Amazing Quality and Powertrain
Definitely not a sporty car. If you want that, get a 3-series. That's not to say you can't have fun it it, it has a lot of power and has a great engine. But it is first and foremost a luxury cruiser geared towards comfort. If that is what you are looking for, this is the best in the business.

What a car!
The new 530 IX drive is such a nice complete car. It is set up with all the latest technology including remote start and keyless entry. The car drives so smooth and has nice pick up to get you moving. The seats are comfortable and the detail inside the car gives me and my friends a wow factor. The wheels make the car. Lastly, the gas mileage is just right.

Update 48k miles
Fun to drive and good gas mileage but brake pads do not last. Recommend ultimate care to cover the cost. Replaced pads at 11400 (both), 25093 (both), & 38393 (front) miles. 3rd set of tires at 47k miles

Sweet ride
I took delivery just before Christmas as a gift to myself. It replaced my 2006 5 Series which I traded in. The cars handling and overall driving dynamics are amazing. The fit and finish, handling. workmanship and product design are superb. I have no regrets in buying this vehicle.

Brand new
Shortage of computer chips cause several options to be eliminated. These options were available when the car was ordered from BMW and the factory didn’t inform me or the dealership that options were removed. No adjustment to the sticker price either.

I made the move
I could not take the leap to all electric yet so my plug in hybrid was the perfect choice. As a Hybrid I get 60+ MPG as a plug in, I get around 21 miles all electric. It comes with a level 1 charger that plugs into a Normal homes socket and it’s easy enough to upgrade to a level 2. It drives like a million bucks, feels solid as it drives and the technology is everywhere but so well done not overwhelming. The Carbon Black color that turns a deep metallic midnight blue in the light is a head turner.
Bad AC System for the 5 Series
I bought a 2022 BMW 540 in December of 2021. Car has been back to the shop four times. Living in Florida it gets very hot down here and when you set your automatic climate control to 74 degrees and the cabin hits 74 degrees the vents down by your feet and the rear vents for the passengers throw out hot hot heat. BMW says that is the way the car is built. Anyone living in a climate where you need constant air conditioning like Florida do not buy this car. I love the car it's a beautiful car it rides beautifully but has very bad air conditioning

Something Different
This is my first BMW. Coming from the Cadillac Brand I decided to do something different. So far I am pleased with the operation and handling of the 5 series. Asked me again after 6 months and a few trips.

Best automobile I've driven
I have a 2021 M550i. Extraordinary car. The comfort factor in this car is the very best I've experienced. The variability of seat adjustments is incredible. I have had 13 herniated discs and never have I found a more variable adjustable seat, nor massage modes. The power (523hp) is insane for a car in this sector. Acceleration is phenomenal and curves are super smooth. I don't have the driving skills for an M5, or a Porsche, due to spine issues, but this car is perfect for me. I ordered every extra except the 'use the key fob to park the car'. Driving this car is a sublime experience - power, acceleration, solid stance cornering, comfort (the seat adjustability is endless), audio (the Bowers and Wilkens audio is the best I have heard in a car), and pure luxurious fun of driving is incredible. It's far better than the Audi S6 or MB AMG E53 that I also test drove. I love idrive version 7, although miss Google Skyview that I had in my 2018 Audi S5 that I traded. I had a '20 Audi S6 ordered, and canceled due to terrible sales communication. So glad the Audi deal fell apart - the M550i is a superior driving experience, and the rotary dial user interface in the Beem is far better than the multiple touchscreens in the Audi. MB user interface in the E series is terrible
Sun roof issues
Bought the car brand new last year. Have had to take it into the shop 2x for sun roof issues. I've owned several cars with a sunroof and this is the first time I've had issues. Very concerned of the quality now. Dealership could careless. I don't know if I'd buy another BMW after this.

A Worthy Plug-In Hybrid
Bought this car used with low mileage. Good news is you can get one of these like all BMWs at a good price. Bad news is that the warranty issue could be a problem later. However, these cars are rock solid in my opinion. This is my third BMW plug in. Is it the best? Depends what you like. I like the X3 the best now that I've had this car a little while. The 530e does everything very well. The gas mileage without charging is much better than advertised. I took an 800-mile road trip and averaged 37mpg without charging. That was cruising between 70 and 83 depending on where I was with AC on. It's just as good as the 330e.. . I see almost no difference. The X3 gets worse mileage but it's all wheel drive and boxier. The back seat is good but not great for a mid-size car. I wish BMW would finally give us a decent back seat for such a large car. Everything else works very well. I really like that you can use the touch screen or use the control knob to do everything. There's nothing worse than having this dirty/smudgy looking touch screen. Electric range is spot on at around 20 miles per charge. You can get more if you don't use the A/C and drive slower. It'll be quite a bit less in super cold or hot weather. All in all, these cars are a steal if buying used. The only gripe I have is with the front seats... in my opinion they are too snug and I'm fairly thin. There are multiple variations of the front seats so just be cognizant about that.

Fantastic car
I was looking for a car last August and new car dealer lots were bare, so I had to either pay a market rate adjustment to get one then or order and wait. I initially wanted to get a Mercedes, but there were none to be had and they didn’t have hybrids. I’m not ready to go all-in on electric, but I did want better gas mileage. That’s when I stumbled into the 530e. On the highway, I get 45mpg and hybrid around town I get in the 60-90 mpg range. If you go the hybrid route, to get anywhere near the miles they advertise, make sure you’ve got a place to charge it. I also got the Driving Assistance Pro package and it’s incredible. Adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist really make driving pleasurable. If you’re on a road trip, the driving assistant does most of the work for you and will even change lanes at the flick of your turn signal. Apple CarPlay integration is excellent and the car picks up my phone quickly upon starting the car. On the gas powered engine alone, the performance is nothing special, but the car is very peppy off the line in hybrid mode. The seats are incredibly comfortable and the Harman Kardon sound system is noticeably better than the Burmester system on my Mercedes. I’ve driven the car 2,000 miles and it’s been an absolute pleasure to drive. It Driving Assist Pro package is an absolute must if you’ll be doing long drives. Coming from Mercedes, I’m incredibly impressed by the 5 series.

M550i What a pleasant compromise of luxury & power
The best of both worlds, luxury and power. The M550i is much quicker than if feels. I personally did 0-60 in 3.5s 1ft rollout 3.3s, 1/4 mile 11.5s. It's just what the Doctor ordered. No drama. Gets great gas mileage for the power it makes.

M550 is the right next level 550 drivers
I have owned and been driving 5-Series V8's since 2006 (545i, 550i and now M550). Somewhere in between I had an E60 V10 for about 6 months, but it wasn't what I needed/wanted. I know people like to compare the M550 to the M5 and critize the heck out of it and its shortcomings. I like to push these cars hard, but honestly I like balance in my every day driver. I drove my 550i for 10 years and loved every moment with that car, just as I did with the four years with my 545. This M550 is a force multiplier and not to be doubted. I think it was a smart next step for 550 drivers who relish in comfort and next level performance. The M5 is right for some, but not others. We should stop comparing the two or wondering about how the M550 fits or does not fit in the line-up. Drive it for what it is for a few weeks and push it hard, but dont compare it to the M5. Thats an amazing vehicle in a different class and price point. I have driven the latest M5 and its incredible, just not a fit for what I need and want. The performance of the M550 is truly incredible on its own merits and a standout hands down in its class. Again just IMO.

Modern E39?
I've owned now two G30 540i's. A 2018 and now a 2023. I've also been the owner of a 2005 E60 530i Sport, and a 2013 535i. To me the G30 has come the closest to feeling like a modern day E39. Styling looks similar, the ride quality is firm yet supple without feeling harsh like it did sometimes on the E60 and the F10. Sure the steering doesn't have a lot of feedback but it is precise and you can still tell what's going on with the front tires without getting back all the negative feedback from the car tramlining, and having to correct the steering at highway speeds. Interior quality is excellent and the balance between handling and ride comfort is top notch.

Best BMW in my 47 years as an owner!
I have owned 31 BMW's over the last 47 years and impressed with the 2021 540i, which is classified as a mild hybrid sedan.

amazing car
I love the drive of this vehicle. the power is exceptional and the acceleration time is less than 5 seconds
Nice car but with a "gremlin"
Bought my 2022 530i a few months ago. Overall a nice car but for one issue. The back panel of the front passenger seat rattles against the metal seat frame . There is a service bulletin out and the dealership states they have done all they can but the rattle remains when the seat is empty. Very irritating. So if quality build in your "luxury" sedan is important, keep this potential flaw in mind.

One issue with my 2021 M550i....
Has anyone found that the shifter fails to respond.while the car is "determined to STAY IN PARK. I occasionally have to turn off the engine, and restart the car to keep it in drive. Very frustrating esp. when cars behind you are being blocked because you can't move...This event has occurred 3 times in the past 3 mos.

Great car. Terrible electronics.
Handles and drives well; rides comfortably. No front camera, no speed limit indicator in dash, no side view cameras, no top-down view. My 2020 330i had all of these. "Driver Profiles" don't work well. UPDATE: Lease ended 11/17/24. Most of the missing items were due to parts supply issues in 2021 due to Covid-19. I leased a 2025 model, and it's great!

Excellent German Automobile
I like this car a lot. It is solidly constructed and very tight. The engine is powerful and fun. While the car handles well, the steering is a bit numb on feedback from the road. The infotainment system is the best I've seen in a car. I'm a previous Mercedes owner and theirs is awful compared to BMW's. The seats are incredibly comfortable. The ride is taut yet smooth. The interior is quieter than my old E class. The interior of this car is sparse compared to the E class. If you want more glitz, you won't find it here which suits me just fine. I like things simple and strong and this car delivers. The car has the ride that the E class should have but doesn't. It's also still sporty enough to make you smile when you step on the gas.

Fabulous sport sedan
This is actually my third BMW 5 series. This 2023 model is ideal size, ultra-smooth and powerful and handles almost like a sports car. Impossible to believe this is a turbo 4 and not an V8. Inside and out it is luxurious and of the highest quality, meticulously mad. If you’re interested in a mid-sized sport sedan the BMW 5 series is tops in It’s class.

Marriage of luxury refinement and speed
This isn't a sports car, it's sport sedan. It's large and comfortable enough for long trips, perfectly sized daily commuting, impeccably appointed with interior finishes and technology, and blessed with an engine/transmission combo that gives you smooth and powerful acceleration. I'd opt for the M sport and shadow line packages for the next exterior look, and the executive package provides some really nice interior and convenience extras.

Nothing like a BMW V-8
The acceleration. control and ‘feel of the road’ od a BMW is unmatched. The weight of this V-8 gives stability driver such a sense of stability
Best Ever
This beautiful M550 responses when you wish is reliable in 3 1/2 years has never given me a problem. The custom paint that I had put on makes his truly and beautiful car to admire. You should know that I’ve had six five series BMWs in the last 30 years and this is the first one I’ve held for longer than two years. One of them picked up in Germany and drove on the autobahn. The rest were just normal every day drive to work cars. This is the same one, but it’s a classic gorgeous BMW, when it starts to give me trouble, I will have difficulty departing with it.

Great choice!
I’m 80 years old and traded in 21 M5 comp for 23 530e x drive demo. M5 was awesome but got to be too much for me. I’m retired so most trips are fully electric which results in little or no gas usage. I got a loaded car with M sport , executive and other options. MSRP was around $76,000. I’m enjoying passing gas stations and I have plenty of power for my needs.

GAS & BATTERY GUZZLER
My local BMW dealership let me use this car as a loaner while mine was being serviced. I was excited to drive a hybrid to test out the electric and gas options. I can tell you that after driving this car for a week I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I filled it up with gas and not even a day later I was back in E with minimal driving. I then charged the battery up overnight to 100% and decided to drive to work (on full electric) which is 10 miles away and by the time I got to work the battery was on 0%!!!! It said I could drive about 16 miles on a full battery but that did not prove to be true. I was excited to return this car to the dealer because it was eating up my money getting gas every two days and charging the battery using a little more electricity than normal at home.

BMW 540i xDrive is Still the Perfect Car
For a mid-size luxury sedan, it's hard to imagine a better all around sport sedan. It does everything great; great handling, great motor, great mpg, great reliability, great looks and feels like the sweet spot for the price of the 5 series ultimate driving machine.
