2025 Cadillac ESCALADE IQ

If the GMC Hummer EV hadn't already taken the title of "Most Unusual Vehicle to Turn Into an EV," the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ is here to wear the crown. That's right — GM's luxury arm has created an all-electric version of its über-big Escalade SUV. The Escalade IQ can drive an estimated 460 miles on a full charge, which is quite a bit more than most other electric SUVs. It also promises up to 750 horsepower with its special Velocity Max mode engaged. Essentially, the 2025 Escalade IQ blends the dominant presence of its gas-powered counterpart with modern EV technology.

Starting at around $130,000, the Escalade IQ doesn't come cheap. But it does come capable. Like its namesake, the Escalade IQ does everything big. It has three rows of seating and is just a few inches shorter than an Escalade ESV in body length. There's 23.7 cubic feet of storage behind the third row, which is just shy of the standard Escalade's 25.5 cubes. There's also a front trunk, or frunk, with an additional 12.2 cubic feet of capacity. The Escalade IQ's maximum towing capacity stands at 8,000 pounds. As we've seen in a previous towing test with EV trucks, however, towing significantly impacts range. Expect to see a maximum range of about half the Escalade's rating if you pull a heavy trailer.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is a viable alternative. The Benz has less range, although in our testing we found it capable of more than 400 miles on a full charge, handily outperforming its stated range. The rest of the three-row luxury EV SUV field is considerably more accessible, if not as indulgent as the Cadillac. The new Volvo EX90 offers style and sophistication in a smaller Swedish package, while the Rivian R1S comes with the promise of capable off-road adventure. And there's still the pioneer of the class, the Tesla Model X, although its dated design doesn't produce nearly as much emotional appeal as the big and bold Escalade IQ.
