Couldn't Be Happier
I really love this car. I am a 55 year-old sports car nut (on a tight budget) and my Cobalt is amazing for what it cost. Always fun to drive, it makes every freeway on/off ramp a blast. I manage to get a smile on my face every time I drive it, even after owning it for 2 years. The stock power levels are great but adding the GM Stage 2 kit really transforms the car into something special. The car is amazing quiet, especially at freeway speeds. Overall it is a well sorted out, balanced car, thank you GM for making this thing! Final thought; I have not had one single problem with this car. Not one squeak or rattle, nothing broken, never back to the dealer. I couldn't be happier.
You better have that warranty
steering gear went out, windows vision warped, rotors warped, car interior RATTLES, glove box rattles, exhaust heat shield makes vibrating sounds, steering clunks over dips. Look people this is common for cobalts. I'll be honest, don't buy this car. Great power, and handling but things will break. It's not a maybe. This car isn't a lemon either... this is very common issues. Without the warranty your looking at a big issue. This is a cheaply made car. GM is failing and I don't care because this is what they sell. Go buy a Nissan, don't waste your money for god sake don't make the mistake I did.
Love the car even thou I had many prob's
I was like others & waited patiently for the dealership to get one of these cars in. This was the car I wanted to own!! I loved everything about this car until it hit 13k miles, the engine light continued to come on & off until I traded it a couple of weeks ago with 97k miles. It was a sad day because I had finally got all the kinks out of the car, but I was worried about the supercharger going next. No telling how much that was going to set me back. I thought just because this was a 4 cylinder car that it would be cheap to maintain, but I was wrong. Premium gas only & oil changes are anywhere from $75 - $85 a pop, synthetic oil only. The boost gauge also went out around 20k miles.
this car is amazing!
i love it! i recommend everyone to buy!..its easy to drive and looks great on the outside!
Poor man's Vette
It is a fun and affordable car to own and drive, handles, performs, stops very well. It is comfortable to ride in and drive with 3 way adjustable drivers seat leather interior 7 speaker system. The handling, performance, style and cost of this car make this a poor man's Vette.
Proud owner of 2005 Rally Yellow SS/SC Cobalt
I dont know what the hell you people are talking about, i guess u dont know how to take care of a car. MY COBALT was bought in july 2005, only issue i ever had with it was my 2 gear, gearbox, BECAUSE i was petal to the metal, of course it was under warranty at the time and was fix beautiful. another thing, nothing big was the molding around the sunroof button, came off when racing a crxgsr turbo LOL, was fix and never came off. Thats About it RIGHT NOW i got 140k miles on it and it runs PerfecT! I sugguest u people learn how to warm up ur car and maintain it well. sounds to me u are a bunch of retards. BTW this is GM expect Speed not Need lmao. GREAT car its Paid Off And WIll be kept!!
Worst car Ive ever owned hands down!
First off let me say that I have owned alot of cars like these, low end to mid range performance cars. Second off almost all these cars were forced induction cars. I bought this car with 60k miles on it, it currently has 91k on it. I have had it two years and Ive had to replace the transmission, clutch 2x, alternator, battery, plugs 3x, front ball joints. The car is always down during the time ive owned it, it has not run more than 90 days at any given time. The engine and trans are all saab and terribly designed and horrible to work on. the entire car was hastily manufactured with mediocre materials. the fit and finish of the entire are is horrible. 93 oct gas and full syn oil, why?terrible
Not without a warranty
This car I ordered and waited 6 months for it, it didn't disappoint. The power the feel best bang for your buck. However it is built kind of like a home made rocket ship, amazing performance, questionable quality. Build quality should go negative for this car
SS
Great car. Fun to drive. Comfy and accomodating interior. The exterior is sporty, yet livable. Ergonomics are great, nothing is out of reach. The shifter fits perfectly in your hand and requires only short throws. Effortless clutch activation and great brakes! No need to rev to the red line for power, the supercharger has almost no lag and kicks in low in the rpm range for great torque at low rpm's. Shifter sometimes feels a bit spongy and hesitant, but overall, a great car, worthy of its SS insignia. Only 91 or above octane fuel on this car, anything less is a waste. 93 octane fuels work a miracle on this little four-banger. Not faster than the SRT-4 but certainly much more civilized and refined.
Excellent choice for the money
This car performs with cars 2 or 3 times the cost. It is fun to drive and gets excellent gas mileage. I am averaging around 27 mpg (city and highway combined). A real affordable sporty car.
Drive at your own risk
This is actually my 20 year old daughter's car, and she loves it. But, it does take premium gas, and she drives it like a race car. She has the tickets and high insurance to prove it. So use it with caution. Rally yellow does tend to draw attention of all kinds.
MUSCLE CAR ?
I'M A 50 YR.OLD GUY THAT WAS PART OF THE "MUSCLE CAR " ERA AND HAVE OWNED SS396 CAMAROS AND A 71 SS454/450 CHEVELLE AND ALTHOUGH THIS ISN'T IN THAT CATEGORY IT IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS I'VE COME. IT IS FAST ! ! ! FUN TO DRIVE AND DOESN'T LOOK BAD EITHER. THE FIT AND FINISH IS SUPERB ! BRAVO CHEVY !
This car is awesome!!
This car has it all! I'm getting over 24 mpg, it accelerates like a sports car, goes around corners like it's on rails, is loaded with equipment, and looks great to boot! The best all around car I have ever owned (and I've owned over 30)by far. Plus I got it for less than $18,000 after incentives and GM card rebates. Proof that there is hope for GM after all, if they can only build more cars with this level of performance and value in one package.
Chevy Tech./Owner point of view
Very suprised by the cars capabilaties from the first test drive. Power is consistant (no dead spots/lag), but really loves rpms in the 4k+ range. Handling, this car will corner with confidence, there is very little understeer,if any. Response is crisp and accurate to quick manuavers. The G85/performance package is a must for the spirited driver. The LSD pulles the car through corners under accelleration. The Racero seats are snug fitting and keep you in position in turns,so larger people have complained of discomfort.I have driven all the styles of Cobalts and can say there is no comparison to the SS/SC w/G85. For reliability, I've seen very few problems at my shop. Nothing unusual.
Go and get this car! Now!
I was a Cavalier Z24 owner before this car and this is, in my opinion, the best car that I have ever owned. Its fast, fun to drive, and it has a SuperCharger! I don't see any others on the road so that is a plus as well. I normally drive a lot and when I had the Cavalier, I was very fatigued when I got to my destination. Not in this car, I still am amped up when I get there and I just want to get back out and drive it. Only put in 91+ octane in the tank, anything less and you don't get the performance.
Good concept, poor execution
Poor build quailty! I've had nothing but problems with this car. I bought this over the SRT-4 and regret it. Its been in the shop once a month since I got it.
Love my SS
This car is a great all around buy! Gets good mileage, excellent performance for the money. Have only had minor wire harness problem, burnt thru the fuel injector wire, warnt covered. interior is nice, no rattles. I drive 88 miles round trip to work daily, and it's a curvy hilly drive, and I love it. Makes going to work a pleasure. Downside, cramped back seats for anybody other than a child. Rough ride on a rough street. Could use a 6 speed gearbox. Definitely recommend this car
Better than some say
I bought a 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS supercharged and so far I think it is a good car. I have fun driving it. There is a lot of power up dates that you can buy for them, and it gets better gas mileage than my last car. More power than Cooper
Cobalt supercharged
I loved this car when I first got it 5 yrs. Ago. Now I hate it the sunroof is messing up. I have had to replace 2nd gear already and that was at 50,000 miles. Now the transmission is going out and that is at 52,284 miles. Also my abs light is coming on and a mechanic informed me that it was my body control module, and there are 17 bcm's on the car. The speakers have static. The glove box makes a noise. Also something in the door rattles. Plus to top it off it has a Saab transmission so you can no longer get parts without a huge hassle. It took me 3 weeks to get parts and that was before gm did away with Saab. Do not buy this car!
What else can go wrong?
I have had the most trouble with this car, i bought it with 2k miles. Then everything started going wrong. The windows motors stopped at 3k. The steering column had locked up and needed to be replaced, at 12k. At 24k miles, a horrible knocking sound started up, the dealership, said the 2 front struts were faulty, the manifold had a leak in it and needed to be replaced, and the wheel bearings in the front dif were faulty, and of course the supercharger was faulty and was replaced. Cant forget the boost gauge meter went out and needed to be replaced at 8k miles. And now the big pool of water that comes from the leaking ac unit, this is my new fun thing to get fixed, but now its out of warranty
Giving the SRT-4 a run for it's money!
It's fast, fun, and corners great! It looks good as well. It's about time Chevrolet put out something that's affordable and fast.
A-
Have only owned the car for a little while. You get a lot of car for the price. Good gas mileage. Perfect for a young person wanting a sporty car at a cheap price. Ride quality is much better than I expected out of a small car. I have always had good service out of GM's four cylinder engines. Much better than the v-6's.
It's Worth it!
I had a WRX before the SS. Although the WRX runs better test numbers, everyday driving wasn't as fun as the SS, because there wasn't much going on below 4000 RPM. I don't know about everyone else, but American engines always hold a place in my heart because of low end torque. L.E.T. is what I find fun when I'm driving around. I drove an S2000 a while back and although it was a "refined" car (whatever that means), I didn't feel that great about it because just driving around, it was like driving an old Civic. Why? Because you have to rev that engine up to the sky to have fun. High RPM is cool for the track, but I'll take torque from a car like the Cobalt SS when I'm going to the store.
Dont listen to those who dont own one
Well let's see, this car is fast! Also it is a great deal as far as bang for the buck. Gas mileage is also a plus if drive like me you will get around 25 mpg but you can get up to 30 mpg. If you're looking for a fast car you need this car. "Sleeper" is a great term to describe this car because there you don't see many and no one really knows what they are capable of doing since they are a new model... so go test drive one and be impressed
Sporty, But Not SS Material.
It was a fun ride, but still not SS material, I have never thought of a SS tag on a four-cylinder car, and after driving this, I don't think the SS tag belongs on it, maybe if it was a 6 cylinder but no little 4 banger, if I were chevrolet, I'd never produce the SS version for this car, and maybe give up the SS tag because nothing they put the tag on lives up to its name. Maybe they should think about putting it on the corvette
Chevy Cobalt
This is one of the cars to drive this year. It has great handling and its supercharger really kick in.
Fun To Drive
Still new but lots of fun to drive! Quiet interior sound.
One year mark
I bought the car a little over a year ago, and have enjoyed every second of it. It gets up and goes without breaking a sweat, and the full leather interior is very comfortable. I havn't had one problem, except my sunroof is a bit noisy when it opens and closes. The car is fairly easy to modify, and with the aftermarket starting to pick up for them, there should be more and more running in the 13's.
Better luck next time
I had a 2005 ss/sc and it was a fun car to drive but after having to get the shift knob fixed 5 times and the seats starting to crack from the cheap leather, I went back to Honda a now own a 2007 si sedan and am not looking back. The fit and finish are so much better and it looks like a better built car.
Must Have Car
The car is great, handling is awsome. Stock tires don't last long but they seem to grip the road very well. Very responsive throttle and the supercharger is the best ever. I would recommend the car to anyone who ask me what I think of it.
Did not live up to GM standards
This car is absolutely the funnest car I've driven yet. The major downfall to this vehicle is the amount of times you will be bringing it to the dealer to have it worked on. I have had everything replaced from front struts/control arms all the way to minor trim detail falling off. I've had my manifold sensors replaced because it was causing my car to RPM at 400. That's not even at idle RPM. When you are getting ready to leave for work and your car display reads "ENG PWR LOW," you get kinda ticked off. My car had to be turned off and on seven times before it would idle at 1100 RPM... enough to get it out of my driveway. I would never recommend anyone buying this model car. Maybe the '08 model.
