I first start it. Taken it back to the dealership several times. They don't know what is wrong with it. Really emabarrasing when someone at the gas station is complimenting the look of my car & I start it up & it backfires. Very close to trading it in for another Dodge. Engine wants to stall sometimes too when I go to start it. I was very dissapointed in such a pretty car.
Great look sucky engine
I bought my nox almost 8 months ago. How its not running at all. I bout it with 50k miles, I have never beat my car nor let the antifreeze go low, some how a headgasket is broke. That after it wouldn't start. We replaced the battery and the starter. The starter was smoking so we thought it would be that, nope. So the headgasket is supposedly broke. I hope we get that fixed and its perfect. Also the seats do stain really easy. I bought seat covers the first week I owned it
Fun for Trip
We first saw the car at the LA Auto Show. Both my husband and I loved it! We both automatically agreed on the Lazer Blue Metallic as this is a very unusual color. We drove it over Easter weekend up to Northern California and were very impressed with its long distance fuel economy and its very smooth ride. We get a lot of stares because of the color, but we don't mind. We enjoy the car and our son thinks this SUV "Rocks".
Fun to drive
I test drove this today as it is finally showing up in dealships. It is fun to drive and I like it a lot.
My Equinox
Overall I guess you can say that it is one of the best looking and better handling SUV's on the market. It has such a unique design. It reminds you a lot of a lexus but for half of the price. It is so stylish, and it handles just as good as a car or better.
Equinox not what it seems
At first we thought we had a winner, but after driving it for a while we found it not what it was cracked up to be. My son plays hockey. He's a goalie and there is not room for his equipment. The seats on trips, long and short, feel like benches at a hockey game. The controls are confusing. When we recieved the car, parts of the car in the interior were loose. There were stains all in the car, probably the dealers's fault. We wish we had purchased another vehicle!!
Wow!!
I love it! I was knocked out when I saw it. Looks better than a Lexus and performs great but at less than 1/2 the price.
Two thumbs waaay UP!!!
This compact SUV is simply amazing. It rides more like a car than a SUV, and the fuel economy is actually quite good- much more akin to a sedan. The interior is well planned, and the rear seats and storage area are the best I've seen from any make (Honda, Toyota, Ford were cross-shopped). This is a great vehicle for families , or for those that love hauling friends around (like me).
My Last Chevrolet
We were impressed by the looks of the Equinox. We have had no mechanical issues. We have had many other issues, which made me vow that this is my last Chevy. When traveling on the interstate the road noise is awful. The AC noise is really loud also. We had to have two of the rear seatbelt latches replaced because they didn't latch. A strut on the hatch went out. The interior is very cheap. Water stains the seats. When you follow the instructions in the owners manual on how to clean the interior, it just looks worse. Had to buy seat covers to hide the stains.
Gas sucker
Bought the chevy Equinox LS 2005 3 weeks ago. With 23000 miles on it. We test drove it and pilled back in the dealership and it was smoking from the front grill. So they said we put it trough service. They called back and said something between emission and oilfilter is wrong. They replaced the part ( took them 3 Days to do it.)They had to order the part.It uses a lot of gas. I'm driving between 60- 70 miles a week and have to fill this sucker up every week. Getting ready to bring that car back and go buy one somewhere else. BAD GAS MILEAGE.....:-((
My new Car
Like the power and response. Radio is difficult, but not important. Cup holder in front cannot be used with emergency brake up, doesn't fit. Also, windshield is lower than the moulding around it, so when you are trying to clean the windshield with the wipers, it can only push(snow) so far and then it piles up so you cannot see, especially on the driver's side. Seats are manual, which doesn't really matter except you can only go front and back, whereas a short person like myself needs it to go up.
MY FAV SO FAR
THIS SUV GET'S A 10! I LOVE THE SOUND SYSTEM,LEG ROOM,CARGO SPACE, AND STYLING....I GET SO MANY COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE ON HOW NICE LOOKING THIS VEHICLE IS. I THINK IT VERY MUCH COMPARES TO THE MORE EXPENSIVE LEXUS RX330 :-)CHECK OUT THE BACK VIEW.....YOU'LL SEE.I ADORE THIS SUV!
just got one for the wife
buy one have some fun.
We're Lovin' It
We've only had it for 4 weeks, but it has been great. The price can't be beat in any comparable SUV. We looked as about 15 different cars and SUVs and this one was the one that caught our eye. Not just its looks, but how enjoyable it is to drive. Its power throws you back in your seat, the leather is soft, yet feels strong. My daughters enjoy the stereo. The steering is tight or loose when needed and I had to watch the tach to make sure the transmission used all 5 gears. With the driver's seat all the way back, I have plenty of leg room in the back and I am 6'4". However if you stomp on the gas, hang onto the wheel or the steering may get away from you.
Good Car. Bad MPG Killing my pocket!
I love my car, the car drives great, I bought it in 05 and I absolutely love it, however the gas is killing me. I have to spend about $50 on Friday to fill it up, then by Monday have about 1/4 tank left leaving me to fill it up on Tuesday again, so basically I am spending a good $200-250 a month on gas alone. Gas mileage needs big improvement, and noise reduction as well. Also a navigation system option should be available. Other than that the car runs and looks great. I am looking to change cars if I find one that gives me better MPG, I think I will be trading it in for a better one, we'll see.
LOVE IT
Absolutely love my new Equinox - as to the comparison to the Saturn VUE, I owned a Saturn and would never own another. I had a horrible experience with the car and the customer service was equally as bad.
PLEASE consider your options first
I have had this car for 5 years now, & I have many issues with it. First, the pump that dispenses the washer fluid went out, 3 years ago! Now, my drivers door will not lock unless I manually lock it myself, but will not unlock unless I physically crawl through my car, and unlock it from the inside (key doesn't work in the door). My car can be on without the key in the ignition, my running lights wont stay on, and my automatic lights don't turn on either, which has resulted in a dead battery numerous times! I have had many problems with this car, and not enough $ to fix them! The problems just keep stacking up! Oh and my CD player eats my CD's if I've been in the car for more than 20 minutes!
I love my car!
I have looked and admired this vehcile since it first came out!And I finally got the deal that I wanted and the car that I wanted with the features I desired! This is the only car that my husband and myself both agreed on. We went to the dealership and drove off that day! Plenty of room for 2 growing boys in the back. Looking in from the outside doesn't do it justice! My in- laws even said that from the outside it didn't look like it had much room but when they opened it up and rode they themselves were really impressed! I can't say enough about this SUV other than I waited a long time to fall in love with a car and I found it in the Equinox!
It's so much fun!
This vehicle is so much fun! It is roomy like an SUV, but drives like a car! It gets great gas mileage, and is so sporty!
What a Blast!
Got my Equinox a couple of weeks ago. Test drove 7 other SUV's and the dealership had only 1 of these in stock, fully loaded with leather seats, satellite radio onstar, ect. Had to have it!!!! Looks similar to a lexus, and the drive is smooth, more like a car then SUV. Really clean understated interior. Two Thumbs up!!!
Purchase one!
A pleasure to drive. Styling is great. I have been very, very pleased with this SUV. PURCHASE ONE!!
I would recommend
Good syle, great ride. I have the best package (1SE), but the interior still seems a little cheap for 27,000 dollars. I guess now days if you want nice, it will cost you 40,000+.
Great SUV with few minor issues
I bought this car back at the end of 2006 and it has proven to be a great SUV. For an SUV, it gets good gas mileage. I drive over 100 miles a day (highway and city) and get about 23 miles per gallon. I have had no major issues other than the normal brake pad changes, new tires and oil changes which you can expect on a vehicle that went from 24K miles to 74K miles in 2 years! I would recommend this car to everyone, good for the price.
Disappointing!
I fell in love with the sleek style, beautiful on the outside..but that's as far as it goes! After having this vehicle for 2 weeks I began experiencing problems my car wouldn't start! It would turn over but wouldn't start completely then stall out. I took it to the dealership and they "couldn't figure it out" 6 visits/7 months later they still don't know what's wrong? The worst part about it-the fact that in my most recent visit the was one towed there another sitting there waiting to get fixed with that same problem as mine! Besides the starting issue, my car will not reverse,breaks/roters grind(didn't need to be replaced), car dings even when keys aren't in the ignition!
So far so good
It's easy to change the oil, which was impossible on my wife's GEO Prism. I have taken it on several 2000 mile fishing trips to Canada, Minnesota - it's easy to load, easy to drive, visibility and clearance like a pick up truck but has better speed. Disappointing gas mileage. For some reason, I've had to replace several headlamps. Currently one is clearly full of condensation and will probably fail soon. I'd get another, if newer models can get better gas mileage.
Chevy
The Chevy Equinox is a stylish and comfortable ride with an affordable price tag. By far one of the best on the market.
I love this vehicle!
Very nice to drive. Gas mileage is a little dissapointing, but could be a lot worse. Lots of cargo room, with a shelf in trunk that is rubber on one side (for tailgating parties, grocery, etc) and shelf can be propped up to hang groceries and create more cargo space.
