Not worth the $$$
I bought this Blazer with about 20K miles on it. Within 4 months, things started failing. The washer pump is out and has a leak. The transmission is slipping and the motor is very weak with a lot of dead spots in the acceleration. This will be the last Chevy for me. The quality has dropped dramatically in the last few years.
ZR2, all the options
I've had the Blazer for 3 months now, and it's everything I expected and more. It's fun to drive, and the highway mileage is above 20mpg. I love being able to have the rear seats down for easy storage. Of course there's wear and tear, and parts to buy, but it's an SUV. It's kind of expected.

Always have good luck with the Blazer
We have leased 2 Blazers...and we have been happy with them both. Comfortable and easy to drive. Rear doors swing open wide enough to get kids in and out of car seats. Plenty of space in the back for family trips with lots of luggage and the dogs.
Good Truck
This Blazer has been solid as they come. What many fail to realize is that this is a truck, not a sports car, not a luxury car and it's not a 454 Silverado. This is a 6 cylinder small SUV. The interior is tough and designed to be rugged. The ride is pretty good. I've done a lot of off road driving and this little Blazer works well in those conditions. It also performs well during snow conditions on the highways. The gas mileage is a little less than what I'd like but I accepted that fact the day I bought it.
5 1/2 yrs with a Chevy Blazer
This car has performed well and has been a solid purchase since late 1999. I recommend it for family car with 4 or less people.
Black Beauty
I bought this Blazer mainly because my wife broke her wrist and couldn't shift her Grand Am..(She likes to shift) We both drove the car since we've had it. She likes it, with the exception of the many blind spots this vehicle has. I enjoyed driving it and loved the Acceleration the 4.3 6 cylinder has compared to my 2.2 S-10. The car is a 2 dr with a black exterior. It reminds me of a Lexus wagon...has those same kinda lines. I have had many people say: That sure is a sharp Blazer." Mileage isn't anywhere near the Grand Am 4 cyl or the S-10 4 cyl. This Black Beauty get at most 17 around out suburban area and maybe 23 on the highway. It's a nice SUV.
dont buy a gm
had this 2000 balzer 1 year. replaced oil cooling lines, rear brakes and rotors. noise from front end at 36000 turns out to be ball-joints. dealer noticed oil cooling line leak, again. GM says "sorry, its wear and tear" Northstar chevy will only charge me 384 to fix the oil line, while the guy next to me is getting his covered. same with the ball-joints. s-10's i have found have oil line and ball- joint problems that chevy just doesnt care about. do your self a favor and get a ford. oh yeah, dont think the extended warranty will help you. gm told me they couldnt verify any maintanence on my vehicle. thats because the dealer charges way to much.
...at least it's a real pretty red...
I bought my Blazer when my '91 Beretta died last March. Three weeks after I bought it driving on I-80 from Sacramento to Tahoe it starts smoking. We pull over, open the hood, & tranny fluid had leaked, overheated and ignited in the manifold. We have it fixed. Should've returned it (dumb!). Two weeks ago the tranny starts slipping, and the truck shakes when brakes are applied. Back in the shop. Tranny & brakes are done. It has 27k miles. Should've just fixed my Beretta & kept it, at least it was paid for. Gave me a lot let headaches in the 8 years I had it than this stupid thing. Or I should've bought a new 4 Runner.
My Blazer
I bought this car expecting to get the best and that is exactly what i have gotten. The only thing I have replaced is the altenator which happens in most vehicles in their lifetime. My Blazer is gettting high in mileage but I wouldn't dream of trading it in. This is one very happy customer!!
2000 Blazer 4WD LT
The Blazer has been much like a car in its ability to fit into spaces and acts like a truck. It has 51,000 miles and never to the shop except for warranty work or recall. Mileage is 20MPG, original tires and brakes with very much life yet. 1st American car for a decade and plesantly suprised of its performance.
Would be good. Just TOO MANY problems...
Funny reading some of these reviews. All the same problems. 3 years, 12 times repairs. Took them awhile to fix the 4X4, the power sunroof, the rear electri noise tailgate, hub cap fell off, seat adjuster broke, would not go into 4X4, then stuck in 4X4. It was deffinatly a lemon. Mechanically, (other than the 4X4) it is an OK good truck. Always started on the first shot... never any engine problems. The rear wheel makes it impossible to see out the back window, and the 4X4 transfer case sits on the floor on the passenger side making it short of foot space. Too bad too cause I really did the look of the truck!
No problems
In 70k miles I've made one $120 repair. And I've driven repeatedly over several mountains over 11,000 feet elevation in New Mexico where the terrain is anything but friendly. What more could I ask for a vehicle that is as affordable as this one. Especially for someone who actually uses an SUV as an SUV and not just a gas hog.
I've driven three over six years.
Felt nice and tight when new but with age the ride and "feel" is somewhat mushy. Squeaks from dash are really noticeable since she's broken in. Very decent sounding stero. I've driven three ('95, '97 and '00) and have noticed successive improvements with each. I've never had a problem (except for cheap brake pads early years)and my Blazers have NEVER let me down.
I love this car
Great Style Great reliaibility
A mixed bag but overall I've liked it
I have the ZR2 off-road package, and overall this has been a dependable vehicle. Reasonably comfortable, low wind noise, rides well (for a 4x4), suspension package was a great investment - have gotten 70k miles w/o uneven wear on tires, fun little SUV for cross-country camping trips. 21 mpg highway, 15 city. It hasn't been without its issues. It does tend to have a lot of squeaks, cheap-o interior plastic doesn't help. The biggest problem I had was having to replace the transmission at 50,000 miles. Did have some premature ball joint replacement also. Heater core went out at about 110k miles, radiator cracked at 140k. Other minor problems such as malfunctioning thermometer and broken fuel ga
6 Months - Perfect So Far
I have had my blazer for 6 months now, and I have no problems. It has been perfect. Love this car. If I was in a car accident tomorrow and had to buy another car, I would buy another 2000 Blazer.
Engine
Slow on take off. Also the engine and tires are noisy. Looking forward to trading it in.
OkForPrice
Moving to a Japan Car/SUV_next. Buy American you get the power, price and problems. Blazer brake lights went out twice before 30,000, power mirrors windows and locks went out before 40000, alt. out at 52,000, fuel pump 77,000. Also chevy truck and 2 Ford trucks numerous trips to dealer for transmission leaks.
Can't wait to be rid of it
This vehicle has been nothing but problems and repairs. Has 80,000 miles and my mechanic tells me this thing is having problems that shouldn't be happening until well over 100,000 miles. Replaced altenator twice, replaced fuel pump, gauges don't work, every little thing in the passenger compartment rattles when you are going down the road. Started changing oil at 2,000 mile intervals, because of the incredible amount of sludge I had draining from the oil filter when I would change the oil. Just an overall piece of junk.
Lora's
A very nice vehicle for 4 people. Handles well, but ride a little rough. Transmission went out approx. 68,000m. Then driver power window motor stopped working. 114,000 heater has stopped working. I enjoy this vehicle. I got a lot better gas mileage with a K & N air filter.
My Red Chevy Blazer 2000 4D LS 4WD
No problems. Very relable. Gets a little squeaky and louder by 35000 mi but sturdy as a rock.
2000 Blazer
This Blazer is very economical, it uses gas only when the air is running or is in 4 wheel drive. It rides fairly well. The only problem I have had is with the front in alinement. Has been very reliable.
Good so far
Have had good luck with this vehicle. Gas mileage has been less than expected. I average about 15 MPG town or highway. Hood cable and passenger reclining handle broke but from reading the reviews I am not the only one with these problems. A little rough on the off road travel but it gets the job done. I think that it is a great vehicle for the price.
Reliable but always dumb problems
I bought the Blazer when it was 4 years old and had 64000 miles. It ran good, but within one month, I brought it in for a new exhaust system, o2 sensor, fuel injection system, and transmission issues. Since then, I have brought it to the dealership on three different occassions which needed to have other mechanical parts replaced. No major issues but many minor problematic parts have had to be replaced. Buy an extended warranty if you get one because these will use it up. Otherwise, the SUV rides decent and has always been dependable as it always starts and has never leaked fluid.
great truck
i love my 2000 blazer, although it does suck down the gas.It rides very good and i love the push button 4x4.It is a very comfortable vehicle.
Not sure if it will last!
Bought mine as a GM certified used vehicle with 34400 on it. And like many others in the reviews, mine has been in the shop alot and I do take care of mine with routine maintenance! Shocks had to be replaced at 35000K, & seals at 36000K, pinion bearing, steering column problems, wheel bearing, rattles at the door trims, etc. The whole vehicle shudders at 60 - 65 MPH, and forget driving really fast like 75-80 MPH, it really shakes then! I bought this vehicle with the intent of keeping it for a long time, however, even with proper maintenance, I find myself wondering if it will last past 60000K!
Not soooo good
Many problems such as insulation in doors not installed properly, wheel barings bad, fuel injection problems, drivers window not working, and countless other things. Very dissappointed in the Blazer. Plus a recall on the rear turn signal.
Love my Blazer
This is my second SUV and I love this one. I owned a 96 Explorer before my Blazer. I wish my Blazer was the same size as the Explorer. I also wish my Blazer had rear air like the Explorer did. I love the 4.3L V6! Tons of power and revs almost to redline. I've never wished for more power. The dash color is not very pretty and I don't like the hump in the passenger foot well for the transfer case. Not alot of rear legroom behind me, I'm 6ft tall. Love everything else about the inside of my Blazer. Adore the heated seats and the seat memory feature. Only problem I had was the heater core went out, it was replaced under warranty. Gas mileage is fine, I didn't buy it for the mileage. Great 4X4!
I am glad I own it!!
My blazer has almost 100,000 miles on it and it has been wonderful. Of course if you want a good car you cant just buy the first one you see you like. It took me a little while to find the perfect one and my kids love it also!!!
Disappointed
When we bought ours, it had 52000 miles on it. It was great for a little while, then the transmission went bad (reverse). At 76,000miles, the radiator needed to be backflushed. The front wheel bearings went at 80,000 miles. A rear axle noise started at 81,000. The axle seals were bad when we got it. The rear u-joint was replaced at 60,000. Also had some other minor problems. I would probably never buy another one. I love Chevy, but don't care for the Blazer at all. At least not this one!
2000 Blazer ZR2
Owned Blazer for a year, proved to be fun to drive and handled snow well, but overall not pleased. The V-6 seemed really thirsty even with my unspirited driving habits and wasn't much for power. I rated low for good reasons. The seat trim on drivers seat trim was ripped off the first time my pant leg caught it, pass seat recliner handle broke off, weak door bushings and seal, interior rattled constantly. Service Engine lamp was almost constatly illuminated after repeated trips to numerous dealers and numerous pricey repairs. 4wheel drive was slow to engauge and even slower to disengauge, when equipped with swinging spare tire mount there is no additional support causing dents if opened to hard
very fond of the blazer
We bought this car when we moved to Colorado and we have had an awful lot of fun with it. Really really tough and reliable in the snow. Always felt safe in bad conditions in city and country. Like a rock. No trouble with baby seats and so on, it was good when the kids were really little for all their stuff in the back. We did some very long trips in it and it never let us down. Since it got old the handling has gotten very squishy but the car is still solid enough. We will be sad to say goodbye.
An SUV for Men
The Chevy Blazer is an SUV designed like a truck. Plenty of power and a stiff ride. The interior has a sloppy build, but the exterior is flawless.
piece of junk
the interior rattles so bad i have to keep the volume up high, along with many many other problem that the dealer ship couldn't figure out. dealership said so sad to bad. I really got taken for in this buy. I should have paid alittle more for a nissan or a toyota and had fewer problems.
what a crap....
This car is nicely designed and provides you with a quite ride - compared to other SUVs in it's class. If it ever rides. I am driving this vehicle now since 12000 miles (bought it with 40k): extended break job, front bearring, front balljoint made noises, but was still tight, oil cooler line, idler and pitman arm, torsion bars are weak, transmission, RUSTY and BROKEN DOOR PINS and a TONN of undefined noises. Even my little french compact car I was driving in europe for 3 years (what was not good at all!!)was better in quality than this crapy car. Do yourself a favour (and your wallet) and just stay away from it. Dfenetly the last chevy in my life!
Only Americants for me
90,000 miles and still going strong. Blazer has some competion though, my 86 S-10 is still going at 175,000 miles. I wanted a full size truck but will be happy hauling the family, plowing through the snow and pulling the camper with this little powerhouse ... for now. Of course gas mileage isn't as good as my Cavalier. It's a truck. Even if I could get 50 mpg I sure I would want 51. Fuel pump went out, 1 rear speaker and passenger seat lever went out. All three under warranty. Nice to see GM has increased warranty to 5 years/100,000 miles. Must be pretty confidant.
No complaints for my ZR2
Whomever had this vehicle before me took good care of it. Looks brand new minus a couple of minor scratches. The interior is in perfect shape. True, it has a lot of plastic but it isn't as bad as some say. What do you expect? This isn't a luxury SUV. I have the Bose stereo with 6 cd changer and it sounds great. I have nearly every option available on it. I truly love driving it each day. All of my friends love the way it looks. My only issue so far is that the rear windows leak if you go through a high pressure car wash. No big deal, easily fixed. Other than that I have zero complaints.
I'm iffy on this one
When I first bought it - I was excited to have an SUV becasue of the space (I upgraded from a '92 Cavalier) But from the start I had problems getting it started (which turned out to be a fuel pump issue that we figured out 3 years later). I, like a lot of other people on here, had fuel gauge problems, even after the pump got fixed - and I replaced the wheel bearings and ball joints twice! Gas mileage stinks - even for an SUV - and it doesn't really handle that well. I was always replacing brakes and rotors -and the spare tire blocking all the rear visibilty was brutal. If you are not in 4WD, it's terrible in the snow - and even in 4WD it's marginal at best.
2000 blazer
It is in the shop for a lot of repairs. Bells and whistles means there is a lot to break. The tranny is gone at 113,000 and I have a porous engine block.
Blazer LS
The vehicle is very well insilated. Interior Elements: Great contrast in color, patterns, fabrics- better than the redesigned version for 2003. --too monotoned. Exterior:style wise, the rear wheels are pulled in to far in the wheel wells where as the front are almost flush with outside fender. looks weak in the rear. Shape: narrow body -- relax on the roundness. trucks are squared -- Cherokee Classics still haven't changed the exterior for decades and yet continue to sell. Basically take care of your vehicle, do the maintence and your fine. things breaking and parts replaced that don't work --- complain to the dealer rather than the parts.
I am very pleased with my ZR2
I really have nothing bad to say about the ZR2. It is everything I had expected it to be. It's an SUV so the gas mileage won't be the greatest, I, along with other reviewers have had gas gauge problems but as long as I count the mileage I know how much gas is in the tank. I have had to replace the ball joints on each side, and put new brakes 2 years ago. Other than that I haven't had a problem with the truck. It just turned over 100,000 miles, a couple years ago I saw a Ford F-250 stuck on a guys lawn trying to pull out his tractor that was on a Big Tex Trailer. I asked him if he needed any help and my Blazer pulled both the truck and the Big Tex(with tractor on it) right out of the mud.
Do Not by this Car
I purchased this car because of it's stylish apperance. However, in the two years that I have had it, I have replaced almost every major portion of it. It has been in the shop almost twenty five times in 18 mo. The suspension went out at 39,000 miles. I have had several electrical problems with every electrical component in it. The radio cuts out for no reason, the window motors have been replaced, the alternator, the battery, the speakers, the power locks fuses (12 times before the problem was found.) The car is beautiful and everything I need, but it's in the shop and the driveway more than I drive it.
GM should be ashamed
Bought car with 20k miles on it. Since then, I have put about 35k on it, and have had nothing but trouble. Things that broke: Alternator, A/C, recline handle, axle seals, transmission, power locks, windshield wiper switch. Probably missing some, but that's what I can remember. Vehicle drives well, has decent power, and is comforatable.
Big Mike's Caravan of Chevy Blazers
I have 4 Blazers..2000 to 2003..Overall above Average..Exam body before buying..Get Blazer rustproofed..Great for Snow in P.A

A nice vehicle that nobody wants to pay for!
Often car sales staff lowball you to the point where you may as well hand over the keys and title for free! I run into a dumb sales associate who would sell trades to the local salvage yard because they did not appraise out. It did not matter the condition nor new lifetime warranty parts. Prices for cars and parts went up because of shortages created by the "Cash for clunkers" program. The body style on my 4 X 4 is good enough with the triangle windows to keep!

5 speed Blazer
Fun to drive with 5 speed. Gas mileage hurts but don't drive far. Blind spots, seat handle broken. Nice looks and growl of the engine.
Don't buy one
This little truck has been a headache from day one. In four months I have replaced the front brakes and rotors, the fuel pump and the wheel bearings. Pretty well the only thing I like about it is the looks.
Don't buy a Blazer
I have had this vehicle for almost 3 years. I am very happy that my lease is almost up. It has been in the shop approximately 11 times (twice for the 4WD mechanism). I am not sure what the lemon laws in this state are, but if I had bought it, I would be finding out.
Indiana John's Review
I like the overall design but, stupid things have gone wrong. Three trips to dealer to replace back window lock. Door bushings failed. Front wheel bearings failed. Power steering pump failed. Oil lines failed. 4-wheel drive engage module and motor system replaced twice. All of this before 50k miles. I drive a flat smooth 4 lane road for 95% of the milage. These things should not be failing.
Maintenance not worth the price
Drives like a bad truck. Didn't hit 20,000 before repair costs started hitting. Now at 45,000 miles replaced axles, replaced wheel bearings, replaced CV boots, replaced blower motor, replaced intake manifold, replaced alternator and battery. Front differential fluid leak, oil leak. Driver's side door squeaks. Avoid this car, unless you're buying my used one.
